open to Archemedes
Before, Jordy had never been so nervous about being around Professor Monroe. Of course, he'd had a crush - but Archemedes hadn't know about it. Now he knew about it. That put an entirely new level of nervousness into the boy's system, and he was more than sure that he'd get word from Archemedes that they couldn't study during spring break. But word never came, and instead Jordy kept his dinner date promise the next day, despite the fact that he was nervous. This time, however, he brought some papers he'd been working on - working together some defensive spells on his own for his final project for Archemedes class. He figured it would give them something relevant to speak of during dinner, and Archemdes would be keeping his promise of helping him study.

As they sat down, this time in the dining hall of the school, Jordy offered a warm smile as he slid the paper over to Archemedes. He was anxious to see what the man thought of his hard work. Two spells were nearly perfect. Aquatis was meant to encase an oppenent with water, and Entundo was to confuse them with a hallucination from their past. The one that needed the most work was Chimura, which was meant to cause a delirious fever - but something that physical, inside of the body, was hard for Jordy to get a grasp on.

"Thank you again for this," he said sincerely as he lifted his burger up to take a bite of it. It was still hot, like it was fresh from the grill though it had been sitting out for at least thirty minutes, and Jordy had to smile. He loved magic.

There had been a faint moment, a little glimmer, when Jordy remembered the fact that there was a safe word but then he started to worry that the safe word might not even be a safe word at all. What if it was something worse, something terrible? No, no - he couldn't use the safe word. Something even more bad would happen.

Suddenly everything fell away, though, and Archemedes was kneeling down beside him. He didn't hear the apology at all, he'd been too wrapped up in his nerves and fear to realize Arch was even close until the charm had been reversed. He was still shaking, still visibly upset, and he looked at Arch with confused and tearful eyes.

"What just happened?" he asked, trembling.

"I made a mistake is what happened," Archemedes said with a dire expression on his face. "I got caught up in the scenario and used a spell that was too much." Without thinking, he brushed Jordy's blonde hair out of his face and then slipped his thumb against his cheek to get rid of some of his tears.

The trembling just made him scoot closer to the other, putting an arm around him. "But it's gone now. We can practice some more tomorrow if you want. I wouldn't blame you if you didn't want to."

Jordy looked utterly perplexed. He blinked a few more times and swallowed hard as he sat back, allowing the backs of his calves to cushion his bum as he looked over at Archemedes. He wanted to seek comfort, honestly. He wanted Archemedes to hold onto him and to keep him close, but he didn't dare ask for it. But then Arch's arm had found it's way around him, and Jordy just sinked against the older man without a second thought.

"No," he said softly, "It's fine - I just, I need a minute," he added shakily.

Archemedes fell silent for a little while, allowing Jordy to collect his thoughts. He tried not to think about his own experiences with the charm he'd used. Instead, he rubbed his hand up and down Jordy's arm, reinforcing the fact that he was there.

After a bit, he sighed. "I'll teach you how to guard against it. It's difficult unless you're prepared for it, but I'm sure you can handle it."

Jordy closed his eyes and he tucked his head down and pressed his face against the front of Archemedes chest. His hand had come up to curl up around the material of Arch's cloak without Jordy even realizing it. He let out a few soft breaths as he leaned against the older man before he opened his eyes and tipped his head up to look at Arch.

"I feel nauseous, did you?" he asked, because he figured this must have been done to Archemedes at some point in time if he'd used the charm on him.

The question made his stomach twist, but more so, the tight contact with Jordy made his breathing go shallow. He hadn't realized it until he felt the boy's fingers against him.

"Are you saying that you're going to throw up on me?" he grinned, purposefully trying to ruin the mood. There was something about the way that Jordy had asked about his own experiences that softened him even more inside. Part of him wanted to tell Jordy everything.

The question made Jordy's face shift into a smile, but only for a moment before the boy drew in a deep breath and let his forehead rest against Archemedes' shoulder this time.

"No, I'm saying I feel like doing it though," he said honestly as he held onto Arch a little bit more tightly. "Is that normal? I mean - I know it's not normal to feel this way usually, but normal in context with the charm normal?"

"I think that much fear always makes you nauseous. It always did for me. It was hard to keep food down sometimes, but I'm hoping that won't be the case for you because your time under was relatively short. It should pass."

His body was starting to get a little tense. The length of time that they'd spent tangled up together was starting to get far from appropriate. But he didn't want to let go, so he allowed himself the indulgence because he figured that Jordy needed it right now.

A part of Jordy wanted to be tough and to continue on. If this were real, he wouldn't have the advantage of taking a pause break. He wouldn't have the advantage of Archemedes reversing the charm to beging with. He felt like he'd failed, and he frowned at the thought. He was shaken up and he wasn't quite ready to go on, though. He'd do poorly, and that made him feel like even more of a failure. He wanted to say that they should head back, but he was too proud and too stubborn. It took a full five minutes for him to work up the courage to admit defeat and he pulled back to wipe at his cheeks with his hand.

"Maybe we should wait until tomorrow, and you can teach me how to defend against stuff like that," he suggested softly, disappointment written all over his face. "I'm sorry."

Feeling like a complete heel, Archemedes stood and helped Jordy to his feet. "I'm the one who's sorry. It was a mistake." He clearly had shattered Jordy's confidence, at least for today. "You're really brilliant, you know. You have to know that. This isn't a failure. I couldn't fight against it either, for a very long time actually." He could just see it in Jordy's posture that he was disappointed with himself.

A teacher's job was not to make their students feel wholly inadequate. He was kicking himself right now.

Jordy allowed Archemedes to help him up, and he even held onto him for a bit of support. His legs felt shaky and weak, and he felt himself flush a bit with embarassment. This as not how he'd imagined the practice run going. He'd wanted to excell, to show Arch that he was mature and capable. That he was ready for this. Apparently Jordy couldn't always excell, though, not at everything.

"It's all right, I have to learn, don't I?" he offered, glancing up at his teacher with a half smile.

"You and me both." Archemedes was going to need to really plan out the final practical exams. He could not have this happening to a student who wasn't nearly as good as Jordy was. Debilitating fear probably wasn't the sort of experience most of the students needed to really learn defense against the dark arts on a casual level. Jordy was a special case, someone with amazing potential, and even he shouldn't have had to experience that charm with so little preparation.

"Do you want me to help you back to your room? I think I will, just for my own peace of mind." He wasn't going to take no for an answer.

"Yes, I'd like that actually," Jordy admitted as he let Archemedes lead the way out of the practice room. "Can we take the long way outside? I think the fresh air will do me some good," he added as he leaned against the older man for a bit of support. "Maybe I should drink some mellon ale to help with the nausea."

"Wow, even after a Formidilosus charm, you're still a little know-it-all." He spoke with the utmost in fondness, never meaning to insult. "It's amazing really. I fear for dark wizards everywhere. I'll bet Larit will want you as a partner. Then again, he may avoid you because by that time you'll know more than he does." Archemedes chuckled to himself at the thought as he led the boy outside, leaving the stark room behind. He'd be jealous if Larit wanted Jordy as a partner, for more than a few reasons on both sides.

The whoosh of fresh, clean air was nice and Archemedes thought it would do him some good too. "Did you think of anything specific when the charm kicked in, or just a general sense of malaise?" He was letting himself get curious about the way the charm affected other people.

While some might get offended by the use of the term know-it-all, Jordy knew that Archemedes didn't mean it in a negative way. There was a sense of fondness in his voice that was detectable, and it made Jordy smile just a little bit.

"Larit? Your partner, your friend? I doubt that, he'll want you back at some point I'm sure," Jordy said with confidence that showed he meant his words. "I - uh," he paused at the question and held his breath for a moment as they stepped outside. "Everything was just - had a ... No matter what I thought of, something else popped into my head to negate the safety of it. It made me doubt everything. It made me afraid of everything, even myself. My own thoughts."

Yes I would! I think William will have just recently lost his job.

Archemedes' smile faded into a grim expression. He'd given up the hope of ever being an auror again. That was probably the wrong way to go about it, but the very thought of going back out into the field was overwhelming.

"Doubt everything," he said with an understanding nod. "Yes, that's exactly it." The description was salient, perfectly fitting the experience and it made a shiver run through him. "Do you know that it's a love spell that's the best to counter it? Sort of a--blind trust inducing state."

"No," Jordy said softly. "I thought about doing a cheering charm to make me laugh, to change my mood into uncontrollable happiness, but just as quick as it came to me it was gone. I rationalized it away irrationally," he mumbled as he walked along side Arch. "Everything I thought of, I just thought - no that's wrong, or it's a trick. How do you get around that part?"

"That's the hard part," he said quietly. "It takes some training, like with legilimency." Archemedes knowledge of that art had helped him somewhat when experiencing the mental torture the Death Eaters had used, but it had taken a lot of work and struggle. "I imagined it like walking paths in the brain. The charm makes the maze harder, but there's always a way out if you make the right series of turns." It was difficult to explain.

He was glad that there was no one on the grounds to see them because it made him feel more comfortable keeping his arm around Jordy. "Now would be a terrible time to take advantage of you, wouldn't it," he joked. It was wrong to send the boy so many different signals. When Jordy joked, it was frequently met with a chill, but here Archemedes was, making innuendo.

"Sounds difficult, but I'd like to try, I'd like to learn," Jordy said with a firm nod.

No matter how hard, he wanted to master it. He wanted to be able to defend himself properly and he wanted to be a good Auror. Archemedes words caught him off guard, though, and he tipped his head up to look at the man in surprise.

"Well - I," he laughed, his cheeks flushing a bright pink. "I know you're joking but I'm still blushing like mad."

"Yes, joking," he said with his voice a little wan. He forced a laugh because the joke had felt momentarily all too real when Jordy had looked up at him. It would have been very easy to just lean down a little and kiss him. "I'd take advantage of you and then when you grew up and got over your crush, I'd be left heartbroken. So really, you'd be taking advantage of me." His smile had only the barest hint of sadness to it, hardly perceptible.

He gave him one last squeeze with his arm before urging him to stand up a little straighter, not leaning on him so much. He was still there to catch him if he fell, but their bodies weren't pressed up so tightly against each other anymore.

"No," Jordy said with a little laugh and a shake of his head. "No, that's not how it would go at all. But we'll just say that's how it would go so neither of us gets in trouble," he added boldly, because why would Archemedes even be saying such things if he wasn't interested back? "When I graduate, maybe we could go to dinner. You know, on a real date. Without the worries of student and teacher. Because I know I think you are lovely and I think that you just might thing the same of me, too," he said as he glanced up at Archemedes. "Or am I being completely ridiculous?"

Archemedes was quiet for a second before canting his head to the side. "Well, how would it go then?" he asked like a challenge, daring Jordy to say that it would be a good thing to pursue something like this, even after graduation.

That question alone said that Jordy's instincts were right and Archemedes thought of him in those terms: terms that he shouldn't be considering given their professional relationship.

"Well, I don't know how it would go," Jordy said. "I've never been good at divination," he added with a half smile as he glanced over in Archemedes direction.

The conversation caused his heart to skip a few beats, and he tried not to smile too much, though he had a feeling he was giving himself away anyhow.

"I'd like to find out how it would go, though. Wouldn't you?" he dared to ask as he let his attention flicker back to Arch.

"If you want to know what I'd like or what I think, then you'll need to do some heavy duty studying of legilimency." He raised his eyebrows, clearly not willing to reveal what he was thinking without Jordy literally stealing it from his brain.

It was not fair to have a very talented, very beautiful student. It was even less fair that he had nearly as strong of a calming effect on Archemedes as Larit had. He pursed his lips together at the thought and looked away. Even if Jordy wasn't a student, Archemedes would resist. People you loved were people that could be used against you and people that could be hurt because of you.

"Tomorrow then? For more practice. I can either train you to resist the charm, or we can do another run for the bunny and I'll promise to keep my head about me and not throw things at you you shouldn't be expected to handle yet."

As they stepped into the dorm hall, Jordy led the way to the stairs. They didn't move around, but sometimes the doors did. It could get tricky finding your way back to your room if you weren't paying attention to the numbers. When they reached the top, a Knight stood guard and Jordy had to give it the password before it stepped aside.

He was quiet, unsure of what he should say to Archemedes. As they reached his door, Jordy checked the number to make sure it was his, and he turned to look at Arch.

"All right, tomorrow then," he said with a nod of his head.
