WHAT'S UP, EVERYONE? this is my first time posting here, and i'm new to the game, but i'm looking for some intelligent writers to hopefully give me some insight on something that has been plaguing me as of lately. when it comes to romantic storylines, do you find it easier to live in pre-planned storylines, or more organic storylines? or does the way the storyline is developed have no effect on whether you live or not? for some reason, i have such a difficult time living in pre-planned storylines no matter how much i want the line to work out. does anyone else have this problem, or am i just special?

i've had difficulty in both, tbh. i've had organic lines fizzle because the other writer and i didn't click and i've had pre-planned lines flourish because we did. and the other way around. half of my battle is getting comfortable enough with a writer to play out a romantic line, which is admittedly harder for me in pre-planned lines, if only because the characters haven't interacted at all before that moment (usually). but that being said the last couple of pre-planned romantic lines i've had have been incredible, because i was very, very lucky to find slps who were as invested and as interested in the characters, and the line, as i was. but i've definitely had more experience in wanting a pre-planned line to work out just to have it vaporize. so idk. in my case i think it's totally the luck of the draw.

i'm glad you were able to have some luck with pre-planned storylines! i think you hit the nail on the head as far as my pre-planned woes go, it's harder to play them out because there has been no interaction up until then. i'm big on chemistry when it comes to romantic storylines because they require more interaction, and you can't force chemistry. depending on the writer, and how much writing we do, i'm usually able to get into it, but when the planning and details outweigh everything else, i tend to feel too bogged down to get into it. i usually to give it some time to see if things naturally develop, but more often than not, i have to tell the writer it's just not working out. i fear i'm going to have to do the same thing soon, and i'll inevitably feel bad for "flaking" on the writer.

i can never ever ever live in preplanned romantic lines, whether it's with a new writer i found on pbads or with writers that i've known for a long time. i need that chemistry there, and the only way to get it is organically, at least for me. and i love finding it in the most random places, between the most random people. and outside of the character chemistry, i also need my writing to mesh with the other writer's. and, it's odd because, even when i try to do preplanned romantic lines with an established slps (people with whom i've HAD a long-lasting romantic sl previously), the writing chemistry itself could be different when we are playing a different pair of characters.

i have no idea who you are, but i seriously love you??? i'm huge on chemistry too, and i feel like it has to happen organically for me to find that amount of chemistry. things have to develop on their own, i can't develop them or make my guy feel any which way. although, there have been times i sure would have liked to! i've never tried to do pre-planned romantic lines with an established slp until i joined ~click. she doesn't read these types of journals, so i'm not too worried she'll see, even though i guess she'll be finding out soon anyway, haha. anyway, we had a 3-year on-again-off-again storyline between our celebs and the chemistry was explosive, but transferring it to pb hasn't started off too well and i couldn't understand why. i was like, well, we're the same writers and the history has been altered, but it's pretty much the same. but no matter how much i tell myself that, it still feels so forced. :(

hahah it's like we share a brain. as for that last part about transferring a similar line with the same slp, i really do think it's up to the characters. and... i don't know, it's just the fact that it is ultimately a different line, even if it's the same slp, the same writing styles, and very similar characters/histories. it really is strange to think about, but i've definitely been there.

haha, even though it's a sad situation, i'm kind of glad i'm not the only person who's been through something like this. thank you for droppin' your knowledge on me. i love and adore the sl as our celebs, but i think i just need to spread my little pb wings here at ~click and just have fun with it.

definitely do that! maybe i've just had bad pb experiences in the past, but ~click really is a breath of fresh air. i had pretty much no response to my sl post right before i joined, but the moment i got in, everyone's been so friendly, and all of that interaction went beyond just commenting in my intro. maybe once you get a grasp of your character, the line you came in with would flourish along with everything else.

see, that's the thing. i felt like i had a really good grasp on my character, and then i approached the writer about maybe her bringing someone in too (not about transferring our line, but after discussing joining, we figured we'd give that a go). i was really, really excited about ~click. then we started planning out the storyline and i don't know if it was all the details, or what, but i started feeling really dragged down by it all. there were a few days where i avoided logging in because it meant awkward interaction with the sl, and not awkward interaction because of drama, just awkward interaction because they don't click (badum chhh -- no just kidding, no pun originally intended). even tonight, i was having fun commenting around and stuff, until the sl came up and i just got really down about staying in ~click. i won't drop because i already love the lines i have, and everyone is super entertaining and so friendly. it's just a tough spot because if i drop the sl then we won't write together anymore since we both "retired" the celebs we played, but at the same time, i really want to enjoying living here, and i'm not so sure how much i will if i have to force myself to interact in the sl.

hmmmm.. that's interesting. i know that a line that doesn't really click can drag you down, i've definitely been there before, but never as bad as wanting to drop the character itself. maybe give it some time? do you think the other write feels this way? if i know i have a good enough rapport with my slp, i'd just come clean with it and be like, hey, maybe we should sorta be a little laid back on them for a bit, and see how it goes. maybe it's just because it's new, and yeah, it definitely might be the planning, too. that you overplanned it, as terrible as that might feel. maybe sort of find a way to take it slower, and don't even have the chars comment each other for a couple days even if they see each other on the fpage?

OH HELLO. to answer your question, i had a lot of success with pre-planned storylines way back in the day, but now they tend to fall through more often than not. it's difficult to keep them going sometimes. i've been out of gameplay for a few months now because the pre-planned storyline thing was just crap, and ~click is really the first game that i've been good with more organic lines and it's working out really well!

haha, yes i am! i'm a bit of an old lady this summer because once it gets to midnight, i'm like PEACE OUT, but i'm trying to work my way back into the typical fucked up uni student sleep schedule, rofl. yeah, sometimes they work because you've got the rapport with the other player, but sometimes the characters just don't end up working. i know that ash (and daisy, for that matter) changed a great deal from what i had originally planned, so if i had a pre-planned romantic line for her, it probably would have failed. :X

lmao my sleep schedule was already messed up, and then i went to a university and it was completely demolished. i still haven't been able to recover! at this point, with less than a month before i have to return to my college, i really don't think it will recover, either. see, that's what i'm afraid of! bo has developed a lot since i originally thought of his backstory. i'm really excited to see in what other ways he'll change, but i'm afraid the pre-planned storyline with no chemistry will either kill any motivation i have to stay around, or alternatively, cramp room for growth.

i used to sleep four hours a night and i was fine, and then i went to university and i'm like SLEEP I WANT TO SLEEP except my field of study makes me get about four hours of sleep anyway, lmfao. it's the worst... and last semester i didn't have a lab so it wasn't as bad, and i got used to sleeping six hours a night. i'm in for a shock next month!

and i totally understand that. if you think it isn't going to work, maybe talk to your slp about it? i think bo is already really fun and i'm glad that you were open to a bff line because ash is lost without her best friends, really, so it'd be really sad if you lost motivation!

god, labs are the worst. i had a 7:30 am lab last spring semester. never again, my friend. NEVER. AGAIN. what's your field of study? gosh, i slept SO much when i returned home. the week before finals, otherwise known as "dead week" at my university, was so brutal. they call it "dead week" because we're not supposed to be issued new material, but i honestly think it's because they want to see how many students they can kill. from sunday night to thursday afternoon, i only had 13.4 hours of sleep under my belt. the .4 is because i took ten-minute naps in the computer labs and would tell my friends to wake me up. this next semester, coffee is going to be my best friend, and i'm going to be like, "sleep? WHAT'S THAT?"

ultimately, i think that's what is going to happen. it's a sticky situation, so i'm not looking forward to it by any means, but i really want to live at ~click. so, it looks like i have to put on my big girl pants and just do it. at least i know now it's not something that i only have a problem with, though! so, i feel a little bit better about that.

I can't do pre-planned romantic storylines. I love the surprise of organic development and having no idea where it's going to go. That's half the fun of it! So yeah, I have the same problem.

yes! that's exactly how i feel. i really enjoy that part of the storyline, too, where the characters begin getting to know each other and allowing that to take its course.

i second couten here. it's 50/50, because i think it depends on your slp and how good the characters mash.

what do you do if the characters don't mesh? how long do you wait until you let the other writer know it's not working out?

the way i see it, it all really comes down to the characters and if they have chemistry. i prefer romanic sls to happen organically because it's just more fun for me that way. it may take some more time but it kind of allows me to learn more about my character in the process, if that makes sense.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

no, that makes complete sense! it definitely allows you to learn more about your character and address things you may have never would have thought to cover, otherwise.

i'm kinda like that too, so you're not alone! i prefer organic lines, but sometimes i'm not opposed to certain pre-planned scenarios, like exes who may or may not be over each other so if the chemistry is right, a romantic line could come out of it but if we/our characters don't click, there's no real harm done, or something like that. if it's a line like jumping into an established relationship or something where the characters are definitely supposed to be into each other, i basically can't function. i mean, i probably could, but i think a big part of a line's success depends on how well the characters click, and to me, that initial chase aspect of an organic romantic line is a great indicator of whether or not they do and you generally don't really get the same thing with a pre-planned line. they just seem like a bigger gamble to me because you never know about the characters' chemistry until they interact.

ahhh, yes! another person who gets it. i'm the exact same way when it comes to pre-planned established relationship lines when the two don't click, i shut down. i start to feel cramped creatively. i've always wondered if it were because i'm ADHD and maybe i could only live in storylines that weren't pre-planned because there's not as much of an element of surprise that would keep me interested, but it's really nice knowing people grapple with the same issues and some just can't survive in established relationship sls when they're pre-planned.
