You're looking at a winner... (Open to Anya, Tina and Force Works)
"Mr.  Rhodes, we have to say, this is the most forward thinking and far reaching work we've ever seen. The coding is superb and the device itself is not nearly as bulky as its television counterpart. We received several excellent submissions, but your work stood head-and-shoulders above the rest. The data storage and recollection capabilities are also second-to-none." says Mr. Will Wright, a trustee of the X-Prize Foundation.

"The news release is going out today, Mr. Rhodes. You're the winner of the contest." Mr. Wright says, reaching out to shake his hand. "And we'd like to discuss having Cambire Designs mass-produce these devices for use in hospitals around the world."

"Thank you, Mr. Wright." Justin says, accepting the handshake. "And I'd love to talk more about that. Cambire would be glad to do this work."

Inside, Justin is would like to dance a jig, but he's a terrible dancer without Tina, and he's trying to be professional anyway. A few months ago, he'd been looking for a project, any project, that he could do in his free time that didn't involve upgrading/testing/developing his armor and the rest of the Iron Family (he'd taken to referring to the collective armor wearers by that moniker). Tony, his AI, had come across the X-Prize Foundation's challenge to build a working medical tricorder. As in, from Star Trek. The moment he saw the release, Justin knew he'd found his project. He'd found it two weeks after the competition had started but that didn't daunt him one bit. Uncle Tony used to say that being behind just made one work smarter, not harder, to catch up.

Part one of working smarter involved calling an old friend.

The move to Kansas City and getting settled in might have cost most people valuable time, but Anya had come out to Kansas City to help with the set up Cambire's offices and Justin had insisted that they set up the lab first and foremost. Between the two of them, it only took a full day to pull it off and after the rest of the building was ready, Justin spent the rest of his available time in the lab, coming out only to eat and to call Tina, who always seemed to be busy. Rather than be upset, Justin worked to meet the July 1st deadline.

He'd finished three days early and put the tricorder to the most extensive battery of tests he could come up with; it passed every one with flying colors. Once he'd created a second, he sent the first off to the committee for judgment. The wait had been torturous, but the phone call came last Friday night as Justin was, again, calibrating his armor.

They'd asked him to come in and discuss his work. Now, he was the winner of the contest. The patent application was sent in the following morning.

Mr. Wright's voice cuts into Justin's thoughts.

"So, what are you going to do with $10,000,000 dollars, Mr. Rhodes? Early retirement?" Wright asks, chuckling.

"Oh no, Mr. Wright. After I make a contribution to charity and to my company, I've got a few irons in the fire, some new ideas that I'll now have the freedom to pursue." he says.

Like new armors. he thinks to himself.

Anya of course had been keeping track of the contest and had been waiting for the news. Goddard informed her of the results and she called Justin immediately.

"Congratulations," she said when he picked up the phone.

"Hey, half of this congratulations belongs to you. Without your coding work, this thing would not have wowed the judges the way it did." Justin says, having settled in back home later that day.

The announcement had gone out and it seemed like Cambire's phones were ringing off the hook suddenly. He was being asked to describe the tricorder at medical conferences and in hospitals all over the world. The orders were already coming in, despite production not having started just yet.

Between that and all of the work for Zero Point Energy coming in, Justin is swamped...and he loves every second of it.

"How do you live with such a busy schedule? You're the second person to call me today not regarding business and I missed the first one. You're still going out of the country this coming week, right? Or is my turn?" he asks.

"You did the hard work," she said. "I only wrote the code. I'm happy for you and for Cambire."

"I'm a Stark. We /thrive/ on busy schedules. To us it's like oxygen and food. Without it we would...well it wouldn't be pretty. It's your turn, but I'll go for you. You have Cambire to worry about it." She would have to make it up to Steve for cancelling weekend plans.

"No, you shouldn't. You and Steve don't get enough time together as it is and that guy is a saint for dealing with it. I'll handle it and you're going to enjoy being married." Justin says.

"Since you won't accept the prize money, let me do this for you." he says.

"It's okay. I got this week and next covered. You worry about Cambire right now. I was going to ask Steve to come with me so you don't have to worry about my marriage."

His phone had literally been busy all day. She couldn't even get into his voicemail (okay, she could. She just had to manipulate a few things but that seemed a little...evil.) Instead, she decided to wait. Granted, calling him at midnight made it one in the morning for her, but she figured her odds were better, catching him late.

Hopefully he wouldn't be sleeping. He could sleep like the dead. Especially when he had his phone only set to vibrate.

One ring. Two rings...three.

She braced herself for another missed call.

Justin had just come up from the lab and was about to lie down when he remembered that his phone was on vibrate. He'd forgotten to take turn it back on when he got out of that meeting. He notes that it's lit up and reaches out to grab it. He didn't get a chance to see the caller ID.

"Hello?" he says, sitting down.

Four...

The line picks up at four and though she hears Justin's voice, she assumes she's managed to get into his voicemail this time. It's an improvement, but barely. She sighs.

"Hey Justin, it's Tina. I guess you're asleep. I hope you're sleeping well and feeling okay." She pauses. She's just so tired of leaving messages.

"Hey, it's me! Tina, it's me." Justin says, trying to cut her off before she hangs up.

"How are you? You're up late." he says. She didn't really care much for staying up late, he remembers. She was particular about her bed time.

"You okay?" he asks.

Blink.
"Justin? The real Justin and not his voicemail?" She perked up. "Yeah, I'm up late, but I figured late was about the only time I'd be able to catch you. I've spent a lot of quality time with your voicemail. I'm fine, baby. Better since I actually get to talk to you. How are you? Are you taking care of yourself?"

It wasn't everyday that something like this happened, especially to your brother. So when Harvey found out, he made it a point to congratulate Justin. He didn't have the money to buy something expensive or whatever, but he did want to chill out for a day with his brother.

Justin shakes his brother's hand and hugs him upon the congratulations.

"Thanks, man. I appreciate it. You hungry? We catch lunch somewhere if you want and then figure out something else to do." Justin suggests.

"Have you talked to Mom lately?" he asks.

Harvey handshakes and hugs his brother. They've moved way beyond that awkward stage, so they can treat each other like what they are; family.

"No problem, you deserve it. Yeah, lunch sounds good. My treat."

This was no time for Justin to be squandering his well-rewarded money on lunch.

"Yeah," he replied, nodding. "We've had some pretty intense conversations, and then a lot of good, family-oriented talks. To be honest, I feel like I belong here now."

"I'm glad you're settling in, Harvey. Really, I am. How are you liking work? This company is going to help us help a lot of people out there, which is what I've always wanted to do. There's so much to do and only twenty-four hours in a day." he says.

"Speaking of, I'd like to take a look at your armor sometime. Might be able to double the RPM's and get some more efficiency out of it, among other things. We've got a lot of space to test out our stuff here, man. I told Hannah the same thing, but she's still a little...distant." Justin says.

"You two talk yet?" he asks.

"Work is great, you know? Lots of things to do to keep me occupied. I like it."

Harvey kept up well when Justin was talking about his armor. He was about to comment, but Justin brought up Hannah. That subject was uneasy for him, just because he still felt bad about telling Tony about her. And he knew it had upset her.

"N...no," Harvey admitted. "I don't know what to say to her. I feel like 'I'm sorry' just isn't good enough."

Justin's accomplishments gave Toni something to focus on besides her own problems. From another universe or not, she was certainly proud of her brother.

She eventually tracked him down. "My brother, the Trekkie," she grinned.

"Hey, creating a working tricorder doesn't make me a Trekkie." Justin grins.

"At least, not yet. I still need to use a 'Dammit Jim, I'm a genius not a 'insert something funny here'." Justin says.

"Next time Dad asks me to do something in a meeting, I'll say it then. Imagine the look on his face." Justin laughs.

She actually laughed at that. "Oh, God. I can already see it."

She shook her head. "You brainiacs just never turn it off, do you?"

But she smiled. "'s weird. I mean, I wasn't doing it all that much when she moved down to Boston anyway... but I kinda miss being the one in charge of looking out for her."

Hannah still didn't know anyone on a personal level well-enough to make with the big congratulations, but she did know that barbecue seemed to always go over very well with Justin so she got him a slab of ribs and made sure it was clearly marked with 'for Justin, do not eat this Harvey, no way.'

Justin finds Hannah later, laughing at the note on the ribs she got for him.

"You two really should just go out and get it over with. The flirting is getting ridiculous." Justin says by way of greeting.

"Thanks, Hannah. I'm the one eating the barbecue, but you're making my girlfriend's blood pressure skyrocket by getting it for me." he says.
