Adamina
Today was December 17th.

Now--nothing special had ever happened on this day before, in years past, but today was supposed to be different. Today was supposed to be life changing and today it was supposed to be the best day of his and Adamina's lives--

Well, the healers had said that due dates weren't always precise.

The day had come and gone, and now Tim was attempting to fall asleep with his still very pregnant wife by his side. The past nine months had been building up to this day, and Daphne was still quite comfortably set inside of Mina. Part of Tim was a bit relieved that he had another day to go without having the weight of being a father on his shoulders, but that just reminded him it was another day of anticipation and worry and concern that they had everything and---and it was just ridiculous.

Adding onto the fact that he'd gotten nothing but death glares and angry insults thrown at him since he started working on the muggleborn housing complexes. At first Tim would attempt to defend himself, telling people (and some of his friends!) that it was his job and he needed to do it, but now it was just overwhelming to try and fight back so he just stayed silent and---the guilt was being to hurt, a lot. Tim never liked stepping on people's toes, and here he was, building flats that were going to break up families and--it made him sick.

He hadn't been able to sleep, but laid with his eyes shut so to not worry his wife. He did feel sleep coming on, but a noise in the--one eye opened and Tim listened again; was that noise in his dream or...was he going crazy?

Adamina couldn't sleep.

She had her eyes shut, and she probably hadn't said more than two words to Tim since the two of them had been lying in bed together, but she wasn't asleep.

All she could think about was how it was the 17th, and Daphne didn't seem to be any closer to being born than she was a week ago, or a month ago, and Adamina was just exhausted. It had been a long pregnancy, and it had been a rather stressful pregnancy, and she was just--she was ready for it to be over. She had been feeling a lot calmer this past week than she had for nearly the entire time she'd been severely pregnant, but it wasn't a relief in the slightest. She knew Tim had been getting flak for working on the Muggleborn housing developments, and he had nothing to do with what those structures would actually be doing, but naturally, people didn't understand that.

Adamina was feeling so crazed, she didn't think any amount of panicked behavior could aptly show just how scared and stressed she was feeling.

Thump.

Her eyes snapped open.

Noises. Noises that could not have had anything to do with sleeping, because she most certainly wasn't doing that. Of course, there were random bumps and jostles in the night time, every so often. But perhaps it was just because she was so on edge at the moment that the sound was jangling her nerves.

Now there was scuffling.

"Tim," she whispered, eyes tightly shut, trying to only gently push her husband's shoulder and ignore the unreasonable panic that was slowly starting to seep in. "Tim, are you awake?"

He was very, very awake, and Tim immediately shot up at the continuing noises. Was it windy? Could be windy, could be the shutters clapping against the windows, could be---could be a mouse. Tim shook the thought--there were no mice in his house. Somewhat drowsily, Tim looked down at Adamina and smiled gently,

"It's probably just--SuperBunny," he said with a light shrug, even though he was slipping out of bed. This would at least give him an excuse to be up and awake and not lying miserably in bed because of unreasonable hate and guilt. He patted her hand before pushing out of bed and grabbing his wand (that wouldn't be weird, right? To grab your wand to check up on noises you had just assured your wife was simply from the rabbit?).

Tim didn't think twice; he shut the door behind him in case it wasn't just their furry pet. Which, knowing his luck, it probably was going to be some intruder ready to attack him and that would just make this past week even greater right? As he made his way down the stairs Tim thought to himself what kind of weird concoction he could bring back up to Adamina to calm her down and---

"HEY!"

She flew out of bed before she'd even comprehended the noises-- that wasn't the sort of commotion that could only be caused by a rabbit, and if something had happened to him, she'd just--well, at the moment, she just needed to get down the stairs and to Tim before something happened.

Except of course Tim had to have closed it, which she wasn't anticipating and had to skid to a halt in order to open, which she fumbled with, and of course it started to stick now of all times.

"Damn door!" she hissed, kicking it to dislodge it and moving as fast as she could possible make her nine-month pregnant self go. Adamina didn't have to get all the way down the stairs before she saw a gaping hole in the window.

"TIM, WHAT IS GOING ON!" she yelled, clutching the banister.

What exactly, made him charge toward the figure standing near their broken, widely open window, Tim couldn't explain. Instinct, probably, a bit of stupidity as he was basically in the dark and shoeless and in his pajamas, but. Someone was trying to break into their house! There was some punk trying to break into their house and Tim was not going to just let him go.

"HEY!" he shouted again, flinging open the door and shooting some flares at the feet of the intruder---Tim refrained from flinging some nasty spells at him as they were in a pretty muggle neighborhood, but---but he could definitely catch this guy, for sure, but--

Tim slowed down his run at the edge of the front lawn, watching the intruder continue down the street. Well--well then. That was terrifying yet quite anticlimactic. And cold! Very cold, snow was very cold and Tim hurried back to the front porch and into the house. What was he doing, just trying to break in? Just---

The shadow from the side of the porch made Tim jump out of his skin, but at least he was able to pull his arms in to brace himself from the impact of the second intruder's tackle into the snow.

"TAKING OUR FUCKING RIGHTS AWAY----"

"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT--" Tim managed, struggling to get out from under the other man. Rights? What rights did Tim have to offer people and-----oh, "YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!"

An object, a heavy object, had been thrown through their window, in their home. A home, a sacred place, a haven, an asylum--every other synonym for "familial abode" she could think of, and it had just been grossly violated. Was this really what it had come down to? People were attacking her wonderful, amazing, loving husband, for something he had been cheated into doing? For Merlin's sake, he was a Halfblood, himself! Why would he do anything to take away rights from people, he was a good person! As if Tim would have helped with such a project, had he any idea what it would have resulted in.

And then some idiot with morally-skewed concepts of right and wrong felt the need to persecute them here? No, that--no, he'd been standing right there when it had come through the window! What if Adamina hadn't heard it, or if she couldn't move fast enough since she was so bloody huge, and--WHAT, WHERE THE HELL DID TIM THINK HE WAS GOING, BLOODY--LUNATIC--HE MIGHT END UP GETTING HIMSELF KILLED; WHO KNEW WHAT SORT OF PEOPLE WERE ATTEMPTING TO VANDALIZE THEIR HOUSE!

"TIM!" she yelled, fear grabbing at her. Where was that stupid adrenaline when she needed it; that idiot needed to be caught and brought back and then they'd just let the vandals go, and it'd be fine, but--

Yelling. Why the-- yelling, there were yells, and that was Tim's voice, and oh, Merlin, this was--where the hell was her wand!

Upstairs. Her wand was upstairs on her bedside table, and she couldn't make it back up the stairs, into the room, and back down to get it, there'd never be enough time! And who knew what could happen during that time!

What an idiot she was, she didn't even have her wand, what good was she?, Adamina berated herself as she finally made it to the door. A scream strangled itself in her throat as she saw a figure that was struggling with Tim in the snow, blind panic seizing her. A wandless, fully pregnant witch, what could she even do? He looked large, there was no way she could pull him off of Tim, this was--no time to think, oh--Merlin, this was just--

"GET OFF HIM," she cried, bounding onto the snow covered lawn, "GET OFF, WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING--TIM! TIM, WHERE THE HELL IS YOUR WAND!"

She didn't.

Tim had managed to push the other man off of him and caught sight of his wife standing and coming closer and---she was insane. She was insane and without second thought Tim whipped out his wand and sent the other man soaring across the lawn. And--maybe a few unnecessary stunning spells followed, but he had to make sure that the jerk wasn't getting up.

"Mina!" Tim let out, noticing again that it was very cold and there was snow and they did not have shoes on and this was bad, she just---"Mina, get--house! Into the house!"

He nearly felt like shooing her like a scolded puppy but she looked so upset and freaked out that--okay no they needed to get out of the snow, and Tim as quickly as possible helped his wife back into the house, shutting the door and turning on all the lights and---

"I'm so sorry," he muttered, summoning over a blanket and attempting to get slippers or socks to come all the way from the bedroom (not really that far but his hand was shaking and--). His head was throbbing, and holy hell that guy had fists of steel, it felt like he'd been stabbed, "Are you okay? I'm sorry--"

Oh, bloody--did all that really just happen? Her head was so cloudy and numb, and come to think of it, her feet rather were, too, and she just wasn't processing anything. She vaguely felt the blanket being draped around her, but Adamina was shivering too hard for it to do much good immediately. Ugh, her back had been aching for the past two days, she'd been cramping, why did all of this have to happen today?

"Tim, don't be ridiculous, you didn't do anything," she said softly, one hand pressed to her head. "I just panicked so badly because I didn't have a wand, and there was some--some idiot trying to beat up on my husband," she felt the rapid flutters returning to her heart and stomach. "And I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking about running out there like that, I just wanted to make sure you were all right, and then I--"

She broke off mid-sentence with an annoyed huff. What was that? Adamina was just starting to relax, why did there have to be discomfort now? Couldn't she get one night off? Just one? Just to recover from the ridiculous events of this night?

Taking a deep breath, she looked back at Tim, frowning whilst trying to remember where she had left off, when she felt like her legs had been knocked out from under her, falling backward slightly. "I--ow! Oh--Tim, what--what was that--OUCH! ARGH--TIM!"

Tim blanched and caught Adamina by the arms, eyes widening in shock at the slight spasm she just--why, was she hurt? Did someone hurt her? Tim felt his breath get heavy as he tried to figure out what had gone wrong.

"Are you---okay, just--just sit---OW, MINA!" Tim let out at the nails gripping into his arm. Holy hell! His wife had never had a grip like that before, no way, though Tim supposed they'd never been in a bad enough fight for her to want to hurt him and he supposed she could pack quite a punch if she wanted to and---

Finally wrenching his arm away from Adamina, Tim rubbed it gingerly and stared down at her (how he'd managed to get her down into a chair he couldn't remember) and frowned. That was stranger than everything that had happened tonight. Well, no, he couldn't say that, but when you woke up this morning expecting to have your little baby girl in your arms------oh.

Tim's face contorted into one of shock, and he leaned forward, "I--do you think that was---a con--contraction?"

WHAT EXACTLY WAS GOING ON WITH HER BODY, PLEASE? ANSWERS WOULD BE SO NICE.

After what felt like an eternity, although it was probably not longer than a minute or so, she finally felt like she could do something other than want to shriek her head off--which would be partly because her nails were digging into her own palms now.

Except Tim's words set her off on another bout of panic, and Adamina was having trouble remembering to breathe, among other things. "Con-contractions! But--but, we--it didn't happen today! It wasn't going to happen today, why is it happening now?" She looked down at her stomach with big eyes. This baby had superb timing, didn't she?

"Daphne--is it--do we?" Well, this just sucked! Was this labor? This was really painful, if that was the case! And Adamina didn't appreciate it in the slightest! What was the positive side to procreating if the baby would literally try to--to tear itself out of the womb! "TIM, what do we do! I can't think!"

Tim let out a startled, strangled sort of sound and put his hand out in a wild gesticulation of---panic. Panic! His nose was bleeding (it had--dripped, augh--) and he was pretty sure his eye was swelling and now she was going into labor? Now? NOW? Oh---oh---oh.

"Okay---okay, Mungo's would be---good, right? That would be---yes, okay---don't panic!" he said, even though his voice was shaking terribly and he hadn't moved at all to help get his wife up. Definitely not the panic he'd been expecting to be in when Mina went into labor, because he'd absolutely been expecting some panic, but he was dizzy and exhausted and tired and---and---

"Okay, just--let's just--get up and annnnd we'll side-along and everything will be fine, just fine, I'm fine!"

Adamina was just starting to recover from that--that supposed contraction when she was struck with another one. She did not want to get up right now, she just wanted to curl up in a ball and sleep. Except she was way too big to do that, and first, she would want Tim to not be bleeding and to not have a--a black eye, for their window to not have a hole in it, and Daphne could not come right now, this wasn't--! The morning would have been fine, the afternoon--even in the evening!

AND WHY WAS THE PAIN THIS IS EXCRUCIATING, HOLY--VARIOUS DEITIES, SHE WAS NEVER HAVING ANOTHER CHILD. Those women who had three or more children? What were they even on, Adamina didn't think she was going to live through this ONE, what with the searing pain her now-fragile anatomy seemed to be suffering from.

She had to wait for the contraction to pass before getting up and trying to not burden the entirety of her weight onto Tim. If she had been able to speak, Adamina would definitely have told him that there'd be no need for St. Mungo's to deliver Daphne, since Apparating over there would probably squeeze her right out, but she had to refrain.

Nodding slightly, she took Tim's extended arm in as tight a grip as she could manage and felt a lurching feeling in anticipation of the suffocating squeeze she always got during this sort of travel.

Adamina looked down at her stomach reproachfully. Oh, yeah. This one was going to demand a lot of attention.
