X-Men vs Honor Guard
At Elder Shadow's command, the honor guard threw themselves forward as the Ritual of Transformation began and the crowds pulled back. As light poured down from the cavern's ceiling onto the altar where Chris lay, each of the guard members chose an opponent.

If Lucas is aware of the danger he's in, it doesn't show. He remains calm and collected and almost totally still, trusting in the X-Men as he extends his perceptions into the spirit realm.

"Earth Mother, Sky Father, these people have lost their way. They meet peace with violence, they meet calm with hatred. They claim to follow the natural path, but I think they have lost your path. They kill when they do not hunger. And they seek to force one of your blessed daughters to be something she does not will herself to be. I am your servant and child, and beg of you, please tell me how this may be undone, that they may feel how steady is the ground beneath their feet, unchanging. That they may see your light away from the fanaticism blinding their eyes. How may I undo this unholy rite?"

At the same time, with his mutant powers, he's reaching for Chris' mind to make sure she's alright, and so he can help her fight whatever changes they're trying to work upon her.

The light from the sky intensifies, and a pulse streaks down to meet Chris' unconscious body. She lets out a feral scream, eyes still closed, as her body shifts into her catgirl form, her back arching as the energies seem to intensify.

Those humans, even mutants, here so close to the ritual may feel the more primal parts of their mind intensifying a bit.

Inside Chris' mind, images of herself swirl back and forth, her form twisting between human and animal and every stage in-between. Voices whisper, urging her to welcome humanity into a new world, but there seems to be something blocking it from going further.

Lucas manifests inside her mind, working on interfering with the ritual, but also using his powers directly.

The dream-Lucas reaches into the painful mix, and draws a naked Chris out from the twisted mass, pulling her aside to watch. "That is the physical world, your form is ever-changing, but your mind is your own. You must re-claim it, remember not only who you are - but that who you become is your choice, and yours alone."
