Test Scene
Jensen, or Hannah James as the carefully forged documentation she had provided upon her hire indicated her to be, settled in at work.  Mondays were always the busiest of days with patients calling for appointments after having had a weekend between them and normal health.  Most of the time it was nothing, but sometimes it was something so she couldn't blame them.  What she could blame, however, was that the usual receptionist was chronically not in on Mondays, leaving Hannah to man the front and do her usual job of handling the delicate dance of patient information and insurance coverage.

This was going to be a two pot of coffee and hour of I Can Has Cheezburger kind of day.  Mercifully, Joanne would catch the phone.  Hannah just had to catch the people coming in.

Cake.  She sat down at the desk, surreptitiously using a cable to plug into the computer she would be working on today.  It was just so she could get inside.  She'd disconnect quickly enough, once she had an understanding of the system.  The office updated things so haphazardly... A few seconds and she was done and on the job like a "normal" person, the doors open as the day began--complete with the phone going bonkers.

"Ah.  Monday."

"Understood."

She drew her arm back, adjusted her sleeve.

"The nurse will call for you when they're ready. Please have a seat."

Hannah looked around and hunched forward a bit to focus on work. She had only been trying to be helpful. A little color rose to her cheeks. Sloppy. She'd been sloppy.

Justin turns to go sit down, but starts to feel bad as he walks away. He didn't mean to so harsh about what he said.

He turns around to go speak to the woman again.

"Miss, I'm sorry. My tone was out of line." Justin says. "I was just a little surprised. I don't normally meet many people...like you. Granted, there are some special people I count among my friends and family--wait, I need to clarify that I don't mean anything bad by 'special'.

In fact, my girlfriend is kind of like you." Justin says.

"Not really, but in a way."

How does your foot taste, Justin? Very good, thank you.

She was surprised that he came back and even more surprised at what he was saying. Internally she tried to analyze his voice for signs of deception and found none.

"I was sloppy. I just didn't want you to get caught in the system." She picked up a pen and scribbled a number on a post-it.

"If you want to talk, this is my number."

Justin didn't expect /that/. He takes the number from "Hannah" and puts it in his pocket.

"Sure, maybe we will." Justin says, going to sit down and think things over.

Hannah went back to work. This was the first time she'd been outed, or outed herself. It was the first time she'd felt actual fear in a long time so as she sat there, part of her brain worked on a new name, a new history, a new everything for herself. If she had to, she could run.

When the nurse calls Justin back, she doesn't look up. She does when he comes back out, though and smiles politely.

When she leaves work that evening, she isn't sure he'll call and half-regrets giving him the number at all.
