Who: Rowan and OPEN! Where & When: The commons, Sunday afternoon. Rating: Safe for work for now. Will update if needed. Summary: Rowan is out in the commons, practicing her guitar work, when SOMETHING HAPPENS. She had not been practicing enough with her guitar recently. Rowan decided that when she went to practice as a way of trying to relax a bit. The whole thing with these creatures in her dorm had really freaked her out enough, but then the whole thing with what had happened on the hunt... and well, she needed to calm down a bit. So she had taken her guitar out to an out of the way spot on the commons and started to play a bit, running through chord progressions as a way of warming up, going by memory through the finger placements of each one that she knew. Her fingers felt stiff as she started out, and it was then that she decided that she had not been putting enough effort into this as she used to. So she set herself to work, going over every practice song and every exercise she had ever been taught to that point. She wasn't quite sure how long she was there practicing, but she had finished all of those and was opening up the Smashing Pumpkins songbook that had also been a part of her overly-extravagant Yule gift when she saw someone approaching. It had taken Tatum most of the day to decide how she was going to spend it. She had woken up pretty late, and just laid in bed for quite some time, staring at the ceiling and debating whether it was even worth it to get up at all. She felt pretty exhausted, staying up late to play Starcraft with Shelby the night before, but she supposed that lazing around in bed wasn't going to solve the problem. Once she dragged herself from the mattress, making her way over to her desk where there was half of an unfinished can of Monster sitting by the laptop. It was really warm, at least ten hours old now and sitting out the whole night long, but it did the trick. She chugged most of it in a single go, and then headed off to the showers, returning not long after. Taking extended showers had never been her idea of a good time. She hated community bathrooms, and it was only this year that she had begun being able to go in there when other girls were there. She had spent previous years waiting patiently until it was totally empty before she could even sneak off to pee. Getting herself ready for the day, she had her guitar hanging from her shoulder by it's strap as she left the Sonnier dormitories. She was puffing away almost as soon as she got outside, and by the time she spotted Rowan, she was nearly done. She felt a little blazed, and she was glad to see her friend. It would be much less lonely spending time with her, and-- well, she'd be damned, it looked like Rowan had her guitar out. Tatum remembered hearing about it over break, but this was the first time she had actually seen the other girl play. And, squinting briefly at it, was that a Pumpkins songbook? Rowan was most definitely on the right path to success, Tatum couldn't help but grin. Taking two quick last puffs from what was left held between her fingers, Tatum pitched the roach aside onto the ground, and began to pick up her pace toward Rowan. "Hey, can you play Porcelina of the Vast Oceans yet?" she called, still grinning.

"Oh, ok then. Well, I think that's actually something I'd like to do. I'll have to see what fits both the guitar and my... personality, I guess? We'll see, and if I come up with something, I will definitely let you know about it."
When Tatum spoke about something she was working on, Rowan laid the guitar down in her lap. "Absolutely! Let's hear it. Is this something of yours that you wrote, or something you've taught yourself how to play?" Rowan had a decent grasp on what music was out there, but she didn't know everything, and didn't want to assume the wrong thing.

"Just something I taught myself to play," Tatum replied, shrugging her shoulders. "I'm trying to learn the whole album actually, but I'm only part of the way there." She began to play, not bothering to sing along, just humming slightly. Singing in front of other people was still a sore spot for her, and other than Frankie coaxing it out of her, it didn't happen often. "I've only really written one or two things of my own, I'm not much of a lyricist," the red-head admitted, still strumming.

"I love Hole, but fuck Courtney Love," Tatum lamented, grinning as she moved the guitar out of her lap to lay it in the grass beside them. After that, she unceremoniously flopped backwards herself, staring up at the sky as she spoke. "I'm not that creative, I can really only cover stuff. I'm trying to learn Californication right now, but it's pretty boring without any drums.. I was thinking of asking Shelby or Sam to lay it down with me, but then I'd.."
She paused, biting her lip. "I'd have to sing, I guess, if I'm going to go and try to.. get some band together or some shit. I'm not sure I can do that."

"Courtney Love is a murdering hobag, but I can't discount a good tune when I hear it. I've been listening to Hole since I was a kid," Tatum mused, returning the little quirk of a smile. "Bitches be bitches, but she knows how to draw me into a song. I'm actually kinda pumped to see how this new album goes. Better than her solo work, I hope."
Tatum balked a little when Rowan suggested singing, an embarrassed expression crossing her face. "Really? I mean, I'm.. it's not that good. You've probably heard Sera, like.. in choir or whatever. I can't sing like that."
She glanced down at the guitar again. "I think I could be in a screamo band, I could scream, I have like.. tons of stuff I wanna scream. But singing is different. It's all.. soulful and deep. Scary stuff."
