Sorting Things Out (open)
Cait was at her favorite place down by the lake. There was a lot to mull over and she needed some quiet to work it all out in her head. The mansion was generally a noisy and busy place and not good for getting some quiet to think. A prank war was starting up and Cait didn't want to get caught up in it. Maybe if Corey had been here....

A new dimensionally challenged family member. It was a lot to process and a lot think about. Arthur seemed nice enough, but there were a lot of unspoken issues and history. Cait wanted to ask him more about his home world and his life, but was unsure of how to do it without upsetting him. She wanted to understand him and the situation better. He was family and she wanted to help.

She thought about asking Misha or Rachel how they dealt with dimensionally challenged siblings showing up, but she wasn't sure they'd be able to help. Different situations and Cait didn't think their siblings came with a background like Arthur's.

Cait stared out over the water as she tried to figure out what to do.

	Cassidy is also hanging out at the lake, thinking about what he's going to do now. Eventually, he'll have to talk to Mina, but what will he say? An apology seems like too little for what was taken from her. But saying nothing seemed more wrong. When he sees Cait, he rises from the floor nervously. "Sorry. Didn't mean to bother you. Cassidy does as request and sits with Cait. She's one of a very few people to invite him to talk to her. Does she know what he did? If she did, would she still be nice to him?

"I'm...just a bit lost, I guess. My parents gave me away when I was a baby to a bad person. I watched this person hurt people because he wanted to teach me things. I finally got away from him, but...all I do is hurt people wherever I go.

I don't want to hurt people. I just want to be as normal as I can. But I don't anything about my parents or who I am." Cassidy says.

"I'm practically a nobody, and I don't know how to fix that." he says sadly.

Cait nodded. "I understand. I understand wanting to be normal, not wanting to hurt anyone and not wanting to be a nobody," she said. "The big one not hurting people. I was taken by Apocalypse and turned into a Horseman. I killed a lot of people and hurt a lot. I know what you're going through."

Cait had heard about Cassidy and the events that had happened.

"I'm sorry that you had to go through all of that."

"This Dr. Millbury was working against El Taco Lips?" Cait shook her head. "Sorry. Old X-Men joke." If someone was working against Apcocalypse, then Uncle Scott or the Professor needed to be told. Enemy of my enemy and all of that.

"No. I don't stop thinking about it, but because I don't forget it, I try to do as much good as I can each day. You wake up each day and tell yourself that you'll do as much good as you possibly can. It doesn't make up for what you did, but it helps you deal. As time goes by you focus less on what you did and focus more on what you're doing now."

Cassidy listens to Cait explain why she does what she does, and he can see the merit in that. He wonders if that's something he ought to try. "What did he look like?" Cait hesitantly asked. She had a gut feeling that this was something the X-Men were familiar with.

"It was at first," she explained. "When I first manifested I would flood rooms and accidentally soak people. I had to practice a lot to gain control. Before Apocalypse changed me, I had a lot of control over my powers. Since then I've had to learn all over again. My powers changed a little."

"Sometimes he looked like a normal person." Cassidy shrugs. "Other times, he looked a like zombie or a ghost. His skin was white like chalk, and his lips were blood red with sharp teeth."

Cassidy shudders a little.

"He even had a red thing in the middle of his forehead sometimes. He didn't like it when I saw him that way. He got really angry and...he told me I should forget what I saw or he'd let George and the others get me." Cassidy says.

"Or he'd lock me up in the chamber."

	"Sinister..." Cait hissed. "His name is Nathaniel Essex, also Mister Sinister. He's a geneticist. He's been an enemy of the X-Men for a long time and he usually works for Apocalypse. Cassidy blinked.

"Essex? That's...that's part of my last name." the young man blinks. "Doctor Milbury always says he was naming me after a great man. He said I was supposed to be better than anyone who came before me..." Cassidy says, looking ill.

"I'm sorry Apocalypse hurt you. I know it doesn't mean much, but you got pretty hair out of that." Cassidy says. "Still, no one should ever have to go through what we have. You're right."

"Thank you, Cait. I...think I know what I want to do now. I know how I can make up for everyone I've ever hurt." Cassidy says.

"I'm going to learn to control my powers, at least. But I want to help people who have had it rough like me. I'd like to help them from ending up the way I have so far. I'm not sure how to go about it, yet, but I'll come up with something." he says, looking away for a moment.

When he speaks again, it's much quieter, less resolved. "Someday, I also want to find my parents and just ask them why. Why did they give me away and let me go through all of that?" he asks.

"Did they know what I would do? Did they see the future and just decide they knew what I'd do so they got rid of me?" he asks.

	Cait smiled. "That's what we do here," she said. "We help others when we can and we help mutants learn to control their powers." "I can understand that. A lot of mutants grow up without parents. We talked a bit and from what he said, I can't imagine what kind of world he grew up in. I want to get to know him, but I'm not sure how to do it without offending him." Cassidy thought about what she said. He'd heard that Rose was "dimensionally-challenged" as they called. So was Anastasia, come to think of it.

"Well, you could do for him what you did for me. Let him bend your ear. Maybe he'll talk about it at first, and maybe he won't, but he'll at least know you care enough to ask. It's probably hard on him, being here with people he doesn't know, in a world different from the one he knows.

I know how that feels." Cassidy says.

"But if he knows you care, then he'll open up, sooner or later." Cassidy says.
