To say that everyone was working hard was a huge understatement. It was as if the holidays didn't even exist, and if it hadn't been for the merry decorations and the Christmas music all over the radio, Jude was sure that he'd never know that Christmas was on it's way. Everyone was on edge and running on empty. They had all expected to have not only Reagan back by now, but all of the missing boys. It was hard for just about everyone to even look at Liam, and even though the man was putting up a wall, Jude knew better.

He hadn't had much time to process what had happened between he and Beckett. They'd been spending as much free time as they could together, but free time was scarce because everyone was pushing themselves so hard. And by the way that Micah and Wyatt were looking at one another, something had happened between them as well. It boggled Jude's mind because not only was there something going on with he and Beckett, Wyatt and Micah, but something was up with Clark and Ally too because Ally had told him. Jude was just waiting for Mick to come up and say that she was hooking up with Emma, and he smiled tiredly as he thought about it. He was staring blankly at his computer screen, waiting for some information to come up about the man that the van was registered to, the man that Vegas had spotted.

[http://www.scribbld.net/community/politico/8605.html Is up about what Chancellor and Liam discovered about the car. I'll pick up from there a little!]

"A. Banks," Liam said as he came through the door to Jude's office. "I need every A. Banks in Virginia. The registered owner to the vehicle, Isaac Banks, is dead, but the office manager in his building recognized the sketch of the man Vegas described. It's his son and they had a family home somewhere in Virgina." Liam was filled with purpose, determination. His movements were jerky though, angry at something as he sat down next to Jude, hovering over his work. It had been the conversation he and Chancellor had had in the car on the way back. He didn't think it was fair, but he supposed he didn't have much right to criticize Chancellor after all he'd put him through.

As soon as Wyatt saw Liam and Chancellor get back, he sat up in his chair. He'd been working the profile, still trying to bring up anything he might have missed. But the way Liam was walking, Wyatt knew he had something big. Glancing at Micah he raised his eyebrows. "I know that posture. He's really close." It made him nervous because he didn't know what to do to help. After a month of trying to crack the case, normally the BAU would have stopped, moved on to another case that might have been more solveable. But that couldn't happen here because that would mean Liam would have to give up on Reagan. It had left Wyatt feeling helpless.

Jude sat up straight as soon as Liam came through the door, and he rubbed a hand over his face before he straightened his glasses out and went straight to work. His fingers flew across the keys with ferocity, and if Liam hadn't been able to see his face, he wouldn't have known that Jude was dead exhausted.

"Based on the profile, I'll look into males between the age of 30-40 with A names, and the last name Banks," Jude said as he worked. "Is there anything else I can narrow this down with? I can use the description the Knite kid gave me, but I don't know how much that will help..."

Micah lifted his gaze up from the stack of papers on his desk. He was doing the same thing as Wyatt was, though at the moment he was sort of just staring at the words on the pages and getting nothing.

"Really close to what?" Micah asked, "Close to cracking this or close to cracking up?"

It kind of cracks me up that Liam is played by Jude Law and is talking to Jude.

"Birth records. His father's name is Isaac Banks. We can cross reference any addresses we might get with Aldous' maps." He never referred to Ally as 'Ally,' always by his given name. "He's triangulated a few possible areas. But I'd prefer if you started with a wide search, just to make sure we've covered everything." He didn't usually like to hover when other people were working, but at this point he had every intention of looking over Jude's shoulder. He wasn't doing it in a 'boss' sort of way, but in a desperate for answers sort of way.

"Well, both. But originally I meant that he's close to finding the answer," Wyatt sat up straighter as if that would help him be able to see into Jude's office. It did not, of course. "He's got something, a clue or something. This is the longest we've ever spent on a case. The maximum was a couple weeks. Statistically, at this point, it's unlikely that the unsub will be found by our efforts. Profiling is generally a quick science that either works to solve a case or doesn't. Once the profile is created, sometimes it just has to sit until someone in the field recognizes it, but that isn't usually our job."

"Right," Jude mumbled as he furrowed his brow. If he wasn't so exhausted, he would have thought of that on his own, and he felt a little sheepish but he was too tired to care. "Here's some of his new maps," Jude added as he pushed them over to Liam before he kept on typing. "He added the clinics and vet clinics that were broken into and had phenobarbital missing," he added quietly. There were only a handful throughout Virginia, scattered throughout smaller towns that were just hours apart over the past five years.

Micah smiled faintly at Wyatt as the younger man rambled on, and he tapped the tip of Wyatt's foot with his own before it settled back down and he lowered his gaze to the papers. "Do you think we're gonna find this man? And these men?" he asked after a moment, "And... Reagan?"

"I was starting to think that maybe we wouldn't, even with Agent Connelly's help." Wyatt had faith, but he was beginning to lose hope. Now, however, he was starting to think that the patience had paid off with Liam in there hovering anxiously over Jude. Wyatt glanced over at Chancellor. "They got in a fight," he noted. "Look at the way Connelly's shoulders are drawn. Not that you needed me to point that out, but it's definitely there." Wyatt had always been curious about those two, knowing they'd had a relationship. Actually, it was one of the things that comforted him about his own growing relationship with Micah. But at the same time, it made him even more nervous about it because it hadn't worked out between the two of them.

Micah had definitely noticed the tension in both men, and while everyone was on edge and stressed, he'd easily picked up on the difference this time. This was more than just stress. He glanced from Chancellor to Wyatt before he plucked up the files from his desk and pushed away from it with his feet. The chair rolled easily from his desk and around over to Wyatt's, and he looked down at the file about Parker in his lap.

"Did they have something?" he asked quietly.

Wyatt felt his heart flutter in his chest. He thought that reaction peculiar, though he supposed it might be the same as anyone with a crush when said crush did something slick. Everything about Micah was graceful and casual and just plain cool. Before now, Wyatt had never really had a concept of that kind of person, and he certainly didn't know enough to actually want someone like that. But Micah struck a chord in him that he couldn't resist.

Quickly picking back up, he nodded. "For awhile. Agent Montgomery was different back then. He was still an excellent team leader but there were--some problems sometimes. He was more difficult to please, flew off the handle when we made mistakes. It was difficult to keep up with him and what his demands would be that day." When Liam had been drinking, he'd been a tyrant. Extremely well controlled, but it was clear that he had a problem.

It was a little bit difficult to imagine Liam with someone with such a strong personality. Liam had one of his own, so to think of him with Chancellor was a little mind boggling. He imagined that they probably challenged eachother in many ways, and it made him wonder what Reagan was like.

"I see," he said softly. He noticed that Liam never indulged in the smallest bits of alcohol, not that he would at work - but even when they were out of town on a case and out to dinner, ready to turn in for the night. He suspected that was what Wyatt was hinting at. "If the unsub watched Reagan for two years, he probably watched each victim for at least a year before he took them. Or six months. He's probably read Parker Reigh's book a hundred times."

"He probably already has the next victim picked out. For people like him, watching the victim from afar is the same as building a real relationship with them. For him it builds the same pathways in the brain. I think it's sad that he probably really believes they love him and that he loves them. It gets me thinking about what love really is. Just a chemical reaction in the brain. It's scary." He didn't mean to turn so suddenly somber.

The computer filed through lists and lists of names. Banks was an unfortunately common last name, but there were a few Isaac Banks records that came up with a few different locations. Liam pulled Ally's maps towards him and scanned them for matches.

"I think love is more than just that," Micah replied as he sifted through the papers in his lap. "At least, real love is," he added as he glanced up at Wyatt with a faint smile before he returned his attention back down to his work.

Jude pushed back the urge to yawn as he clicked through name after name, bringing up birth records with the name Isaac Banks as the afther for A names.

"I have one," he said after a moment. "An Adam Isaac Banks," he said as he started to type again. "I'll bring up this guys driver's license, see if it matches the sketch that Vegas Knite did with the sketch artist."

"It matches the maps, close to the thefts of the drug," Liam said, not daring to hope that this might be the one. "With the current profile, it's very likely that the unsub will be keeping the victims close to him. In a barn, an outbuilding, a basement, maybe even in a back section of the house." When the driver's license photo came up on the screen, Liam stopped talking and stared. That was him. The sketch matched hauntingly well and Liam grit his teeth. "Thank you, Jude," he said quickly and stood up to go back out into the office.

When Liam burst from the door, Wyatt sat up straight and felt his expectations soar. Liam gave a piece of paper to Chancellor with the address. "Everyone in the cars, we'll get a search warrant on the way. We'e got a possible address for the unsub."

As soon as Liam left hi office, Jude put his head down against the desk. He was absolutely exhausted, and he just wanted these men found, especially Reagan for Liam.

When Liam came out of the office and handed the address to Chancellor, Mick got to her feet and tugged on he coat along with everyone else. A break, finally they had something to go on.

"I'll go with you and Chance," she said, sensing the tension between them and figuring a buffer might be needed.

Liam frowned, disliking the fact that he worked with a bunch of profilers who could read his gestures and body language so well. He hated when the tension was so easy to read. He headed out to the car, intent on driving. Mick could work on the technicalities of getting into the house for a search.

Wyatt headed out in a different car with Micah and Beckett.

Everything about this situation was stressing Chancellor out. They'd been working so hard and on no sleep. Though he hated to admit it, he was getting too old for this job, no matter how badly he wanted to stick with it. Everyone was frantic inside of Jude's office but he just stood in the doorway, his shoulders hunched and arms folded over his chest. The conversation he'd had in the car with Liam had left him feeling drained. Not because he still had feelings for Liam. Not the kind of feelings he would bother doing anything at all with. It was that he still was a little bitter over the way things had ended. Still jealous over the fact that Liam was happy with Reagan and he'd had to bury his own husband. When he first came back to the BAU after his spouse had died he'd come back with just the job to hold onto. The job and the thought that maybe it would be different this time around. But being face to face with Liam's happiness with Reagan had left him uncertain again, something he hated being. So he'd left. And he'd been on the verge of losing it when they called him back. Now he didn't know where he stood. Just tired and pissed off and mostly wanting this case to be over so he could go back to his hotel to sleep. Being so jaded would have scared him years ago but now he had settled into it easily enough.

When they discovered the address he pushed away from the door and followed Mick and Liam down to the car. He never drove, not ever, and with Liam there he knew that Mick wouldn't put up a fuss about it either. He just slid into the front seat and put on his seatbelt. They were finishing this today and then maybe he'd figure out what to do from there.

Mick watched as everyone split up, and she slipped past Emma to make sure that she kept up with Liam and Chancellor. She had a lot of respect for both men, especially Chancellor. She'd learned so much from the man, and she felt like she might never stop learning if she followed the man around enough.

She slipped into the backseat, leaving Liam to drive and Chancellor the passanger seat. She rubbed het hands over her face and tipped her head back with a hard swallow. She was excited, and tense. It was almost surreal to think they were even close.

The drive was not so far away, and it disturbed Liam how close Reagan may have been this whole time. He was trying not to get his hopes up, unable to fathom what kind of disappointment he would face if this address wasn't the location of the victims. He thought about the families of the other men that he'd met, focusing on them to give him courage. Fear seeped into his heart as he imagined all sorts of bad things that may be the case at this man's house. What if they'd been wrong? What if he'd been killing them and keeping them this whole time rather than holding them alive. His stomach churned, but his mental fortitude allowed him to pull back those thoughts and focus on the case, separate himself emotionally as best he could because there was work to be done now, possibly dangerous work.

As they drove, Liam worked out a plan of attack and directed Mick to call the other car to convey how this was going to go down. He didn't want to rush it, but he also didn't want to lose anymore time.

Chancellor was silent the duration of the ride. There was a large part of him that thought if the men were dead they were going to lose Liam on the spot. The best he'd be able to do would be to try and help him pick up all the little pieces that broke apart an fell away if Reagan was really dead and to try to put him back together again. But he knew he'd lose Liam to the bottle and that the team would be without their leader. For now Liam was in charge but he could tell that he was riding on a thin string of hope, one that likely would break when he needed it most.

"where do you want me when we get there?" he asked.

Mick was busy on the phone with Jude, who'd conferenced her in with the others. Once she heard Emma's voice and Micah's on the other end, she gave them Liam's instructions and then hungup. She felt anxious, hoping that they really were close this time. All she wanted was to find Reagan and the other men alive, and like Chancellor, she wasn't sure if Liam could handle it if Reagan wasn't there. She knew for certain that he wouldn't be able to handle it if his husband was dead, and there was a bit of doubt that she couldn't help but feel in the back of her mind that maybe they were all dead.

"And me?" she asked quietly.

"You're both going through the front with me. The rest cover the back." Three people was a good number. Intimidating, but not so much so that someone might think something was up. Pulling down the long driveway, Liam couldn't even be sure that there was a house out here. When the road ended, he couldn't see the house yet and he urged the others to get out of the car. Jude had gotten satellite images of the area, and there was indeed a house in the middle of those woods but they'd have to walk to get to it. Liam directed the others to go around the other way, while the three of them approached from what they could consider the front.

The fact that this house was so difficult to get to got Liam's hopes up. It would be the perfect place to keep people captive. If they escaped, they'd be lost for days. The hike in was tiring, but when he saw the house crest over the horizon, Liam's stamina was fortified. He couldn't see Emma, Wyatt, and Micah, but he was certain they were in the proper position. He knocked on the door and it swung open. "Hello?" he called out. "This is the FBI. We'd like to ask you some questions."

The house was empty, and Vegas's encounter had been enough to get them a warrant to search the house and property.

Footsteps from upstairs always sent a little chill down Murphy's spine and overwhelmed him with emotions. Fear that when Adam came downstairs he would pick him to take upstairs for the night. Jealously that he would pick anyone else. That made him almost feel sick. Disgusted with himself that he would even care that Adam wanted someone else. He should have been grateful but he wasn't. Murph had long since resigned himself to this life. But the first set of footsteps were joined by another and he sat up, straining to hear anything else. And then another and he was up off the bed and pressed up against the chain link fence. The voice that followed was muffled but unfamiliar and Murphy didn't even hesitate to call back.

"Hello!" He yelled as loud as his lungs would allow. "Down here! We're down here!" He knew he would wake the others but he didn't care. "Help us! We're in the basement!"

Micah came in through the back with Wyatt and Emma in tow, weapons drawn and ready. He could hear the others from the front as he went through the kitchen.

"FBI, Adam Banks, we'd like to speak with you," he called out.

Nothing in the kitchen looked out of the ordinary. The door that led down to the basement looked like nothing more than a pantry door next to the fridge.

"We're clear this way," Micah told Liam and Chancellor as he made his way into the hall, meeting up with the two men.

"The bedroom's clear," Emma said with a frown. "Guest bath and master bath, too. Looks like only man has been living here."

The living room and dining room were clear, too, and Mick frowned. Had he gotten away? Moved the men and fled?"

When Elijah and Reagan heard Murphy, they both wokeup, though it was Reagan who got to his feet first. Adam had done a pretty decent job of soundproofing the basement, and though he could hear footsteps above them and very faint voices, he wasn't sure if they could hear them. He was closest to the door that led up into the kitchen, Murphy was the farthest. He started to make noise, too.

"Lets look around, there has to be something," Micah said, and he was trying his best not to get frustrated.

Parker didn't think it was anything to get excited over at first. But as he considered the extra footsteps he was certain that it wasn't time for a new victim. "It's soundproof," he said with worry. The idea of being found was overwhelming and it scared him how much he wanted it. "But maybe if we bang on the ceiling...but we're mostly under the ground and not the house." he looked around for something long and solid.

Liam felt his body tense. There was something in the house that they weren't finding and it was making Liam go crazy. "We need to check the land around here." He ordered, voice revealing how amped he was.

There was no one in the house. So the best thing that Chancellor thought he could do was look through his stuff. He put his gun away and started looking through his kitchen. He riffled through the mail on the table, looking through the fridge and he opened what he thought was the pantry but it wasn't. There was a dark stairwell and he heard yelling from downstairs. His gun came back out. "Liam! Mick!" He yelled out and then started down the stairs. He clicked on his flashlight and when he got to the bottom of the steps he was shocked at the sight of the basement. Cages lining the walls, the boys standing pressed against the cages. "Reagan!" he went right to him, trying to stay calm but he was so relieved.

Mick made her way back down to the bedroom and she frowned when she didn't see anything out of the ordinary. She headed back down the hall, towards the living room, and passed Liam in the guest bath along the way.

"Anything?" she asked while she glanced down the hall to see Micah and Wyatt going through Adam's desk. Emma was standing beside the piano.

When she heard Chancellor's voice, she glanced at Liam with hopeful eyes before she headed for the kitchen. The stairwell was a surprise, and she pulled out her gun to follow Chancellor down.

Reagan was almost afraid that they wouldn't be found. Maybe he was wrong, maybe Adam would win, but the moment the door opened and light from the kitchen followed down the dark stairwell he breathed a sigh of relief. The second Chancellor's face came into view, his throat felt thick, and he wanted to cry but he held it in.

"I'm okay," he assured Chancellor, though he hadn't been on his best behavior, and Adam hadn't been kind to him on some of those occassions. He was sporting a bruised jaw and busted lip at the moment.

"Who's here?!" Elijah called out as he gripped the wiring of the cell he was in. "Shay?"

Liam had grabbed the ring out of the medicine cabinet moments before Mick asked that question. He didn't even know how to respond because his words were all wrapped up in the sudden wave of illness that had washed over him. Holding his husband's ring between his fingers, his first thought was that Adam had killed him and this was a trophy. Even if it didn't match the profile, that was Liam's dark imagination, fortified by all of the horrible things he knew people were capable of. But when Chancellor's voice rang out, he didn't have to think anymore; his body sprang into action and he followed the sound of it.

When he made it to the bottom of the stairs and saw the cages, fucking cages, he nearly lost it. But the sight of Reagan behind the chain link fence made a choked sound of relief come out of him. "Where is he, Reagan? Where? Tell me everything. We have to find him. I have to find him." And make him pay for what he'd done, or at the very least lock him away forever so that he couldn't get to Reagan again. "Reagan," he said, breaking down piece by piece as he clutched at the fence, wanting desperately to climb through it.

Shay couldn't believe what was happening, even if he'd hoped and stayed optimistic. It was crazy. Surreal. "It's--it's the fucking cops. It's the fucking cops!" He couldn't believe what he was saying, but the guns and the attitude, and--it was the fucking authorities!

Liam turned to Chancellor. "We have to get them out of here. But we have to find Adam Banks." He was a man possessed.

"I'm all right," Reagan assured Liam, managing to slip his fingers through the fence enough to touch Liam's. "I don't kno where he is. He probably won't be coming back, he's very smart," he added as he leaned his forehead against the fence. "I knew you'd find us." He didn't say me, but us. All of them.

Elijah wanted to cry. He swallowed hard as he felt tears start to slip down his cheeks, and when he heard Chancellor's voice he went quiet.

"I can tell you the clicks," he said softly. "I always listen." In this place, hearing was about all he had most of the time. "He has a different combo for all of us."

Parker had been silent through all of this, sitting on the edge of his bed because he was too scared to stand up. He knew his knees wouldn't be able to hold him up right now. Staring at Murphy, he wanted to reach out to him and tell him not to leave the cage; the world was a scary place. He was also afraid that the boy's asthma would act up with all of the excitement. Tearing his eyes away from the boy, he looked over at Reagan and Liam, the way they were clutching for each other on either side of the fence.

Chancellor's voice had a way of snapping Liam back into reality. It gave him an anchor and he looked in at Reagan. "What if you're not safe until we find him? I should have been home with you. I should have known. I'm sorry."

Murphy was pressed against the cage but his chest started to feel so heavy. He moved back to the bed and he looked around for his inhalers. He grabbed one and shook it out but it was empty so he tossed it down and looked for another one. He gave up after a minute and sat down on the bed. It was all Liam could do not to demand that Reagan be let out first. But of course, he knew the others had been there longer and were probably in worse shape. He stared at his lover, taking a mental inventory of every injury he could see.

Wyatt disappeared upstairs for a few minutes and then came back down. "The paramedics are on their way. I found some chili peppers." He moved to Murphy's cell and passed one through. "Eat this. The spice stimulates fluids and dilutes the mucus. Also, capsaicin in the peppers is an anti-inflammatory. Crunch it up really well. Don't rub your eyes afterward."

"I can't." Murphy shook his head as he pulled his knees up. "I can't. If I eat it he'll know. He'll get mad. Just leave me here. Don't make me go." If he left he'd lose Adam and he'd lose Parker, but he knew with a chance to escape that Parker would never stay. In the real world they would be nothing to each other and he was starting to panic.

Chancellor moved with Elijah to the cage door and he spun the lock and then listened for the boy to tell him when to stop. They were going to have to get him out quick.

"He's not gonna know, Murphy, you're safe now. You all are," Mick told the boy as she went to look at the boy through the cage. "Vegas really wants to see you, he's never given up on you. He's been waiting this whole time. Seth, too. They both really want to see you, they miss you, all right? Just eat the pepper, it'll help, and we'll get you back to your family safe and sound. All of you, and you're not going to be alone."

Elijah told Chancellor when to stop, and when the cage opened up he went inside blindly to reach out for Murphy. He could tell that the boy was panicking, and a part of him understood why. Unlike Murphy, he had no family he wanted to see or missed. These boys were his family, even Adam in a sick way.

"Murphy, you have to come," he said softly once he grasped a hold of the boy's shirt. "I don't have anyone else out there but you guys."

When Parker saw a trait in another person that he didn't like in himself, he was prone to be angry with it. It was a lot safer to rage against someone else than it was to evaluate his own issues. "Murphy. Stop it." He said sharply. "Adam's not coming back--not now. We're on our own now and we have to leave. We have to go back to our lives." He started to pace, getting agitated. Shay didn't like the feel of the moment. Everything was supposed to be fixed once they were rescued. This was supposed to be joyous. He rubbed his hands over his face and leaned against the chain link.

"Come on, get these fucking cages open, please? Please just get us out of here." Shay's voice trembled once with the sudden fear that something would go wrong and Elijah would be set free and he would remain in here. "Please."

Being snapped at by Parker just kicked something off inside of Murphy. His face went slack and he tried to nudge Elijah back away from him. He took the pepper from Wyatt and started to eat it, just really taking his time chewing it because he said it needed to be crushed up. He was still in panic mode inside but on the exterior he was calming down.

Chancellor waited just a moment before taking Elijah by the hand to lead him out of the cage. He went to Reagan's cage next. Then Parker's, then Shay's. He got them each open and moved straight to the next so no one was stuck longer than they had to be. "Let's get everyone upstairs and out of here." So they were ready when he paramedic came.

Elijah let go of Murphy when the boy quieted down, and he let Chancellor lead him down the line. Once everyone was out, he relaxed and he reached out to try and find where Shay was standing.

"Shay," he called out nervously.

Reagan launched himself at Liam and pressed his face against the older man's shoulder as he held onto him. He blinked rapidly, and though he wanted to cry he somehow kept himself together. He closed his eyes and swallowed hard.

"I really missed you," he said softly.

Elijah didn't have to wait long until Shay was hugging him. He was foolish enough to believe that everything would be perfect now. He was too overjoyed to think that the aftermath might be difficult to get through too. For now, at least, he was on cloud nine and as long as he had Elijah, he was pretty sure things would stay good. He hugged him so tightly he nearly squeezed the life out of him.

Even though Parker had snapped at Murphy, he went right over to him and took his hand. "Come on," he said softly. "It'll be all right." He didn't plan on just abandoning him, knowing that he would have a hard time. Something about Murphy had attached itself to Adam and Parker could see it. He feared for the boy more than he feared for the others.

Liam couldn't hold himself together as well as Reagan had. He tried, but failed. It was terrifying to think that his team would see him cry, even a little, but as soon as he made contact with Reagan, he let out the smallest of whimpers and hid his face in the man's neck, the heat of tears falling against Reagan's skin. He managed to collect himself to get back upstairs.
