The trail eventually led the Avengers, Future Foundation and the Defenders to the other dimensional realm that served as the home of the Greek gods. They traveled to a few realms that were home to other gods only to find them destroyed and in ruins. Olympus wasn't in ruins, but it was under attack. Battle raged all around and the skies thundered and were lit up by lightning bolts.

In England near Glastonbury Tor a portal opened up and a large demonic red creature emerged. The Red Lord emerged from Otherworld and had been unleashed upon the mortal world. Chaos and destruction followed in his path.

Gbadu and her followers gathered outside a small unknown temple in the desert near the ancient site of Akkaba. Inside one of the ancient temples the mutant known as En Sabah Nur lay in a state of suspended animation. Today they were here to awaken Apocalypse and unleash him on the world.

Ophois unleashed the Egyptian goddess Sakhmet on the city of Budapest. The goddess' blood lust was insatiable and she tore through the city leaving a sea of blood behind her. Anyone that got in her way was cut down and the blood flowed freely.

A blizzard covered northern Canada in white, but it wasn't the only thing causing problems. Alpha Flight was correct when they mentioned that the Great Beasts were in fact more than one and usually showed up at the same time.

Tanaraq left a path of destruction in his wake as he made his way toward the more populous areas.

Not too far from Taranaq, Kolomaq left a similar path of destruction in his wake.

They'd done their scouting. They've put up all the defenses they could, and put themselves in a position to attack. Buck has reviewed what they have on hand, and the situations exploding around them.

"Alright, folks, thank you for your patience. I know its been a tense situation waiting and doing patrol work... but I think we've identified some key points in the enemy strategy. We're still going to have to be careful. We're dealing with major influences here, but...

Alpha Flight... and their current guests, should be obvious. There's every sign that more of the Great Beasts will be awoken... that's a top priority situation.

X-Men... and the Genoshans - in following up the uprisings earlier, we've identified a 'Cult of Apocalypse', who took the whole massive fight before as a sign its time for En Sabbah Nur's awakening. We've located some of their likely strike points, your leadership has marked maps.


Champions and Thunderbolts, we've located a massive danger in the Red Lord. Its been determined that it will likely take both teams to deal with it.

Nightstalkers and Big Hero 6, we have a second target of the same type, Sakhmet. You two are on that.

SHIELD will be picking up on all of the general monitoring, crowd safety and control, and other work we've been doing in the lead up to this.

Once the Champions returned to their headquarters and destroyed the Quantum Mirror returning all the heroes to normal. Once that was done they called a meeting of the superhero teams. Irina transported the Champions to the Avengers Mansion and volunteered to provide transportation for the other teams.

Slowly news of the theft of the Quantum Mirror reached Akantha and she knew that it could be behind the erratic behavior of some of the world's super heroes. She booked a flight and then she was on the plane to New Orleans to visit the Champions.

Ophois was quite pleased how things were going. His distractions were doing their job quite well and keeping the so called heroes of this world occupied. With all of the heroes busy, Ophois put his next few steps into motion.

His first action was to prod a certain Egyptian goddess and get her on a killing spree.

His second stop was in Otherworld. He carefully avoided those temperamental Celts, they were almost as bad as the Asgardians, and moved to unleash the Red Lorn upon the world.

One great beast had already been unleashed, but there were more just waiting to be freed. He woke up two more. That should keep some of the heroes occupied.

One of his fellow circle members was taking care of resurrecting En Sabah Nur.

His final task brought him to the Japanese Island of the Dead. Mikaboshi was an important member of his strike team that will bring down the other pantheons.

It was a day full of meetings and scheduled phone calls. As always. Anya looked at the clock and had twenty minutes before her next meeting. Just enough time to head down to the cafeteria and grab something to eat. She was starving and needed some caffeine. She had too much blood in her caffeine stream. She hated it when that happened.

She stood up and left the office heading for the cafeteria.

Eir Einmyriasdottir waited until the middle of the night and almost everyone was asleep or elsewhere. She crawled out of bed and quickly dressed. In multiple layers. The winds were bitter cold and the snow was piling up. It was a winter like she had never seen in her life. The last item she put on after her fur lined boots was a fur lined cloak.

She walked over to the door and opened it a crack. The hallway was silent and she didn't hear or see anyone. She opened the door wider and darted across the hall to her sister's room. The door opened silently and she slipped into the room making sure to close the door behind her.

"Astrid," she said as she gently shook her sister awake.

Charles Xavier, head of the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning and mentor of the X-Men, had been busy in the recent days. Together with an old friend, Erik Lehnsherr, the two of them pushed the anti-human groups into action. Attacks on humans started happening all around New York City.

In Times Square the MLF appeared and started attacking the sea of people in the "Crossroads of the World". They also targeted the nearby Police and fire stations to hinder efforts to control the chaos they were creating.

Down on Wall Street the Brotherhood started attacking the bankers and investment brokers.

Leading the attacks on humans were Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr.

Mutants attacking humans prompted responses from anti-mutant groups such as the Friends of Humanity, the Church of Purity and other pro-human groups.

The streets of New York quickly became a battleground between humans and mutants.

Captain America, symbol of freedom and hero, had long fought terrorists such as Hydra, AIM and such groups as the Skeleton Crew. Today it was different. Today Captain America led a small group of Hydra soldiers into a missile silo in the mid-west. They quickly overcame the security forces stationed there and reached the control room. It wasn't long before the Hydra agents hacked into the computers and started the launch sequence. In a few moments the missile would launch and strike targets in Russia. The retaliation strikes from Russia would take care of targets in the United States.

It wasn't the only damage done by the symbol of America. He gave the Skeleton Crew and other hydra teams the blueprints and locations of other missile silos across the United States. They easily broke into the bases and started the launch sequences.

The world was on the brink of World War III and no one knew it.

K'un-L'un, mystic city inhabited by the H'ylthri, was in a separate dimension and was only reached by magical means. Today Danny Rand, the Iron Fist, was trying to bring K'un-L'un into the real world and he was succeeding. The fabled city was entering the normal world and the ground shook. Shockwaves moved through the ground and spread out over most of Asia.

The tremors and the shaking of the ground disturbed the sleep of two powerful beasts. Fin Fang Foom and Godzilla were now waking.

The barrier between dimensions was usually strong, but there were times when that barrier could be weakened. Either by time or by direct intervention. The barriers to the dimension where the Great Beasts of the North had been banished were weakened.

The first of the Great Beasts to escape the dimensional prison was Tundra.

In central Canada Tundra started ripping up the Earth and destroying everything in its path.

Dr. Stephen Strange, Sorcerer Supreme of Earth, hovered over Seattle in his astral projection form. Earlier, he'd seeded the city with very special Darkhold invitations, directed to those who would be easiest to turn to his will. There would be no exchange of innermost desire for a soul-destroying payment. Those who accepted would be his to twist and he intended to twist every drop of humanity from them to use in his spells to open the doorways for demons to enter the world.

The first screams were sweet. The next were savored.

Monsters were alive and devouring Seattle.

Night settled over New York and the Baxter Building at Four Freedoms Plaza was quiet.


Or so it seemed.


In the lab of Reed Richards all was not quiet and something BIG was about to happen.

Heimdall stood his vigilant watch at Bifrost, surveying anything that could be of danger to Asgard.

"What's this?" He saw a figure approaching something of great importance. He looked harder until he could identify the man. It was one of the Ennead, Seth's wretched offspring! What was he..? "No! I must tell Lord Thor immediately!"

However, before Heimdall could even move, a massive, cloaked figure suddenly appeared in front of him.

"Your eyes must remain shut, guardian."

Heimdall went to strike but was suddenly overcome by a blast of cosmic power. Heimdall fell, his skin burning. "Must..stop.." but the pain was too much for the warrior, and Heimdall fell into unconsciousness.

Seven targets in New York. Check.

Two targets in Canada. Check.

Now to Genosha for the last target.

What fools these mortals be to think they could keep things away from gods. Ophois had been searching long for a specific object and now he had found it. He laughed at the thought of these so called immortals thinking they could keep such wonderful objects hidden away and safe. Maybe they could keep them away from the mortals, but Ophois was a god and nothing was out of his reach.

Ophois walked into the vault near Agra, India, as if there weren't any security measures in place. It had only taken a few moments to locate the Quantum Mirror, though he had lingered a bit to inspect some other artifacts and grab a few that caught his eye.

Now it was time to put his plans into action.

His first stop was Asgard.
