Uchiha Itachi [Part 02]
[info]uchihaitachi
2009-06-19 12:26 pm UTC (link)
Background History:

Every child has a foolish dream that seems to easy to obtain no matter how much they are told it would never happen. You want to be something ridiculous like a astronaut or a stunt driver, all realistic jobs that could happen later in life but most of the part, it was only going to be a childhood dream and would be forgotten over the years to move onto more grounding occupations. Itachi wasn't without his own, just like the other kids, he too wanted to strive for something that seemed so far out of his grasp.

His family was not rich at all, living meagerly in a small fishing village that only source of income was hard work and the tourists that would come by for the surf. Not much chance of advancement there for anyone unless they were wanting to run something like a deli to bring in the business from the tourists. It was work or starve. Harsh but that was it. Dreams of wanting to be a fireman or a police officer were squandered when you were looking at the bowl of unflavored rice in front of you, the only place you were going to end up was going to be down at the docks out on the trawlers dragging in fish nets and gutting the catch for others to enjoy. Advancement was never encouraged, although dreams were always there to keep the spirit alive, it would in the end be crushed with the harsh slap of reality.

Itachi must have been the only child in his year that was actually excited when mandatory schooling started, eager to get in there to find something to fill the void in his life of what he thought was missing, thinking that it could be found within education. Then once again that harsh reality kicked in when he arrived with missing school books and second hand copies, mocked and ridiculed by kids and frowned down upon secretly by teachers when they had to put in the extra work to make copies of the pages he needed to see him up to speed with the rest. Most of them were in the same boat as him, their parents worked out on the land or sea spending countless hours in manual labor only bringing home a petty wage but they chose to target him. Maybe that was because he did not fight back about it. Itachi just accepted it as life but it still did not squash the dream inside of his head that he wanted to bring true.

He was going to find a way to get a decent job where he could provide for his parents and brother so they would not have to suffer anymore.

His mother would tell him stories to help promote that dream, that not all people born into the Uchiha family were dirty poor. There was one group that were highly successful at what they did, so much that they had moved away from the cramped, smog filled life of Japan to lead more of a productive life in America. He had no idea if it was true or not or if it was just a morality booster given by Mikoto to let him know that there was more out there than this but Itachi held her word and wanted to strive to be like them. If they could do it then so could he. He had no clue about any Uchiha outside of them, not even knowing if he had uncles and aunts even, whoever they were, he hoped that he could set the example based from them and free everyone from this hell.

Not everyone held the same standard as he did to succeed, some were out for the quick fix.

That was when the men showed up. It did not take a genius to work out that there was something suspicious to why them of all people out of the village, was chosen for something so prestigious and life changing. Why were they offered the opportunity where there were others who could fulfill the position? To be given the chance to go over to America to learn to study and work, to give them the chances that they would miss out on in their current living state. That dream seemed to good to be true.

His first thought was of that family in America that might have heard about them and been some kind of good Samaritan but that was quickly dismissed. As a twelve year old, he could tell that there was something nefarious about them. Maybe it be mannerisms, the way they were noticing their young delicate looks although being put through working on the land with their parents, the particular attention being put to Sasuke with him being offered the chance to go alone. It didn't sit right with Itachi.

After they had left with the guarantee that they would return in a couple of days for their decision, he overheard his parents talking about what they were going to do. There was doubts there but then came in the point where they wanted to assure that their boys would have a good future. Itachi did not want to believe this. He burst into the room and yelled at them for even considering it, the first and only time that his temper had been flared towards them or anyone else. Family is supposed to stick together no matter what. They are to see each other through the good times and bad, be the pillar of support for one another and never let anything get them down. They told him that he was too young to understand it, that they had shielded them from most of the hurt and suffering and they couldn't take them down with them when there was opportunities for them to strive. They could tell that Itachi was a gifted child, now he would have the chance to flourish and obtain everything he always dreamt about.

And that was it. They said their goodbyes to each other. Itachi's didn't. That day, he felt a part of his die inside of him. Too bad that it was only the first of it.

They had acted kindly enough towards them on the way over, given new clothes, a good cooked meal and all the bells and whistles welcoming them into the new family they had created. Itachi still did not have any trust for them at all so whenever they came close to his brother, he would cling and pull him away, permanently attached at the hip making sure that he was safe. Maybe that is why they took the plan of action they did, for what they had planned for them both was not going to allow an overprotective brother in the mix of it all. It was a hard pry to get the two of them released from each other, caught out after they had landed when they had been separated for only the briefest of moments, snatching up Itachi who put up one hell of a fight kicking and screaming, having to take it one step further that had him later on waking up in a room somewhere with no sight of his brother. This one had spirit in him, the worst pathetic trait to protect his family so what better way to crush it by telling him the truth. That was the first time he had ever been truly scared not for himself but for his brother, put into place with the threat against his life if he did not comply to what they wanted. It was the first and only time that he had cried himself to sleep.

The life of luxury was far from that. The next day he was transported to another location, not even sure if it was even the same state he had started in and then he was dumped with a new set of people and none of them spoke Japanese. Itachi was not the only one there as well, the place of the rejects that the other side did not want were forced into manual labor contracted out to people who would pay for their assistance. Construction building, farm work, production line, they travelled in groups together to do the shit jobs that no one wanted to touch and would rather pay some immigrant low wages to do it for them. Of course, the money made from it they never saw.

He began to learn at a rapid rate that it was futile to fight back against them, hold still and just squeeze your eyes shut, grit your teeth until punishment was over, the smallest little thing would set them off. Itachi had worked with broken bones, deep gashes that still seeped for days afterward, barely able to stand after some of the most despicable acts you could put a child through but it still never crushed him. He just got smarter knowing just to lie there and take it until they were satisfied that his lesson had been learned, let them treat you like a mangy dog that would some way just avoid being put down for another day.

So why not escape? When you were in an open area with the chances of running were greater than being enclosed then why would you not do it? Some tried and did not make it, shot on sight by the ones keeping the close eye on them. Getting out was impossible unless it was via suicide.

All different races and cultures thrown together without so much of a chance to communicate with each other, different languages that spoke except for some of the older ones that had picked up English either along the way or were taught prior to arrival. Those ones Itachi learned were the nicer ones of the group, the mother hens that looked out for them. The first words of English that he had learned were the racial retorts thrown at him, associating them with hateful intentions when they were yelled at him. Those words he knew how to avoid. Quietly at night he listened to the others talking detecting and learning all that he could as he was not going to live this life forever, idly dreaming to escape from this nightmare and find his brother but where would they go? Under all circumstances, he had felt betrayed by the mother and father that he loved and vowed never to return to them or to Japan. In his mind, they had both died the day they sent them away.

Then came the hope that they were all wishing for. Itachi was 14 when they came, yelling and screaming at the men who held them captive, pointing weapons at them sending the place into chaos. Everyone was fleeting trying to get away from both of them, one of the others explaining to them that they were some kind of military force here and that if they were captured then they would send them back home. Most of them relished the idea of being returned to the land they were taken from but Itachi was not at all wanting it to go that way. There was a handful of them that managed to escape from the commotion and make a break for freedom, sticking together on the run until one by one they separated to find their own way until Itachi was left on his own. He continued to move upwards from city to city, sneaking rides searching for any signs of his brother without any real confirmation of if he was even alive. He was just blindly wandering unsure of what he was looking for anymore, lost, alone, unknowing of anything around him. Even though he was confined to that place, at least they had provided them with the minimal conditions needed to successfully function.

Everything seemed to go by as if he was running in auto pilot, somehow ending up in Reno confronted by some unsavory people who did not like where he had chosen to settle down for sleep one night. They taunted him about his feminine looks, the long hair that had not been cut for so long confusing them at first thinking that he was a girl and not at all happy when they found out that he was not. Those racial comments were yelled at him again that clicked him back to those men, knowing that whatever he had done wrong had made them react badly to him, trying to run but he was weak from living off whatever nutrition he could salvage from the most unsavory places since living on the run. Itachi had no idea that they were going to kill him, even stood still thinking it would be the same as before, they would get it over and done with and then leave him alone but these guys were not trying to keep the investment running, they were happy just to leave him dead in an alley.

Time lost once again, waking up being watched over by what was one of the familiar faces from before. One of the older girls they had ran with had found their way there and met up with some others that she knew. It was just his luck that they were able to save him from his impending doom. She explained to him about their role in this place, the work that was available for him, helping him to recover from injuries helping him progress further in picking up the native language that he was going to need. People would easily hire under the table when they knew they could get them cheap, this time it would be money that they would be able to keep for themselves to start forging a real life where they could become self sufficient. Reno looked to be the place he was destined to stay in, to start making a life for himself. With the help of herself and others, Itachi studied hard with what little resources they had to become proficient enough in English to get him into the work place, with more than enough skills to communicate with people verbally and just enough written to understand the more important things that an employer would be asking for.

Itachi was 15 when he got his first real job, hired by some rich guy's associate along with a couple of others into a cleaning job. Five days a week he would clean their giant house while the others gardened and cooked, making this guy's life easier which he actually never saw. Must have been more than trusting it he was going to let a bunch of illegal immigrants freely roam around his place with open access to anything they might have wanted to grab. Some tried and got fired, Itachi was not stupid enough to take from the hand that fed him but his curiosity on who this person was started to grow over time. A quick peek here, most of the stuff was left out in the open so he did not really mean to pry, the first glimpse of the person... well people, that hired him came in the form of a photo with the two of them together. They were Japanese too.

That stupid story that his mother had told him slowly started to creep back into his head about the ones over in America that made it, chuckling inwardly at his own naiveness of thinking that he would actually come across them, let alone be working for them. How much of the worlds population was Asian? A hell of a lot so no, there was no chance that he would ever stumble across them. Or so he thought. It was an accident that he knocked the paperwork onto the ground, caught up in his own thoughts not paying attention to what he was doing scattering everything over the ground. Quickly he tried to put everything back into how he found it when one word caught his attention, dropping the papers again. Uchiha. That name was right there in front of him along with a lot of other words he didn't understand but it was clearly Uchiha. He could read his own surname. At first, he thought it was something about him, looking around to make sure no one was watching him while he scanned back over them. Maybe it was something about his brother, this could have been what he needed to find him.

Madara...? That was not someone he knew. His mother never gave away the first names of those in the family.

His interested were piqued more than ever now. It was completely stupid to do this, this could get him fired or worse, deported but he craved to find out more. From time to time he seen them around the house, hiding behind walls peeking around to watch them, observing, listening out for anything that gave him an indication on who they were. But what it they were? He couldn't just very well go up to them and say hi, I might be related to you because why would they care? More so, he couldn't confide in them anyway. It was some pointless dream that had long since changed over the course of the years to now just wanting to be part of something, not have to live with the fear of being sent back without his brother, to end up dead in an alleyway. He just wanted to belong somewhere.

Finally he did slip up, confronted not by one but both of them to why he was snooping around the place. Looks like he was being watched after all. It was the end of the line for him now, there was only one place he was going and that was back to Japan, not in it for sympathy or anything else but years of running, being forced into living like a dog, it all got the better of him and he told them everything. It didn't matter anyway, America wasn't his home after all. Itachi was just a simple kid from a fishing village that was never meant to amount to anything. There was only one thing left to do and that was to wait for some officer to come knocking on the door once again to chase them all out once again to be back on the run except that time didn't come. What he was told next did not sink in for a good couple of hours.

They told him they were going to adopt him. Adopted? Him? To why they decided to do that was well beyond him, finding out during the course of discussions with lawyers and so forth that his parents were dead that gave them the grounds to pursue this without interference on their behalf. If it was true he wasn't sure but they were dead to him anyway, for some reason they saw him fit enough to take him in and allow him to live life like a regular teenager would. It took a while for him to adjust to it all but changes had to be made, even to the drastic point of going to the bathroom one day, taking scissors to his matted length of hair cutting it off short, now clearly he would not get confused in gender. Once it was finalized and official he was able to enroll in school, taking specialty courses to learn English up to standard, now at the level where he can continue onto higher learning.

Still to this day he does not understand why Madara and Izuna decided to take him in, if they were really family or just hold the same last name, if they are using him for something. Guess a kid would make a great tax deduction so their reason is their own and Itachi is grateful to them no matter what. Dreams of a child were never realistic anyway. It's time for him to make new ones for himself. Time to move on with his life.

Personality, Likes & Dislikes:

Itachi has always been naturally quiet and withdrawn, not the type of person who would strike up a conversation with someone just for the hell of it. He prefers to have his alone time away from people after being used to being independent so it takes him a while to get used to the company. You have to remember that every person he had held close to him was taken away or tossed him away so it's hard to rely upon someone when they could just disappear. Yet over it all, he does not complain or whine about anything. The past is a very touchy subject for him that he had dedicated from eradicating within his mind, ignoring that is ever existed looking forward to the future than to constantly dwell in it.

He rarely has any dominating opinions on subjects, going along with everything indifferent to it, accepting it. In the rare occasion where he it is something that he feels out of place then he will speak up, otherwise, he likes to linger in the background so he is not noticed. A trait he learned come in handy back when he was younger. Whatever he undertakes being work or other, he will always put himself into it 120% to challenge himself and to prove his usefulness, never doing anything half assed. If you want him to do something for you as long as its within limitations and you don't abuse the privilege then just say that Madara or Izuna told him to do it. They are the two people that he is the most dedicated to but this wasn't a bond that was instantly formed, no no no. There was a plot of progression to get to this point and mainly was in the area of trust.

To gain the trust of Itachi, you better be willing to put in a lot of time and effort into getting to know him, understand him. He will not open up to anyone unless it is in a place where he knows you are someone who is going to stay around, maybe be a friend in the long run, something more than a person that he passes every so often in the halls or outside of the office environment. If he even detects one slight hint of distrust in you or that you are faking your way to becoming close to him for some kind of personal gain then he will just clamber up and tighten the barrier he has up around himself to make sure that you are not going to penetrate through. But everyone makes mistakes. Depending on the severity of the offense, if you are close enough then give him some time to process what has happened to work through and sort any emotions that arise from it and he will probably forgive you. On the slight off-chance that you are able to get through to him and gain that trust then he will certainly look out for you although it may seem that he is not much, Itachi will do anything that is necessary to protect the people he is close to and it does not matter what he needs to do, he will find a way to do it just to make sure that the others are safe. Think of it as if you were standing on the middle of the street and an out-of-control truck is hurdling towards you without the chance to break in time, then he will throw himself in front of it without any hesitation at all regardless if it is going to mean death.

One of the first quirky traits of Itachi's that you may pick up is that he has an unbelievable sweet tooth. He adores sweets and feels unbelievably happy when he is able to get some, not that he is stuffing down on them 24/7. He has control just like any other food and won't regularly go and buy it but there are times where he has the most extraordinary cravings for it, like a pregnant woman who wants to eat those funky combination of sweet foods with whatever they can get their hands on. Sure, this is not exactly normal for someone and it came with an actual reason, later found out in the recent years of his life. The start of it was traced back to when he was born, starting with the irritable baby who cried for no reason. The remedy was shoving him to the teat and letting him drink. Moving further through childhood came the times when he would come back from being out with his father feeling really sick, light headed, dizzy, shaking, and of course Mikoto would usher him down to the table and give him some juice for some rest with the explanation that he would feel better afterward. Periods like this moved through his life where he would feel ill and then after getting something to eat or drink the symptoms would go away. It should have been clear to what he had only that it took one diligent doctor who ran 101 tests on him after he passed out during a morning run to determine exactly what the cause was. Itachi has hypoglycemia, a condition where too much insulin is released into his body lowering his blood sugar levels to the point where it starts to mess with the body if not taken care of so if he randomly asks you out of nowhere for a strawberry custard tart while shaking like a druggie from withdrawal then make sure you get him one before he passes out.

There aren't many things that he likes as he has not had the chance to experience most things in life to make the decision of that but there is a few that he enjoys such as finding quiet places to read or be alone with his thoughts, curling up in a window seat watching the rain, studying and learning more about English and American culture. One thing also comes to mind on something that he like... sort of... well, it was something that helped contributed to his job and that is cappuccino art. It all started during his morning routine of bringing wake up coffee to Madara to which either in his hangover or some other hate for the morning, he said it was not cute enough. Strange, very strange so he had researched into coffee and what could be classified as cute, coming across the art form and presenting it for him. The response was better than before so the rest was history. Now Madara and Izuna have their own personalized coffee made for them each morning by him. Also because of this skill he has gathered a legion of fan girls who come by and order coffee and sweets from the cafe, for what reason he doesn't know why they come around so he just ignores them.

Sample Post:

First Person

The first time I had been inside the building I wanted to know what was on the roof. It was not like it was forbidden, just never explored. The more times I walked past the door that lead up there the more I wished to see for myself, even if there was nothing, I had to know. It took a while to bring myself to do it, eventually I folded, opening the door up to the pitch darkness of night moving forth into unknown territory, unsure of what would be there or if it was safe.

Lights brightly mapped out the way to the center for something I did not know, something else that I should concern myself with just that it was there for a reason. Taking that first step out into the open I had been hit with a fero...phero... heavy wind that almost knocked me off my feet, like a wind tunnel blowing straight through free from other obstacles that would come from standing below. My footing was discovered before long back steady again, slowly pacing around in circles once I had made my way out to the middle, looking at the cityscape around. It was breathtaking. The lights, the colors, never have I seen such beauty of the city, appearing nothing like this below. No cars, no people, besides the howls of the wind passing by, it was almost silent.

A dangerous move I know it was but yet I wanted to get closer, to the edge of the building I went finding the edge of the wall to sit on. It was quite a jump up but yet I made it with ease, sitting up higher than the world looking down upon them all. Not a person could be seen in the dead of night, too high to make out the figure, to small to care. Cars were only a blurry along the streets reflecting the colors of the neon signs, life moved by fast as I seemingly stood still and that was when I wondered.

Looking out towards the horizon my thoughts turned to him. What would he be thinking if he was up here by my side enjoying the view? Would it feel so lonely? Would he have even care to lay his eyes on this? All I wish to know if he is alive, if he is dead, something to give the answers to the endless questions I have ask myself time and time again. If we did meet again would he recognize me or would be know me? Have we changed? I have read that people believe that if you have a bond with someone so strong that you will know inside, feel them, understand when they are in pain or happy without being face to face. If they are gone, you will feel the hole inside. It will tear at your soul, your heart, an eternal emptiness that can not be filled.

I hate to say this but I do not know if I can continue searching for you endlessly, wondering if I am one step behind, too late, many times we could have crossed paths and did not notice. This is why I have not moved from here since, I an content to where I am. My life has taken direction towards the future just I had hoped, just as I hope that yours has finally done the same.

Yet I will still be waiting here for you, up high watching so...

だから, サスケに早く帰ってください。

Third Person

3.30PM. This was the time of day when everything got severely busy.

There was a normal flow of people through the day coming in for their breaks to get whatever drink or snack panged them at the time, serving them quickly and efficiently to see them on their way and keep the grumbles to a minimum. Mornings were also on the high impact times for the missed breakfast and the pick me up caffeine hit to see them through to the next break, this time they were usually whiny when it took too long to get their drinks out, telling him that he was wasting their valuable time by standing around for that couple of minutes while the milk heated, the coffee was brewed and the sugar was added. The portable lid placed on top of the cups would save them from a mess down their shirt after running into someone or not paying attention while they were slurping should have been at least waited for but even that was too long. When they did split it, he could expect them back later on yelling for the mess that he created and should have been doing a better job by offering the lid in the first place. This was probably why he did not understand people well. To say one then and then take it back, it was confusing as all hell but after a couple of minutes of yelling without any response in return, facial movement or otherwise, they tend to give up and then go along with their day.

At least he could say this time of the day was less stressful, however, more strange. Majority of the people lining up at the counters were young teenage girls fresh from school wanting to lavish themselves in the speciality of the place, and that wasn't just the coffee.

Milk down into the cup swirling it around to make the white foam centered and focused in the middle of the cup, out with a toothpick crinkling the scowl of concentration across his brow. There was more people here today than usual, seemingly increasing in numbers every day with more people packing the place out so time was of the essence. Stick dipped into the creamy soft fluffy foam and pushed outwards to start the template of what he was designing, moved around into the darker liquid floating on top making the patterns that were slowly starting to form a figure. When you were in deep thought you could easily block out what was being said behind you, talk of every day conversation, what teacher said what, scandal of x person and another cause making out and so forth. It was only when he heard the comments of the guy behind the counter that his ears perked up, homing in on what was being said.

...What about his butt? They would like to do what to it?

They say that the average male thinks about sex every few seconds but what came out of these girls mouths could easily put them to shame. What was so fascinating about it? It was a padded space for you to sit on. It proved no other useful function except for squeezing apparently because they were saying something about wanting to test the firmness of it. And then it just went downhill from there.

Most people would have went enough was enough and then gave the vulgar girls a piece of their mind, maybe throw the coffee at them and hope it scolded them, then laughed at him but not Itachi. The job was finished professionally as if it was any other customer in store, taking the cup back to the bench, pushing it over to their direction with the bear face as specifically ordered, looking... no, it was more of a dead stare straight at the girl waiting for her to take her beverage and leave.

She asked for his name. He stared. She wanted to know if he spoke. He stared. Twenty questions soon grew tired for her and she finally took her leave with the coffee, bring the next batch of orders and teenage girls up to the counter.

"So, are you single?"

"............."

Maybe he should change his job description to janitor.
