Who: Tracey Davis and Theodore Nott
What: Tracey just loves her sweets!
Where: Slytherin Common Room
When: Late Tuesday Night.
Rating: TBA
Status: Incomplete

Although the fire in the Slytherin Common Room crackled away merrily, the room was empty except for Tracey Davis. She sat curled up on one of the large black leather chairs, her head engrossed in the journal that lay in her lap. Above Tracey, the wind was lashing against the walls of the castle and rain was pouring down. Screwing up her nose; Tracey picked a Fizzing Whizzbee out of the enormous package next to her and popped it into her mouth. What would I ever do without Hogsmeade weekends; she thought fondly. With an extra 20 packets of Fizzing Whizzbees safely hidden in her trunk, she was sure her secret addiction would be sufficiently fed for sometime.

Relishing the sweet flavour, the dark haired 7th year continued reading. Picking up her quill and smirking, she began to write a rather nasty comment to a obnoxious 4th year Hufflepuff; when she heard a noise behind her. Tracey turned her head towards the noise, but all she could see was the ink black dark. Standing up, the journal fell to the floor with a soft thud. Tracey bit her lip and pulled her long dark brown hair to one side and quietly tip-toed the back of the Common Room. The dungeon floor was cold underneath her bare feet, but fuelled by curiosity, she continued towards the sound..

Tracey pursed her lips together. “You KNOW what I meant Theodore.” She exclaimed exasperatedly. She turned to look at the young man, and rested her head on the armrest, atop of her arms. Tracey’s dark brown eyes followed every move Theodore made and a small smile remained on her lips. “I never really though that you would suffer from insomnia,” she said rather surprised. “You seem far to refined to suffer from sleep loss..” There was a hint of mockery in her voice, although Tracey had meant it as a compliment. Ever since they were younger, she had always been marvelled at how Theodore was ever so composed and classy, no matter the situation.

When Theodore refused her offer of sweets, Tracey happily took them back and placed them beside her. Laughing at his comment, she picked up the journal that was lying on the floor next to her and placed it in her lap. “I daresay Daphne and Pansy aren’t capable of things as dire as that situation Theodore darling.” She ran her hand through her hair as the fire reflected in her eyes, making them seem to twinkle. “It is a rather amusing thought though.” Tracey looked at Theo incredulously as he produced the packet of bloodpops. “You like bloodpops?” She asked in disbelief as she watched him suck the bloodpop so that his lips turned a shade of red. “My my, you are full of surprises.” Glancing at the journal in her lap she picked it up and displayed it to Theo. “Just my journal. Unfortunately all my credible reading material has somehow disappeared. I’m somehow left with idiotic romance novels that I’m sure I never purchased.”

Tracey's mild exasperation was most amusing, though this fascination hardly reflected on Theodore's features. With a curt nod, he answered a simple, "Yes. of course." while he continued to listen to her.

"Really, now..." Theo commented when she had shared her opinions about his insomnia, his lips slightly pouting in thought. "Do the dark circles under my eyes not give me away?" Raising one hand, he pushed his hair back from his features, his eyes averting from her to the fire before them. "I've had difficulty sleeping since I was... five. I was on my way to the Infirmary when I saw you. That was when I decided your company would be drastically more satisfying that a Sleeping Draught."

"Oh, are they?" Theodore challenged. "Daphne and Pansy respectively are capable of great things, horrible things at certain occasions. One should not underestimate them. I've learned this the hard way, I'm afraid.." he narrated, his face looking as if he remembered something particularly horrible, but at the same time he gave out a dismissive air that told that he wouldn't elaborate even if one inquired. His glance drifted back to her when he caught her surprise when she found out his fascination with bloodpops. Another small smile grazed his features as he took the candy in his mouth as a way to confirm her question.

Theo leaned back comfortable on the couch, feeling relaxed for some reason, before taking out the lollipop from his mouth, his lips turning even more red. "The journals are... satisfying for a time, incredibly useful as well if one would take time to considered it, but the magic wears off fairly quickly when you realize you have a book full of other people's nonsense drabbles. Merlin, the idiotic things other people complain about often leave me exasperated and annoyed and there, comes the migraine." He then chanced a look at her at her next words and the smile on his lips grew wider. "Of course. Romance novels. Idiotic. Why would anyone subscribe to such monstrosities?" At this proclamation, he took out his copy of Pride and Prejudice and threw it on the space between them on the couch. "Perhaps that can change your mind." he stated, gaze drifting back on the fire before he quietly, quite contentedly ate is bloodpop.

Surveying the young man upon closer inspection, Tracey found that she did notice the dark circles beneath his steely blue eyes. Tucking a lock of hair behind her ear, Tracey smiled serenly at Theo. "Hmm, I see what you mean," She said, gesturing in the direction of his eyes. "I must say it does add character in a way my love." Winking at Theodore playfully, Tracey picked up another Fizzing Whizzbee and daintily placed it in her mouth. "I've had trouble sleeping for a while now," She added vaugely, her face showing the slightest trace of pain for a split second. "I guess one deals with their issues in different ways."

Tracey concealed a laugh as Theodore voiced his opinion of how one should not underestimate her two best friends. Biting her lip softly, amusement twinkled in her eyes. Although Tracey knew that Daphne or Pansy would ever do anything to seriously harm her, there was no doubt Tracey's mind that the two young women were awfully dangerous if toyed with. "So I see you've felt the fiery wrath of my dear companions.." Tracey said and smiled knowingly at Theodore. She was in a relatively good mood considering the time, and Theodore was proving to be rather alluring company.

Stretching out in a cat-like manner, Tracey lounged lazily on the cool leather couch. Her eyes travelling back to the bloodpop in Theodore's hand, Tracey was still in slight awe that there was so much that she didn't know about her fellow housemate. "I suppose these things are rather amusing, but you are right, the novelty does wear off after sometime." Tracey picked up the journal and flicked through a few pages. "Although it is extremely interesting to see how people of a lower class perceive day to day events." Continuing to flick through the pages of the journal, Tracey was surprised when Theodore placed a copy of Pride and Prejudice between them.

Her lips forming a small pout, Tracey smirked at Theodore. "Ahh, yes, Pride and Prejudice.." She said simply, tracing a finger across down the spine of the clearly well read book. "I daresay that wasn't the sort of mindless romance novel I was talking about.." Tracey looked at Theodore steadily and picked up the book he had placed between them. "I'm rather offended that you'd refer to this as merely a romance Theodore.." Tracey said, raising a perfectly shaped eyebrow at her housemate. "It also illustrates and portrays a society in which a woman’s reputation is of the absolute importance. A woman is expected to behave in certain ways and stepping outside the social expectations makes her completely susceptible to ostracism. And that’s only ONE of the themes this captivating piece of literature covers." Tracey crossed her arms and looked rather pleased with herself. "As you can see Theodore darling, it is SO much more than a romance novel.."

The other's scrutiny of his eyes made Theodore shift slightly in his seat, though this action was a barely noticeable one. His eyes drifted back to her and caught the way she was twirling her hair in her dainty fingers. He was entranced at this for a moment. "Character?" he questioned, shaking his head. "I doubt lone should consider it as such. It's a flaw and cannot called as much else." His lips declined in a small, subtle frown when she told of her problems in sleeping, though he asked nothing more about it, thinking it would have been unnecessary to do so. "Yes. Different ways."

"I have, most unfortunately. One of them, just very recently." Again, the dismissive tone was used. He truly did not wish to indulge with the recent accidents he has had with Daphne, or Pansy for that matter. It was just something... he'd rather forget.

Her opinions about the text he referred left him stunned for moment, then gradually impressed. Never has he come across someone who was so open about their harbored opinions about literature. His eyes twinkled with interest as he spoke. "Have I ever said that the plot line strictly circled around romance? I did not." Theo draped his arm at the back of the couch and veered his torso to slightly face her on the seat. "But it is undeniable that the romance part of the story- one that was the most obvious, and less concealed of the underlining issues- is the definition of true romance." His eyes never left her as he spoke, and there, he took time to note her distinct features. She was quite stunning at this weak light, he noticed, and the fact that she was merely clad in her pajamas was something one wouldn't even notice. "Defying all the odds, sacrificing pride and lineage. Don't you think that's the very essence of romance? Dare I say, even love?" A small smile.

Tracey gave another lazy yawn, and then turned to face Theodore. Slightly amused at the young man’s reaction to her knowledge of Pride and Prejudice, Tracey continued to flick through the book while listening to Theodore’s take on the text. Looking up and nodding her head in agreement, Tracey locked eyes with Theodore and gave him a impressed look. “I totally agree. I couldn’t have explained it in a better way if I tried..” Tracey crossed her legs underneath herself, thoroughly enjoying the unexpected intelligent conversation she had stumbled upon.

Smiling at Theo’s words, Tracey stared directly at him. “Ms. Austen did do a very good job on suggesting that true love is a force separate from society and can conquer even the most difficult of circumstances. ” Shrugging her shoulders, she stroked the book in her lap. “Would you say such a thing exists in real life Theodore darling?” Cocking her head to one side, Tracey gave Theo a questioning gaze. “You know, true love?”

Theo returned the smiles she offered him with a rare smile of his own, the corners of his lips curving upward in the slightest. He and Tracey have always had a sort of quiet understanding of the other- a polite, civil, but warm sort of relationship- but they did not engage in conversations such as the one they were having at this moment much. Theodore noted almost absently that he should attempt to strike up talks like this more often...

"True love." Theo started, his tone reflective. "Of course. In truth, I did not use to think it existed. I suppose the books I have- the stories I have read have... influenced me greatly to have a sudden shift in beliefs. It exists, surely, but I do know that such a thing is very rare, and only a fortunate few have found it and kept it alive. It's something everyone should aspire to find." He watched as Tracey's fingers move against the page of his book. "Anything pure and untainted - as what true love is- can only be a beautiful thing." His eyes then averted to her features. "But anything less that that, mere illusions of love are... ugly."

"Do you believe in it?"

Noting Theo’s small smile, Tracey was surprised but please. Observing the young man, Tracey ran her hand through her silky dark brown hair. Theodore was certainly good looking and had an air of charisma that she was inexplicably drawn too. Although the two were never exactly close; Tracey felt that there was a sort of silent respect between them.

Biting her lip Tracey nodded her head, thoroughly engrossed in the conversation. She had always known that Theo was smart and in truth, it rather intimidated her at times. But here, in the Common Room with the wind and rain howling above them, Tracey hadn’t even felt the slightest bit of intimidation. Upon Theo’s question about love, Tracey thought for a short period of time. “I suppose it can exist..” She said finally after much noted consideration. “But in this day and age, the word love is used far to often.” Pursing her lips together, Tracey sighed. “The dream of true love is something seemingly unconceivable though.” The young girl thought of her parents, the product of an arranged marriage. Sure; they had managed to cope together and were relatively happy, but had they really loved each other? Tracey highly doubted it.

Snapping out of her thoughts, Tracey glanced at Theodore before asking; “Do you believe that those of arranged marriages ever grow to love one another?”

Theodore nodded slowly while Tracey spoke of her beliefs in true love. He realized then how unguarded he was, how carefree he was sitting there quietly feasting on sweets and talking about his perception of true love and romance. It was a refreshing change from his usual guarded self, though of course, if the situation would ever require for him to put his walls back up, he could do it in a second.

Right now, however, he was enjoying his present company and would wish to prolong this conversation as long as it was this interesting. "I agree.: he said with a curt nod. "Love has been used rather laxly by too many that the gravity of the word, its charm, seemed to have lessened significantly. True love in our time is merely a luxury, I'm afraid, one that not all of us get a chance to experience. I find such a concept rather tragic, but it's reality. We can do not a thing about it..."

At the mention of arranged marriages, though, he stiffened; he sat up straighter, his lips forming a hard straight line as his eye started at the table in front of them, unseeing. "Yes. I've seen that it can." he said simply, though couldn't bring himself to elaborate further. Thoughts of his mother entered his mind, and this alone was draining the life out of him. He remembered how much her mother, even though her parents had just been an arranges relationship, that his mother fell in love with his father even though his father barely returned her sentiments. He fell silent, a mask of indifference once again on his features as he looked away from her. "Why do you ask?"

Eyeing Theodore curiously, Tracey noticed how he had seemingly reacted to her comment about arranged marriages. Suspecting that Theodore’s parents were the product of one, she decided not to press the young man for details. “My Mother and Father had an arranged marriage thrust upon them..” Tracey said simply with a blank expression on her face. It was almost impossible to tell what she was thinking. Absently twirling her hair around her index finger again, she continued. “I always knew that Father never loved my Mother..” Thinking back to her childhood, Tracey recalled that she had never once seen her parents share any sort of intimacy towards each other. Never had she seen them in a physical embrace. Not one kiss. Not one hug. Although both her parents had loved her dearly, from a very young age it was clear that Tracey's parents had no such regard for one another.

Tracey shook her head and shrugged. “It scares me that there’s a possibility that someone may go through life without being able to love. Or be loved.” Biting her lip, Tracey surprised with herself. She had never opened up to anyone in this way before.

Theodore was quiet all of a sudden, even slightly distant, as he struggled for something to say. Nothing came to mind, however. It was something he couldn't help; the topic of his deceased parents was never a subject of interest for him. Heck, even when they were alive, he never liked talking about them. Times haven't changed. "Arranged marriages are quite prominent in pureblood circles back in our parents' time, I'm sure we're both aware of this." He took his candy in his mouth, reveling at its sweetness for a second, before he took it out and held it in his hand. "I suppose we're... privileged to not be tied and obligated to marry someone we barely know. It doesn't mean that we go through our lived unloved." His eyes trailed from the table before them to Tracey, his eyes unreadable. "I will, however, marry for blood preservation if I am placed in such a situation. It is my obligation, after all..."

"Would you?"

Tracey picked up her packet of Fizzing Whizzbees and shook them around before picking one and popping it into her mouth. She listened to Theodore while savoring the treat. Chewing and swallowing the rest of her lolly, Tracey rubbed the back of her neck.

"Of course I'd marry for blood preservation. I mean, it wouldn't my ideal situation, but I do believe I would." Running her hand through her dark hair, Tracey honestly hoped that such a circumstance would not occur.

Looking at Theodore; Tracey smiled a bit and changed the subject. "How are you going in Astronomy?" She asked brightly. The two students shared a few classes together this year, Astronomy being one of them.

It appears that Tracey and him had more things in common that he had initially assumed. This was a pleasing discovery, Theodore though as he quietly listened to the other's insight of marrying for blood preservation, his candy once again going inside his mouth to his enjoyment. "Of course, it is not ideal. But if it were necessary, we would do it, would we not? Familial obligations should not be taken lightly after all..."

"Astronomy?" Theodore casted an inquiring glance at her direction. "I... I'm doing good. I could use a trade for my partner though. I had the complete misfortune of being paired up with a Hufflepuff. Though I might admit that she is quite knowledgeable of the subject, just being around her makes me feel as if I'm catching some sort of disease or something..." A small smile. "I'm sure she feels the same, for which I am actually pleased."

"And yourself? We take the class together, do we not?"

Tracey laughed. "Yes, I seen your unfortunate pairing the other day in class." Chewing her bottom lip thoughtfully, she continued. "I managed to get myself paired with a Hufflepuff. I have no idea why Professors insist on pairing us with people they KNOW we absolutly hate."

Screwing up her face; Tracey thought of her Astronomy homework which was barely finished. "I'm doing okay. I could use some help though.. But I'm sure I'll be able to figure it out sooner or later."
