RECEPTION POST! FOR SATURDAY! EVERYONE!

It had been a long journey, but he and Maggie had finally, finally arrived here, where they could share their relationship with world. Celebrate it! With their family and friends (the most dramatic of which Adrian had made sure would be on their best behavior tonight through some light verbal assaulting), whom Adrian was more than willing to extend his happiness to. And it was, it was such a deep joy that he couldn't--- even though they had been married for months, tonight made it feel... official, like there could no longer be any question that they were Adrian and Maggie Mattias, with their two beautiful children and their beautiful life---

Adrian cut off his own thoughts, thinking that they would only lead to a less put together version of himself. Instead, he simply let his thoughts roll to how this was an excellent way to kick off what would unquestionably be the most hectic two months of his (and Maggie's) life. But in a good way, it made him content to think that... they would need to sit down and figure out their schedules to ensure seeing each other, staying together as a close family because in the end, if that wasn't important, then what really was? Working through and with the sport they individually loved, spending the holidays together... he had no doubt he and Maggie would work it out effortlessly.

And, just in case, it was a good thing they had spectacular sex to smooth any rough patches over.

His lips pressed into something of a grin, and letting his cheekiness take over him, Adrian reached over in his seat to graze his hand slowly up Maggie's leg. Dinner had just ended, and it was getting late enough that the lights that had been set up for hours were finally starting to create nothing short of a stunning atmosphere. Their guests could enjoy it, but he had all the beauty he needed right here.

"Are you enjoying yourself?" It was a serious question completely lost in his proud smile and light-mannered tone. Adrian leaned over to lightly kiss the side of Maggie's neck.

Maggie and her family had gone through a lot this year, admittedly most if it was her own fault and doing, but she felt content in where they had ended up. A year ago, they were planning a wedding that would never happen, but even with the tumultuous few months that followed, she and Adrian had managed to move past mistakes that had been made and come to the realization that all they really wanted, or needed, was each other. Maggie couldn't deny that some nights, when her thoughts kept her up late into the morning, that she feared she may not live up to the expectations of her husband or children. She worried constantly about making another grave mistake, but right now as she dreamily gazed over how beautiful their garden reception was, with the soft glowing light of the sky illuminating every centerpiece, table, and guest, Maggie found it in herself to believe that yes, they really were meant to be happy.

Her eyes shut at Adrian's initial touch, her hand grasping his under the table the moment his lips touched her neck. With how rocky and strange of a foundation they had formed their relationship over, it was truly a miracle that they were here today. It had taken a lot of persuasion on Adrian's part to make the event as big as it was, but Maggie was grateful of it now. A wedding on a beach in Portugal was private and intimate, just for them, but a lavish event like this to proclaim your love how and terribly thrilled you were to be married to this person? Maggie found herself speechless for most of the night, unable to convey how it truly made her feel to know that someone, that Adrian loved her this much.

"Yes," she murmured, turning to press her forehead against his. The evening had been so splendid so far that they could sit like this for the rest of the night and she would be fine with that. Maggie let out a shuddering breath. "Thank you for this."

His brow furrowed, as he felt that she didn't seem... happy. Well, no, not not happy, because she was but not in the manner that he had hoped? If that made sense. When Adrian had thought about what this night would be, he had imagined her... beaming, ecstatic, because this was what they needed. And deserved! The first time around... that had not been... here, now, was how it should always be thought of when they looked back upon the beginning of their marriage.

Adrian closed his eyes for a moment, taking in the connection of their foreheads meeting. There would be no thoughts of their almost coming together in January, he firmly decided upon that. It was in the past, they had moved on and worked past it together.... he knew she knew that.

Didn't she? Was that what was concerning her? How tonight was such an obvious throwback? Had all of this been too much? Was it too lavish? They, after all, he had come to realize, were not actually as attention-seeking, grande, and larger-than-life as their media personas made them out to be. They were actually incredibly pleasant homebodies with incredible talent and looks, if he didn't say so himself. So was that....?

Adrian's brow furrowed further, and he brought Maggie's hand up to his lips to gently kiss it. "Are you sure?" he asked seriously, turning more of his body to properly face her. If she wanted to leave, they could leave. He wouldn't even have to think about it for a second because if there was anyone here with that power, it was certainly them.

"If it's too much...." he trailed off, shaking his head lightly. Adrian was sure she would understand what he was implying.

Maggie shook her head, smiling at his concern. Her knuckles grazed against Adrian's cheek softly, "It's perfect."

Her eyes went in and out of focus as she kept her gaze with him. Maggie could honestly say that that this kind of love, the love that made her entire body ache for Adrian when he wasn't around, was something she'd never felt, or thought she could feel. She'd always scoffed at the girls who were lovesick in Hogwarts and her relationships outside of school never lasted more than a few months before tempers flared or she grew weary of the effort needed. Her time with Adrian had begun with a ruse, but it had developed into something Maggie had never known she wanted so badly in her life.

"I'm overwhelmed," she admitted, eyes watering. There had been a time when all she wanted out of life was to be the center of attention, but Maggie found she was perfectly fine with being ignored by their large group of guests as long as she was with Adrian. He'd stayed by her through her darkest hours, and she'd never give him up again. "All of this it---I keep thinking about how much I love you, Adrian, and---"

She let out a soft laugh, shaking her head, "I love you so much it startles me sometimes." Maggie felt her face heat up, her lips twisting into a shy smile. He had changed her for the better, so much for the better.

The sides of his mouth perked into a smile, and Adrian felt his previous worries wash away. Overwhelmed was okay, overwhelmed was something he could deal with. He was sure he would have felt the same way, if he hadn't been so adamantly involved in making sure all of this was for her. It was a lot, taking into consideration everything they had gone through to get here. But, that still didn't change his desire to see his wife happy only.

Adrian inched forward in his seat, balancing on the edge to press closer to her still. Love? Love was making her feel emotional? He shook his head slightly. His beautiful wife couldn't be crying because she loved him too much. Tears were for sadness, and tonight was anything but about that.

His arm lifted to allow his hand cup the side of her face. Taking his thumb, Adrian brushed it lightly under her eyes to wipe away her swelling tears. Smiling at her a little, he spoke quietly, head tilting slightly.

"You can't possibly love me more than I love you," Adrian nodded as he spoke, his words so easily coming out of his mouth because it was truly how he felt. Raising his other hand, he gently held both sides of her face to rest a sound kiss on her lips.

"Don't feel more overwhelmed now," he rushed, pulling back slightly to rest his forehead on hers again. Only after did he realize how his words might overcome her even more.

MACBOOT!

Odette had early on ditched her heels and cheerfully taken to walking around the reception barefoot. This was a party, wasn't it? And the grass felt entirely too pleasant under her feet to care if it was inappropriate. And, if she remembered correctly (which she did), she had more than earned her right to do as she pleased since the last time a wedding event had been associated with her brother and Maggie, she had gone far and beyond her call of duty as maid of honor. So! So--- Odette's train of thought broke as she let out something of a snorted laugh. Noah had managed to discreetly slip his hand underneath the slit in her dress and his finger tips were tickling her.

Not wearing heels also put the two of them back at normal height which made it inevitably easy for snogging. Which they were currently doing behind one of the many large trees surrounding the main area, because, well--- she wanted to. She was allowed to snog her husband, who, by the by, looked undeniably fit in his wedding attire.

So fit.

She parted her lips from his, pulling away to look at his face briefly. Her thoughts wandered to how it eased her to know that they could so easily do this, to more thoughts about grass, then---

"I am drunk," Odette let out, her brow lowering curiously at this revelation. Her hands dropped from Noah's face, and she propped her forehead into his shoulder with a free smile. Another laugh escaped her, but it was muted, as she found this observation to be a bit amusing.

"You are," Noah said with a laugh, his arms keeping tight around her waist. He was glad for the evening with Odette because it had been far too long before the two of them had a night where the only expectations of them were to show up and look nice. No orders to follow, no photographers to pose for, and though he loved them dearly, no children to chase around. It had been a very long time since they'd both been a bit lopsided because of some very good drinks, and he sure as hell could not recall the last time they'd snogged so thoroughly within such a close radius of other people.

He was really enjoying thoroughly snogging his wife.

Why had they stopped? Being drunk didn't mean you stopped snogging, it usually made it better, emotions heightened, every little touch and grab electrified the body and---yes, they should not have stopped. Noah's grip around Odette shifted to pull her up and back up against his chest. His hand moved to her back to keep her flush against his chest and he kissed Odette. Noah pushed his fingers through her hair, not at all finding it rude that he was man-handling his wife against a tree.

Mmhm his mouth made her head feel free and fuzzy. But in a good way, in such a good way because it let her just enjoy the moment, not thinking about... other people, or playoffs or anything else that remotely heaved her mind these days. It was just... Noah. And Odette liked that, it made her feel happy and light--- she was glad her fleeting thoughts were in fact so, or else some second-hand self embarrassment would have definitely taken over her for being so mushy.

And they were! So it was of no matter, and she was too entirely wrapped up in Noah's hands to even think twice about it. His hands, which were tugging and pulling in such a manner that it made her want to let out shrieks of laughter. Tease he was such a tease with his heavy hands but brushing touch. It just wasn't fair. Odette rose up on her toes, and her arm moved to fall behind over his shoulder as she pushed his lips back to his.

She could show him teasing.

After a few moments (no need to rush right away), Odette began to wiggle in Noah's grasp. And shift, slightly, and turn, until she had the opportunity to slip away from him. But before she did, she brought her free hand up to run along his bottom lip. She could show him teasing and had a better idea of what they could be doing. A pleased and sultry smile appeared on her lips, and quickly she let out a small laugh before twirling away.

But she turned back as she walked slowly, tossing her hair over her shoulder to look at him. Him, Noah, her incredibly intelligent and handsome husband. Husband! He was so smart, he would figure out what she was thinking. And, just for good measure, Odette pressed her index finger to her closed lips and smiled mischievously. She beckoned him forward, dipping her chin low.

"I have a better idea...."

They were in a garden weren't they? Why, just over there she could see a marvelously private set of trees a bit away from the gathering area.

Octavius

Nora really enjoyed weddings. She did! They were full of excitement of new adventures for the happy couple, people got all reminiscent and nostalgic over their own loves, and everyone always looked so nice. She was even able to get past the fact that the groom was an ex-boyfriend of hers and that her date was not her boyfriend who was over three thousand miles away, but the bloke she'd fancied for years whose ex-girlfriend had been spotted at this very same reception. She still found it in her to have herself a good time, and she was going to do her best to make sure that Octavius did as well.

She made her way back to their table after disappearing to figure out what sort of pixies and fairies they had floating around to create such a surreal decor. Nora grinned widely as she spotted Octavius and held up the two very long flutes of blue drinks she had in her hands. Tonight was about---laughing, smiling, maybe a bit of dancing, all to have a good time. Nora had been in a pretty good mood these past few weeks, and while Octavius was in a much better state than the last time she'd been at an event with him (wearing the same dress, she not so proudly added), she still had not done a very good job at making sure things were good. Better! That things were better!

"These are delicious," Nora said, handing Octavius the drink. She may or may not have already started sipping hers. It was a wedding, she was allowed to sneak a drink or two. "Cheers!"

"I really shouldn't," he said, eyeing the flute wearily. It had been clinically proven that Octavius Pepper and alcoholic substances were unmixy things to the utmost degree of unmixability. Granted, he was less of a mad person than the previous three months had caused him to be, but there was still a chance for insanity to take hold of him and have him stripping off his shirt and dancing on a table.

But his sister was making eyes at more blokes than he was comfortable with (the number he was comfortable with being Zero), so it was probably for the best if he un-sobered himself a little. "But—well, why not." He clinked his with hers before taking a healthy sip.

Octavius was eternally grateful Nora was coming and her insufferable boyfriend was still breaking curses in Libya, or Egypt, or wherever it was. As happy as he was that Rose and he were on a better footing, it took a much stronger man than he to actually be pleased to have to attend a wedding at which the same ex-girlfriend would be a guest. And he hadn't even been much of a wet rag!, he thought. Although it did strike him that this was the first wedding he'd been to since, apparently, his own. Barring, of course, the first attempted one of this in January, which didn't count. He was almost entirely sure it hadn't been real since Brunhild kept kissing his cheek and calling him Pepe Schatz, but who knew?

Sometimes, when work was too much, and his siblings and friends were being nuisances, he often thought of what it would have been like to have said, "No thanks, I'll just stay here with my new German wife and her farm," and raised livestock. He probably would have been expected to butcher some of them at some point, however, and promptly decided he didn't have the stomach for farming.

"You know, it's a shame you never met Brunhild," he said, setting his glass on a nearby table. "Sweet girl. I think. Made the best pancakes I've ever put in my mouth, bar none."

Nora eyed him carefully over the rim of her glass. She swallowed her drink, eyebrows high, "You tried her pancakes, hm?"

She laughed a little too much at her own joke and stretched out her legs to prop them up on the chair across the table from her. They'd been seated with Charlie and his girlfriend, but after some muttering and grumbles about how tight his tie was, Charlie had whisked away his fairy of a girl. Nora didn't mind their absence, it was actually helping her good mood, and she swirled the rest of her drink, making a whirlpool inside the glass.

Octavius' drunken excursion and marriage however was a topic that even Nora and Charlie could agree on. It wasn't funny or hilarious within the first few weeks after it all had gone down (for either of them, really, Nora had been rather silently miffed), but she believed and apparently so did Octavius, that enough time had passed to joke (lightly!) about the topic.

Though, really. Brunhild? Could she have been more German?

"I think you're going to have to start running women by me and Nona," Nora said with a quick nod, taking another drink. She pointed her glass at Octavius, looking quite impressed with this idea, "We'll make sure 'makes good pancakes' is on the list of requirements."

Arista!
[info]galvinized
2012-11-30 10:17 pm UTC (link)
Considering how miserably last year had ended, Galvin Gudgeon was feeling pretty good about himself. Ending what he thought could be a long-lasting relationship with Victoria had soured many a month, along with being unable to care for his goddaughter in the way that he'd been meant to. He wasn't a total slouch, he visited Ava and sent her weekly present of toys, flowers, balloons, and the like, but it had all made him realize that he had never gotten himself out of the mindset that he should be married and with children at this point in his life. Having it thrust upon him made Vinny see that while he thought he'd been ready for that commitment with Marlie all those years ago, it seemed so long ago, he really found that he was enjoying not having the responsibilities he thought he'd so desperately wanted.

His good, optimistic mood had of course been helped by his performance on the pitch. Vinny had been a bit slow to develop a kinship with the rest of the Falcons after being the first Catapult shucked out when they cleaned house last season, let alone the bloke who was traded for Captain Kangaroo, but Vinny believed he'd more than proved himself. It was as if he'd finally been given a real chance to show the world how good he really could be, and he was glad for it.

Two fingers went up to the bartender to signal another drink, and the sound of a stool scraping on the laid out floor of the bar area made him turn his head. Vinny grinned, leaning an elbow on the table to face Arista Sykes.

"You decided to come," he said, honestly surprised that she'd accepted his, or quite possibly her own, invitation. Vinny adjusted his tie, hoping that the knot was perfectly in place and he quickly smoothed his hand down his front.

She was just as surprised as he was by her presence. Though, objectively, for an injured player's first full season back, Arista had done much better than expected, she (and her camp) still took the Prides' fall to second place incredibly hard. That was also the reason she had every intention to decline this invitation. It was one thing to carry on with any old rival player; that was practically de rigeur now. But to have a… flirtation with the rival, who was responsible for separating one from the current top spot of the league? Who did that! That was asking for trouble.

Yet here she was. Asking for trouble.

"I wasn't entirely sure that I would," she admitted, staring hard at the bar to avoid a hearty blush, as, mortifyingly, that's what this man did to her. But she'd made the mistake of mentioning the invitation to Brianna, who said she simply had to go, she owed it to every girl in the house of Hufflepuff who'd ever crushed on Galvin Gudgeon to go. Of course, pointing out that she was not a Hufflepuff, nor had she gone to Hogwarts hadn't made any difference to her friend, and somehow she'd accepted instead of declined. "But… well," Arista gestured to their surroundings and gave a small shrug.

Judging it safe to raise her eyes and study him (blushing only a little!), she bit her lip before remembering that was unladylike and jerked her gaze back to the bar top. Part of the reason she'd come, aside from attraction and coercion, was curiosity. As nice as he was, as piqued as her interest was, and as god-like as Brianna claimed him to be, Arista could not shake the suspicion that there was some game at play, though what, exactly, she didn't know. She did know such snakes could hide behind well-dressed, handsome fronts.

"Thank you for asking me."

His eyes crinkled at the sight of her blush. Galvin was certainly intrigued by Arista Sykes, and though she had met him for that strategy-centric dinner a few weeks ago, it was still surprising to see that she was somewhat intrigued by him too. She was a seeker that was notoriously prim, proper, and prideful (he amused himself with that play on words), so grabbing her attention that day in his journal had been unexpected. Maybe she was simply very competitive and liked to prove she was the best or maybe she was fine with the friendly competition, since he'd pushed his team just past hers and she had still come to the party.

His confidence had grown quite a bit since joining the Falcons, but since his most recent heartbreak and the years worth of depression he was still plowing through, Vinny was a bit concerned that she might find him...slightly incapable of managing a date-like situation. Arista knew him to be a fierce competitor on the pitch, but as someone to keep on her arm all night? To take her onto the dance floor and not cause an embarrassment? Vinny liked to believe he'd be able to manage it.

"It was my pleasure," Galvin said, straightening up. It was, and he suddenly felt like the night wasn't going to be a complete waste. The bartender came back, but Vinny paid him no mind, having been struck once again by how very pretty she was. He looked her over in a tactful manner, shaking his head in disbelief, "You look amazing, Arista. I'm worried you may have to find a more fitting bloke to stand by your side."

Saoirse!
[info]howl
2012-12-01 02:50 am UTC (link)
Howell had no clue what he was doing here.

Well, logically, yes, he knew what he was doing here. He had an invitation. Although Adrian and he had only played together for a year and a half, he had come to look up to the Beater a lot. He dimly remembered Maggie from school, but on the few occasions they had met afterwards, he liked her a lot, though he wasn't sure he'd ever said a complete sentence around her. Still, it was nice that the couple wanted to reach out to their friends and teammates the way they did.

But if it hadn't been for Ralph and Miranda, there was no bloody way he'd have come. Parties usually meant conversation, which he wasn't very good at, and he couldn't cling to Ralph like a limpet the whole night, because he'd tried it before, and it was highly unsuccessful. So Howell had fully come with the intention of leaving early, after making sure Adrian and Maggie knew he had come.

And then he saw Saoirse.

It hadn't even occurred to him that she'd be here, partially because he'd promised himself he absolutely would not think about her after the unanswered owls and one memorable cold shoulder. If she wanted to pretend the summer had never happened, even though he'd been pretty much powerless to stop her from instigating it, then that was fine. He deserved better than someone who dismissed his very presence.

But boy, had he been thinking pretty incessantly about the fact that he wasn't thinking about her.

He almost said the hell with it and left as planned, but after he finished his drink, he couldn't do it. He'd just had one of the best seasons he'd ever played, because he had played the full season himself. They were entering the play-offs with a one-hundred-and-fifty point lead. He thought he had proved his worth enough to ask, no, demand some answers from her. So in what was probably the most unwise move of his life, he set his glass down at the bar, stiffened his shoulders, tapped her on the shoulder, and said, "Dance with me?"

Oh. Oh. Saoirse kept still, thinking it would be childish of her to react in any other sort of manner. Howell was not accosting her, or being rude, so the relative unsettling surprise she was currently experiencing was uncalled for. Actually, she realized quickly, what she was experiencing was entirely her own doing, and because of that, she blinked slowly and did not immediately shoo him away.

Howel Williams. He had been... he made her experience a mix of things. For while she did feel poorly about how rudely she had distanced herself him after that unfortunate run-in with his teammate, another equal part of her felt perfectly fine in doing so. The prospect of potentially going public with a relationship she wasn't entirely sure about was daunting, not to mention at the same time everything had been seeming to pick up with the team and she couldn't have the distraction of a boy, even one as incredibly attractive and unassuming as this one. It just hadn't--- the Arrows had barely made it through to the playoffs, and then with Ireland practices squeezed in wherever they could go, and moving into a new home, it had just... it had been very easy to simply ignore the attempts he made at contact.

But now he was here, standing in front of her, and Saoirse felt torn as to what to say. She held back the first response that came to mind ("Why?"), and then her second ("What are you doing?"), thinking that with how unceremoniously she had treated him, he deserved something politer than that. Then, her ever present defense of not wanting to give anyone anything to talk about kicked in, and she soundly decided the only answer she could give him was no. Not here, there were too many people....

But--- they were effectively no longer doing what they had been doing, so there wasn't much to feel tense or private about, was there? This thought alone struck a sound chord with Saoirse, and it eased her hesitant mind.

"Just this one song," she spoke calmly, rising from her seat and taking his hand. Just one.

Holy hippogr—He'd almost expected her to dismiss him. To his credit, none of his surprise or sudden panic at what the hell he was doing showed on Howell's face. He merely tightened his grip on her hand a little and led the way to the dance floor. He even pulled her to him quite smoothly, sliding his other arm around her waist as they stood close. It had definitely been a while since they'd done that.

If she'd rejected or ignored him, that would have opened the floor for a more… emphatic discussion, which is what he had been planning on, but she'd said yes. So he was at a loss for words. He supposed since it was a dance, he really shouldn't have been talking at all, but this was the only way he could make sure she would listen to him. And now that they were here, and he was standing this close to her again, he didn't want to say anything at all. They could just dance, and he could just enjoy the moment, couldn't he?

So, all right, perhaps he had thought about her a little more than simply thinking about not thinking of her.

"You look really beautiful," he finally told her, tilting his head forward so the small distance between them was bridged a little further.

He was a serious, boring sort of guy. Howell knew that. It had never bothered him overmuch, because look where being boring and serious had gotten him in life. But then this girl had tugged him behind a screen at some party and just laid one on him. Out of all the blokes there, all the better-looking, more talented wizards, she'd chosen him for… no reason at all that he could think of. And since then, he'd thought… maybe, just maybe, there was something interesting about him after all. Felt that for the first time, he might really be… what, funny, sexy, maybe even a little dangerous? A dynamic sort of person. Saoirse had to have seen something in him, hadn't she?

Well, "had" was the right word, anyway. And it would be an outright lie to say he hadn't been obsessing over just what it had been that changed her mind.

Sighing, because he knew he was about to ruin the moment, he tried not to grip her tighter as he asked, "If I ask you a question, a real one, do you promise—will you answer one question?"

Michal!

Seth was trying to enjoy himself at this party but he was finding it a bit hard. Not that Adrian's reception was a bad party, because it wasn't. It was super classy and had Maggie's good taste all over it. He just rather be at home. Between juggling practice with the Falcons for the play-offs and practice with the English team for the Eurp-Cup, Seth felt like he was never at home any more.

Which was taking a toll, because Leanne was getting older and smarter, therefore realizing just how much time her Dad was spending away from home. Just getting out the door for this party was a terrible sight. She had noticed him getting dress and went to on of her princess dresses he bought her and insisted she could come along too.

If Adrian hadn't been such a good friend to him for so long, Seth would have opted to taking Leanne out to dinner and bailing on the reception all together. It wasn't like he managed to get a date and standing around watching cute couples mingle and dance was not high on his list of his things to do.

He was sipping on his drink contemplating just how long after bidding the happy couple congratulations he had stay when Michal filled the space next to him. "Oh there you are, I've had all this witty commentary on party goers and no one to share them with."

"Excellent," Michal grinned, unceremoniously dropping himself in the empty chair next to Seth. Wedding receptions were great, one of the few social gatherings that he always enjoyed because they went one of two ways: either he didn't have a date, and had a whole selection of relatively influential group of witches to choose from, or he did have a date, which allowed practically full snogging, groping, etc. access at all times because how could you not at a wedding? And he enjoyed that.

He was very sure Therese enjoyed that too, or else she would have certainly slapped him for how progressively forward he'd gotten with her throughout the night.

But, they had separated for the time being, which Michal was perfectly fine with, because he did have other things to tend to. Like his miserable looking best friend, sitting lonesome like some awkward fifteen-year old that wasn't currently apart of the team in the number one spot going into the playoffs. What was that about? Seth should be celebrating. Or at least be enjoying what would be the last few hours of personal freedom, with how grueling playoffs were going to be this year.

Nope, unacceptable.

"Who's first?" Michal asked, kicking his feet up under the table and lounging his arm across the back of Seth's chair.

Seth glanced around the room, too many good moments had already passed, the humor in his comments going with them. For instance, he was pretty sure that Odette was just a little past drunk and that was entertaining right up until she had found her husband. Then, well, honestly Seth was glad when the disappeared from his sight into a line of trees. At least someone was having some fun.

Then there was Gudgeon and Sykes getting cozy by the bar. At first he was a bit disappointed to see that his invitation was turned down for his, but quickly decided it wasn't worth it. Seth liked Vinny a lot, and the Falcons had a great thing going on and he certainly wasn't going to ruin that over a girl.

And finally Howell and the tiny blonde from the Arrows. He had no idea how that even happened but it certainly was interesting to watch the interaction between the two.

"Well. I'm trying to decided who makes the more interesting couple, Vinny and Princess Pride," he started tilting his glass towards the bar before shifting his gaze to the dance floor, "or Howell and the bird from the Arrows. You think they will get us anything useful for the playoffs?"

Rose!
[info]thomases
2012-12-03 01:10 am UTC (link)
Thomas had his jacket strewn over his shoulder as he balanced along the foot high cement wall that separated a path and large rose bushes. The reception was a very nice time, but he'd forgone bringing Samantha along with him tonight because he knew his attentions would be elsewhere. Elsewhere being Rose, whom Thomas had tugged not-so-gently away from the main dining area when he'd spotted Pepper laughing with his friends at a nearby table. From what Thomas knew, the two were on amicable terms, but amicable for Rose and Octavius might mean that they didn't try to tear each other's clothes or head off.

Either or.

"So, where did Kendall say he was going?" Thomas asked, though he knew quite well where his other friend was. That was a whole other dilemma that Thomas was planning on keeping his nose out of until after playoffs.

He didn't know how he'd managed to have the easiest past few months out of the trio of friends, though he did suspect that being unable to perform magic for a good few weeks was enough to please the fates or karma or---whatever it was. Thomas was not going to complain about his lack of excitement. He already had enough to deal with after a week of housing Andrea Johnson and his constant surveillance of her extracurricular activities. She may not have caught the snitch in that final week, but she'd flown better than he'd ever seen her and Thomas could only feel good about making it into the playoffs.

And knocking out the Kestrels, but he would never utter that aloud. Kendall could probably hear him from his place on a beach towel. Thomas continued walking along the hedge, one arm out to keep balance as he kept up pace with Rose who was below.

"Fiji," Rose responded vaguely, looking up at the lights and decorations above them as they walked. This was one of the most beautiful functions she had ever attended, and with every new sight it had been an internal fight to not think about what had been planned the first time, if this was simply a secondary thought.

Or, perhaps, she was merely looking for a way to further torture herself, for the fact that it was at the falling apart of this union that perversely set the scene for her and Octavius deciding to get back together. That was something her mind would let her forget. But, she felt she was doing an excellent job in simply ignoring it. Just like how she was ignoring how it seemed that all the people in the entire world who had the ability to make her feel severely uncomfortable were all present at this party. Ignoring that too. All going well on that front.

Though, she knew that this uncharacteristically steadfast line of thought of hers was not something she could brag as all her own. Thomas' constant presence, without a doubt, was the reason why she was walking and talking properly and not in a pitiful ball under the table, hiding until it was polite enough to leave. It eased her heavy thoughts to know at least he was capable of helping her feel relatively normal. She was grateful.

That could not be said, she thought bitterly, for their absent friend. And Rose knew that she was being unfair concerning this issue, but with Kendall gone and her one attempt to talk to him confusingly thwarted, she felt a bit of hostility. It also did not help that he was currently on vacation, a place she decided when he announced his traveling attentions, she would rather to be.

"Have you talked to him recently?" she asked idly, looking up to watch Thomas walk the wall.

Thomas shook his head. Their friend needed time to clear his mind from the muck that had been driving him up the wall. He wished he had not been so busy these past few months, that he and Kendall would have had more time to spend being, well, friends like they used to. Thomas had of course known how much more time being a captain would take up, what with scheduling and management, press and having to actually speak at press conferences. The decision making alone had given him a few grays, let alone the late nights and early mornings. Maybe he simply hadn't had the energy to exert into something like a therapy session, especially with all the dramatics Rose had been going through as well.

He reached the corner of the wall and decided to sit down, draping his jacket along the edge, "Here, sit," he said to Rose.

Not only had Rose needed him tonight, but attending weddings together had become something of a tradition between them. Neither of pair were very good at handling the idea of a life-long commitment such as a marriage and having someone who understood you helped subdue the anxieties only a Ravenclaw could conjure. All the different ways it could go wrong, so many possibilities that could lead to a life time of anger and bitterness. How was it possible to know you would want to be with a person until you died? That decision was so very daunting and the idea of it have some sort of foundation had never even flickered in Thomas' mind. Maybe he was meant to become a crotchety old man.

At least he knew Rose would be there to understand his unconventional thoughts on one of humanity's oldest and most lasting institutions. He just didn't think it made much sense!

"Marriage is weird," he said, face scrunching a bit as he thought on it some more. "It's weird. Not like you even need to be married to have babies anymore, either." Thomas ducked his head slightly, fearing Maggie would be able to hear him from the opposite end of the reception. They could barely hear the festivities from where they'd wandered off to, but his former teammate was notorious for her temper.

RICH! :*

Delilah loved loved loved weddings. The pretty dresses. The men looking fine in sharp dress robes. The flowers. The romance. Maggie and Adrian looked so happy together and it made Delilah's heart melt just a little. She hadn't stopped grinning since they had arrived.

Of course it helped that she had such a handsome man on her arm. Which could prove potentially problematic as she noticed that Scott's sister was also in attendance. Maggie would murder her if anything would happen at her party, and Delilah would never forgive herself if she caused a scene. So she spent half the night expertly steering herself in Rich in the opposite direction chattering on about the decorations and flowers because she honestly did not trust herself with another encounter. She was close to hexing her the on the last run in, and that was just after rumors of her being with Rich. She didn't want to see the reaction to a run in with him actually at her side.

"Dance with me?" Delilah asked taking both of Rich's hand into hers pushing all other thoughts aside, giving up on keeping track of who was where. It was a waste of such a good party.

Jeremiah was never ever listening to Miles ever again. The first time Miles had offered his advice, Jeremiah as a bit suspicious as to why. Yes they were teammates now, but he wouldn't have been surprised if Miles held a bit of a grudge at first.

So far he'd been pretty helpful. Solid teammate, great friend. Up until today that was. Take her into a garden maze, he said. It will be fun, he said. Miles didn't tell him that getting lost was a very real possibility. And he wasn't even at this party so Jeremiah couldn't even bitch at him when he found his way out. Who in their right mind assumed there was going to be a maze at a garden party. It should have been a warning sign.

Being lost stressed him out. He felt bad for making Victoria miss the festivities and he was quickly running out of topics to talk about. And since they were currently lost in a maze, he couldn't even fall back on talking about other guests, or going to get drinks.

Jeremiah turned around throwing his hands up in defeat. "So I have no idea how to get out here." he admitted. "I am sorry."

Victoria couldn't say that this was a situation that had ever come up for her before, but that didn't mean it was all that unpleasant -- except for the fact that poor Jeremiah seemed to be getting a little more worked up than she was. She managed a slight smile and dropped down onto the grass, deciding to sit since they were going to be stuck in the maze for at least a little while longer.

"Oh, don't be sorry. I mean, I've never been stuck in a hedge maze before. Corn maze? Sure. Hay maze? Plenty of times. This is a new one, though." She wasn't going to be too stressed out. It was sort of cute the way Jeremiah was acting, anyway. Like a little flustered rabbit.

"Why don't you come sit down? It'll probably help us, you know, think."
