Radio Play: Metal Bits
EDIT: This is a side thing. This is not replacing threads. It is for fun and on the side. And I got confused with what Vi and I talked about, so I took that bit about the voting out.

I know while Scribbld was down I told people about this on Instant Messenger, but I thought I'd make an official post too to tell those who don't appear on IM and whatnot.

Earlier, I wrote, directed, and edited a Girl Genius style radio play that I called 'Metal Bits'. Here is a link to the download. And here is a link to the script I gave everyone, but if you listen carefully there was a good deal of ad-liping by the end. The play has three parts and is just shy of 21 minutes long in total length.

I know I did a verbal disclaimer at the beginning, but I thought I would remind everyone here that this is a complete unprofessional production. None of us are real actors, so don't think this is going to be extremely nice quality anything.

Here, if you are curious, is a cast list (in order by appearance):
Narrator - 'Liztor' (hopefully Riddick-mun)
Agatha Heterodyne - Shay (Agatha-mun)
The Doctor - Melissa (Doctor-mun)
Sena Kobayakawa - Amy (Sena-mun)
Haruhi Fujioka - 'Liztor'
Person (or Heartless) - 'Claire' (not involved with the RP)
Shadow Link - 'Liztor'
Sound effects - 'Claire'

Also, its not mentioned verbally, but Sena-mun (who was playing Sena) was not there in person. She had her voice beamed live-time over the internet via voice chat. In hindsight I observed that I should have moved the microphone closer to the computer speakers so that she wouldn't have had to have her voice amplified and be competing with paper shifting noises. Either way, her voice being so crappy comes from the fact it came out of a computer speaker and was too far from the microphone.

Don't worry, I have developed several solutions for this so that I can do distance voices more successfully in the future.

Another thing is that I am writing two more plays. You don't have to audition if you want your characters to play a part in one of these productions nor do you actually have to act. Your characters can participate without your voice in the thing. I'm not trying to exclude people without microphones or those that are deaf if they want to enjoy the scripts and see what people are saying. In Metal Bits Haruhi Fujioka and Shadow Link were acted by Liztor, our narrator, not by their mun (since their mun lives in another state and doesn't have a microphone). I can arrange another real life friend of mine to come in and do the acting for you.

What I will need your help with, should you choose to participate, is editing your character's lines. What I did for the first play and will be doing for one of the second plays, is that I wrote the script then had the muns come back and edit and correct all of the lines until they were in character to their satisfactory. Once everyone had done this, I read the entire thing outloud and edited a few things to make them a little easier to say. After that the muns came in for another in character checking once over and the script was agreed as offical. The advantage of this method is things can be done one your time and don't require a lot of work on your part. The disadvantage is that is does take several days and does involve a lot of editing and harrassing of people on my end.

The other second play will be written in a style Jackie suggested (being a nerd I am comparing the two methods to see which is better). The second method will be getting all of the actors together in a group chat, telling them what the plot is and having them act out their part. This method is nice because, therodically it involves less editing from all of the muns (except myself). And by except myself I mean that I have to transcribe the chat into a script and clean up instant messenger grammar and then make lines more sayable. I might have to remove things that get extremely off topic and I might have to adjust things so that the entire plot flows together. Then I will have the muns give it a once over and check for a final in characterness. The disadvantage for this method is that it does involve a little more work on my part and it involves scheduling a time when everyone involved is online. That, of course, becomes a bigger problem the more people that are involved.

Right now I've written the entire first draft script of the first of the second plays. So that one has a set cast at this point, well sort of set cast. We have a scene with Luffy and Sanji and I was wondering if the other Straw Hat pirates would like to participate in that scene.

As for the rest of the cast it is as follows (in order of apperance):
Narrator
Vio
Link
Tohru Honda
Midna
Luffy
Sanji
(Nami?)
(Zoro?)
Lelouch
Konata
Shadow Link

Despite the larger cast, this play will be shorter than Metal Bits since it only has two acts.

The other play is still in the works enough I don't have a defined cast or plot outline yet. So if you aren't included in the above cast list, you are welcome to reply here or IM if you want your characters (or yourself) to have a part in the other production.

I'm deaf :( I can't participate at all. Do all these radio plays have to be canon because now I can't be involved in what sounds like you want to make into an RP event thing.

Mod's I don't want to be a fun killjoy with my disability but yeah I'd agree with the above making this like a spin off fun thing you all would post in the crack comm. (Not saying it would have to be crack or anything.) I just ask because I mean I like to read other threads and know what's going on but if I have to download and listen to certain ones I'm at a strict loss.

Also I don't know if my input is valid but I would have to stamp a big NO on changing around the canon of Kingdom Hearts concerning things like heartless and nobodies and what not.

Oh I had no idea you were deaf. You could still have your character in it and read the script and see what happens to them if you wanted to. This is a just for fun thing.

:) It's okay. It's not something I advertise. I read lips and subtitles just fine. I kind of picked up my characters to play them myself though. You made it sound in your post like this was some sort of canon event of which content from it would be used in the RP and stuff.

Yeah. ;-; It stresses me out though! Majority of my life and time is spent in complete silence and all of a sudden hearing a bunch of things at once freaks me out. I mostly just use it for music cause if I put music on I don't have to hear all the other sounds and my head doesn't explode. Plus over the years I've gotten so use to silence that hearing or attempting to say words embarrasses me because they don't sound how I expected.

Yes! But ask Mari I have to crank the volume so loud that even with my huge headphones she can hear it in the next room but I'm still hearing it at a low volume. I COULD get a cochlear implant but when the entire process was explained to me I was too scared to go through with it.

Over-stimulation sucks, I completely empathize.

(Is hyper-sentive to light, sound, smell, and touch at least it's not taste.)

Exactly. I have a hearing aid but when I actually use it people don't realize that all those normal small sounds that they don't notice because they're not normally there for me I notice and them plus all the other ones just causes me to freak out. It's why I learned to read lips so I wouldn't have to use it in school to pay attention.

My brain has a great deal of difficultly filtering out noises, smells, and simplifying my vision. So I hear things like low-level mechanical buzzes, breathing, people shifting in their seats, and it comes in just as much as the person's voice does.

And my vision and sense of smell are the same way, its a wonder I can walk to school every morning and not have a breakdown.

It's weird sometimes to people that I prefer not having it on and not hearing. It's for that reason though it's just too much. It's hard going from nothing to all of it.

I don't find it weird. In fact there's a part of me that wishes I could shut off noises sometimes.

I understand that your brain can adapt, eventually, to being able to hear from coming from not hearing anything, but that doesn't mean it won't be a shock on the system. There's very little you can do to make it be a more gradual change considering that without some serious sound-proofing, you can't filter out noises if your brain hasn't learned how to do it.
