Backlight Needed...
Been really busy with work lately, had some consulting on Friday, but came back into work even though the weather was super shitty. Emilie and I were going to go to Koto, but didn't, we might have gotten Chinese but I can't quite remember...I don't think we did, actually we went to Wings and got our usual.

I got Lunar Silver Star Story from my cousin on Wednesday, unfortunately I've not had time to play it, and won't for some time. It's sitting in my queue of games to play around spot 75 or so. I'll probably have to use some guide from the internet although I will poke around on eBay and see if they have anything.

This coming Tuesday I am finally going to do that Xserve/Xserve RAID consulting with a group of CSIs (Crime Scene Investigators...), that's going to be wicked awesome. Hopefully it's going to be pretty straight forward.

I've actually not touched many computers out of work, mostly because when I get home I am dead tired and I just watch a movie, get something to eat and pass out haha It sucks, but that's how it is, that's mostly why I am writing this at 2:30am, I just randomly woke up and I figured I might as well write something...

I 've been slowly reading my Feb. edition of NewType, collecting names of animes that I might enjoy, I got the new one done by the guys who made FLCL, hopefully it's good. Emilie and I watched the first episode of Ah! My Goddess last night before going to bed at 9pm (we were very tired). I enjoyed it, not sure if she did, but I would think she did.

We went to Koto last night, I told myself I was going to try sushi, I didn't. But I did get cucumber rolls. Wasn't a fan of the smell of the seaweed, but other then that, I enjoyed them. So I know I can get myself past the smell of the seaweed, so maybe I'll try sushi sometime :) I did love the cucumber rolls though, I got a new favorite thing! They were cute lol.

I think today (Sunday) I will get my taxes done, I am kinda excited to use TurboTax, I've never used it before! I also want to play some Super Paper Mario...I got a guide for Eternal Sonata last night. I was going to get Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Outbreak Files #2, but I ended up getting Dawn of Mana. I definitely will get those Resident Evil games at some point though.

So if you've made it this far in my dull post, I have a question I've been meaning to ask for sometime now...what is this whole RP stuff everyone is doing? I never really understood it and the point of it...it seems like a girl thing, I've never seen guys do it (I am sure there are some that do though...). Ok, if anyone could shed some light on that, I'd be happy, just wondering what is it and the point of it...I guess for fun?

Ok...I suppose I should get back to bed if I want to function tomorrow.

Lunar Silver Star Story was an awesome video game. Sadly I had to use my copy as cash payment for my friend to get parts to fix my old computer. I even had the special edition too with all the cool stuff in it. ;~;

Oh so you got the last issue of Newtype? Is it worth picking up? And what new anime from the guys who created FLCL are you referring to? AMG is a cute series too. Kinda bland IMHO, but cute.

Be careful with sushi. I tried it once and had a stomach ache for three straight days. X_X

Resident Evil 4 = mucho fun.

Haha, how funny you would mention RPing. I recently started asking similar questions. From what I can tell it's mainly for the fun. I might even give it a try. ...And for the record, yes I'm a guy. XP lol

Yeah, funny you mention having to sell your copy of Lunar Silver Star Story, cause I bid on a copy on eBay and the guy selling it had just about the same issue! Weird...I can't wait to play it though!

Definitely worth picking up, even though it's like $12, I love it. I always find new anime and stuff! I think I've got a list of like 12 new series/movies to get my hands on and I am not even halfway through the issue!

Going to be careful about sushi, hopefully if/when I get to that point it won't be that bad, I dunno, I am hooked on those cucumber rolls :P

My friend who works at the Gamestop loves it, but when he was talking to me about it, it was a long time ago, so I cannot remember if the Gamecube or PS2 version was the one to get, I'll have to ask him again. I would love to get my hands on the CE too. I wanna collect all the RE games eventually...

Wow, I think I've met 2 guys on Scribbld, you being the 2nd lol I don't really get it though? You just pretend to be someone else or something? Aiyeee

Thanks for the comment!

It's generally just for fun. I've always thought of it like writing, with immediate feedback, I guess. I suppose it may be seen as a girl thing, but I've known guys that do it, but if you consider WoW and MMORPGs like it, that is also roleplaying, and plenty of guys do that. I don't think it's a gender motivated thing, I've always seen it as a creative outlet. Though it happens that people (and I admit myself included to an extent) that things get taken to the point where it stops being a game and becomes full of drama-rama, and then it's not fun.

There's also the element of OOC (out of character) where you get to meet people who share the same similarities (or sometimes, complete opposites) and bond over something, generally a fandom. I've made some pretty damn awesome friends and gotten to know some amazing people - as much as you can on the internet, at least. Yeah, there's the game and the characters but then there are my friends.

Rping may be seen as nerdy or dorky, but I love it. I'd be writing either way, this just gives me feedback and connecting with other people. I don't know, it's hard to explain it, but I agree that I thought it was completely outrageous and silly when I first started. It is just for the fun, it's not like we're writing novels, mostly just expanding on shows or books or "universes" that have been created. It's like fan fiction, only... different.

Ah, yeah, I think there are those RP servers for WoW. Only a few though, I can see how it's basically just writing though. You kinda make up a story and a character and stuff, right?

It does sound kinda neat...I dunno, this is probably not what I mean to say, but to put it this way - but kinda like a lie you have to remember, ya know? What happens if you tell your RP buddy one thing one day like you have a dog named Spike and then the next day you call the dog something else? Haha do you get in trouble! Haha

I can definitely see how it can be creative though! Probably time consuming if it's anything like WoW?

Yeah, there are rp servers for WoW, just like there are communities for rping but that basically is the gist of it. If you're in a fandom, like Harry Potter or Star Wars, you're taking a character that's already been written and trying to write that character as true to the 'canon' as possible, if you're writing 'real people', id no fandom/universe involved, then it's just making stuff up.

Yeah, it sort of is a lie you have to remember, that's where good memories come in, but when stuff like that happens, not remembering what street your character lives on or the dogs name, you can blame it on dumb rperitis. Everyone's human and make mistakes, but it's sort of a challenge unto yourself to remember all the details - or to cheat and make lists so you can remember haha.

It definitely can be, but unlike WoW where there's an external force (Blizzard or whatever) creating things and missions and timelines to abide by, role playing is something you can stop whenever. That doesn't mean people always do when they should, just like WoW. It's basically just an extension of fandoms with the discussion boards and websites. Any "good" fandom has role players in it *snob* XD

Welll...

Okay, I suck at explaining things, but whenever I try to explain RPing, I explain it like this:

RPing is basically like writing a story, only you write the emotions, feelings, thoughts, and speech for only one character. Or, several, depending on what game you're in. Like, if you want to see some examples you can always check out [info]valesco, but you might not understand it if you don't follow Harry Potter or if you don't know what Marauder Era is... It's just to show how each person takes turns as thier character to make a 'thread', which is basically a scene. And sometimes, depending on the game, the characters will keep journals, which other characters can comment on. But, yes, that's...basically what RPing is? Role Playing. I don't know, I hope someone else can explain it to you better, but I tried! ♥♥

Oh yeah, I think I get it now, basically just a fun, creative game. Probably no more different then a video game, it's all just writing and based on communicating with other people.

Thanks for the explanation!

Basically! I've actually played in a Final Fantasy VII/Advent Children RP, once. I played Cloud, aaaand...yeah, it was a lot of fun! There's a game for almost everything out there. It's just really cool, and it requires a lot of creativity.

[info]snwpnitsirk and [info]im_sirius pretty much explained it to a T (and Kristine even linked you to our game, lmao!). But really, I've been RPing for nine years now and I can vouch that it's absolutely a load of fun. Met tons of great people, been in tons of great games, and it is, quite literally, the outlet through which I developed all the writing skill I have today. I suggest you try it if you ever get the time or chance!

hey. I joined scribbld today so first off a HUGE HELLO to you dude :D

Hmm yes i get newtype here in england :D its awesome. Plus my brother and his girlfriend are at uni doing animation so literally everyone in there class loves anime so there always telling me good ones and ones that are up my street so if you ever want a list mate.. you just let me know haha. Yes ive seen all of ahh my goddess and its a really really good anime. haha i was just about to offer you to borrow it all but realised ur probably american in which case im really not sending it over there to you haha.

I personally always thought RP was literally a role play. you pick who your going to be and pretend to be them. Join a community of some sort and you have different people play different people as it were and its like you carry it but your in control.

Ive never done it. i do to many things when im online that i wouldnt be able to keep up, i think id have to be really dedicated or have some extra time because who wants a character thats never on to take part aye?

well ive gone on way to much. and food is calling so with that um have a good day and yea :D
xx

Hey, welcome to Scribbld!!

I loooooove NewType, I'm glad you you enjoy it too! I've only been reading it since November-ish, but I am totally loving it so far!

Does your brother have any of his stuff online? I'd love to see! Yeah USA is far from England lol. I've got myself self a copy, but thanks! ^___^

I think you're right about having to have a lot of time to dedicate to RPing, it sounds like a lot of work, being yourself normally takes a lot of time, let alone multiple people haha

MmMm food :)

It seems like a lot of it is based on Harry Potter, but can it be anything, even like a normal person in real life?

I play more anime/video game based RPGs, so yeah! It can be anything. Some people even do popular bands/musicians. Those make me wtf a bit, since they are real people, but to each their own!

I've never been too open with rp stuff. I think it would be kind of weird. I like reality, too much. I find it interesting and creative. It's more entertaining to read what others say if you ask me.

CSI? That is pretty amazing.
