Characters Charlie and Jenny Setting San Fran, the drive-in theatre Content Swearing, smoking and general cuteness. Summary It's Charlie and Jenny's six month anniversary, but nothing ever goes according to plan.. Tonight was going to be perfect. Things between Charlie and Jenny had been slightly strained to say the least, more arguments and less making up. It was all down to him, of course, like always. He had to stop dealing, he might get hurt. It was only last week he'd met up her with a black eye, that argument was still fresh in the air. But none of that mattered tonight because he was going to fix everything. They were cruising slowly in Charlie's car, Elvis on the tape deck. He tapped his tumb on the steering wheel to the beat, his other hand occupied with a cigarette. He glanced over at Jenny briefly, catching her eye and smiling. She looked amazing and not for the first time he wondered what she saw in him. He'd gone to some effort to, as much as he could bear. Even after six months she still made him feel like a total goof. She always managed to worm her way past the facade. They drove for a while, silent. Charlie was enjoying the music, it was a mixtape he'd made to appease her. Every so often some 80s Madonna or Abba would come on and he'd grin and bear it. It was dark by the time they reached their destination, a surprise for Jenny. They were at a Drive-In, it was old and dated and fantastic. He hoped she would like it, it had taken a lot of thought to come up with. Shutting off the engine he stubbed out his cigarette, stretching his arm out and curling it around Jenny's shoulder's possesively. "What do you think?" he said, planting a kiss on the top of her head. "I chose the scariest film they were showing, Princess." He smirked, knowing she'd have to get close to him. Jenny had been clueless to what Charlie had been planning, but she had dress up a little, just in case. Whatever he chose for them to do, she was confident that it would be a good night, and she just hoped that he thought she looked okay. She had put on the necklace her given her for their first month, her favorite perfume, and did her hair just the way he liked. There was no way tonight could be anything short of perfect. She had been trying to forget the recent weeks, the stupid fights, the tension. Tonight wasn't about those things, and she refused to dwell. She was quiet and content for the whole ride, sitting comfortably in his passenger side, occasionally glancing aside at the window, occasionally glancing over at him, watching him exhale. When they pulled up to the drive-in, Jenny was surprised but not really surprised. It hadn't been what she had expected, but knowing Charlie, it was very fitting. Her lips curled into a smile, and when his arm wrapped around her, she leaned into him closely. "I think it's amazing, I haven't been to one of these in forever," she replied softly, smiling further as he kissed her head. She knew exactly what he was getting at with the scary movie, and she giggled a little, pressing her lips against the side of his jaw. "You're setting me up for a cuddle session, then? Is that what you're saying, huh?"

"As if I'd ever get you to admit to cuddling," Jenny replied, still giggling a bit. Once the movie was starting up, the blonde settled back more comfortably into her seat, still leaning into him. She loved reading a good scary novel, but film was always so different. It was different to imagine the blood than it was to see the blood; in her imagination, she could dumb down the level of violence.
When a particularly juicy young teen was cut clear in half, Jenny let out a little whimper, head turning to bury against Charlie's chest. "That's so gross," she muttered, although she was being a good sport about it. "There is no way that's what the inside of a chest looks like."

Years of staying up late and watching crap on TV had desensitized Charlie to even the grossest of films, besides, it was always much more fun to watch her than the screen. He laughed slightly and nudged her with his shoulder. "Come on Princess, you're missing the best bit" he teased, but sheltered her eyes anyway.
He chose the right film, anyway. Jenny was close to him, she was warm and soft and he wondered if he would ever get used to the way she smelt so..nice.
"Oh shit, I forgot" he said, suddenly remembering something and grimacing slightly. He dug into his inside pocket and pulled out a now pretty battered sunflower. "I should have charmed it" he chided himself, handing it to Jenny anyway with a lop-sided grin. "Happy Anniversary" he mumbled, the movie forgotten.

Jenny had been oblivious to anything Charlie was doing, her face just buried obediently against his chest, the occasional little gasp escaping her when someone screamed on the screen. She kept stealing little peeks, partially from between squinted eyes, before face moving back into his chest again. It seemed like an endless cycle, and she was more than ready to keep it up until the movie was over, just enjoying the warmth of him, and the smoky smell of his shirt, when he produced the flower.
She blinked a little at his explanation, but straightened up, not leaning onto him as heavily as she accepted the flower. "... Really? For me? You shouldn't have," the blonde said softly, taking the offered flower, and looking it over. Even if it wasn't in perfect condition, she couldn't deny the way it made her feel warm and fuzzy all over. Very in love, and very protected, right there in that car with him.
"I love.. it, it's amazing," she added, leaning in to press her lips against his gently.

"You would think that," Jenny replied softly, smiling a little against their kiss, her eyes closing. When Charlie mentioned his mother, she could only smile further, pulling back a bit to look at him skeptically. "You know me, I'm just naturally charming," she teased him. She tried to play it off, but inside, she was genuinely glad that Christina had taken a liking to her. Especially with the way she chided her own children, but generally left Jenny unscratched. She was glad that she was welcome in their home, and allowed to visit.
Honestly, she had been surprised that her own mother had let her visit, staying over with a boy. Even if Paula did like Charlie just fine, she had still made sure to speak to his mother before letting Jenny come. In the end, it had worked out, at least. "My mum likes you too, she thinks you're very handsome," she added, giggling a bit. "She says she looks like you should be on General Hospital or something."

"Hey! She could have compared you to a lot worse than General," Jenny informed him. She leaned into his arm, smiling up at him, tongue sticking out briefly. "She could have said you were like one of the guys on Maury, and that wouldn't be nearly as flattering, believe me," she added, laughing a bit.
"If she knew you were fit for Maury, I don't think she'd let me come out," the blonde replied, glancing at the screen again for just a moment, long enough to see a man's arm chopped off, before she turned away again.

"I am not interrogating you! It was a simple question! You're being avoidant and you know it," Jenny replied, arms still crossed tightly, eyes still staring at him, looking skeptical. "If you would just tell me what you were working on, I'd leave you alone.. but, oh wait, I can only guess what you did. And that's why you're being such a dickhead," she muttered, turning her head, staring out of her window instead.
"How could you do that? You know exactly how I feel about it, and still you just.. you don't even care, you never listen!"

"It's not about being a pussy," Jenny snapped back, turning to look at him again, her face furious. She was proud of herself for not crying yet, but she was close. "And I'll have you know that my parents do not throw money at me or my sister, and they have worked really hard for a really long time to give us everything we have! How dare you act like I'm spoiled? I just-- you don't even understand, do you?"
She felt the first tear slip down her cheek, and quickly turned her head away. "There are other jobs, don't play stupid, if you really wanted-- you just want the easy way, and you don't care what happens so long as you get paid. You don't care about everyone who is worried to death about you. You're just lucky I don't tell your mother, she'd beat your ass up one side of your street and down the other, you asshole."

Charlie avoided her gaze, instead pretending to be watching the film, but really it was just moving shapes, he wasn't focused on it, but rather the dark cloud that was lying in his head. He laughed cruelly at her comment about his mom, it was true, but he wasn't going to admit that. There was that time she caught Adam sneaking her cigarettes, he couldn't sit down for a week.
"You don't have to worry about me, doll" he said nonchalantly, gripping the steering wheel with one hand, his white knuckles giving away how he was feeling. "Not anymore, anyway. I don't want to work hard, I'm not ashamed that I want an easy life. I don't care if people are worried, I'm alright, aren't I?"

"Whatever. I try to live in the moment just as much as the next person, but you're just being an idiot. It's one thing to think of the future as a long way off, but if you screw up the present, you're going to be in a rut in the future too! It's like, actions have reactions, Charlie. It's not just going to all come together," the blonde hissed, eyes rolling at him.
When he stared at his lap, she did the same, brooding the whole way, knowing she was going to start crying harder if this all kept going the way it was. It was supposed to be a good night together, now it was all ruined.

"Don't call me an idiot" he said simply, too pig-headed to really take on board what she was saying. He didn't want to hear it, so he chose not to. She was probably right, one day he might get into trouble, worse trouble than last week, but he wasn't going to admit that to himself. He was making a killing, and he wasn't even at school. Besides, it's not like a wizard could get caught doing anything illegal, right?
"I need a joint" he mumbled, pressing his fingers between his eyes, irritated she had ruined tonight.

Jenny sighed, rolling her eyes for what felt like the hundredth time that night. When he mentioned a joint, she pursed her lips, turning back to him, deciding she had enough.
"Did you fucking bring one? On our anniversary, are you for real?" she managed, honestly surprised. She thought tonight, at least one night, he would do without, for her. "If you light that, I'm getting out of this goddamn car, and walking back to Michigan."

Jenny was furious. Her mind didn't know whether she wanted to bawl her eyes out or just slap him until his face was on the other side of his head. He knew just how to get to her, and he was doing it on purpose, completely and totally. That made her even more mad, if she could get there. "You're just-- I can-- fuck you, you're such a selfish prick! I hate you!" she snapped, moving to open her door, pushing it open with her legs, as she turned on him again.
"I can't even apparate, I'm not even seventeen!" she practically screamed, as if that needed to be emphasized, as she climbed out of the car. She grabbed her clutch from the seat, opening it, and taking the condom out, throwing it across the space between them, and then removing the ring from her finger as well. "Selfish, piece of shit!"
And with that, she threw the ring as well, turning on her heel and storming across the drive-in parking lot.
