Support & Games
It has come to my attention that a community on Scribbld is causing a lot of issue and I've actually suspended the account (but it's now unsuspended). Basically because we have no ToS people are pretty much free to write about and post about anything they want. Obviously that is a real issue but I've always said from day one, if you have to think twice about the content you're posting then don't post it at all. This continues to hold true and if you're submitting objectionable content, just don't. You'll probably end up getting banned or suspended.

I am not really sure what provokes people to post such mean and hateful content and as mentioned in a support ticket, I will definitely be closing this community in question if I get more complaints from users.

I personally think the community should be allowed to stay open but ONLY members of the community can participate in their little game. I believe that is what I will propose and if that rule is broken (via a user reporting it) I will close the community. I believe that is how I will handle it.

What I don't understand is why can't people just keep to themselves. Choose your friends wisely...

I will be speaking with a few other people today to get their opinions on the issue and from there we will decide on whether or not to keep the community open.

-----------

In other news....Keith came over last night and we hung out. I hooked him up with Aperture 2 and Cloverfield. [info]makkintosshu also stopped over to drop off an Ethernet cable. we all hung out and chatted video games. As with every Tuesday night we'll be online playing Call of Duty 4 -- my gamertag is vtequine.

[info]emilie made us a really good dinner last night, Shepards Pie. I loved it. Then we just hung out pretty much for the rest of the night.

I've also been working with Morgan and talking about a new project he's working on. More details to be revealed later :) it'll be neat though.

I finally got an S2 style I like except when I leave the comment page to be the style it looks horrid, I hate how none of the S2 stuff seems to indent or nest the comments. It's lame, but at least I like the layout...

I believe that's all I have to say for right now

Yeah I have that going through my mind too. People sometimes need to step away. But I don't see why they should be "randomly" picked on, that seems really lame to me. That's what I don't like, there's no point to it...

I mean if they provoke people to pick on them or start shit, sure go ahead, give it right back to them, but I hate when people do it just to poke fun and to start shit...

People are randomly picked on from day to day whether they like it or not. If they don't wanna see it, then they don't have to. All the flames are under a cut and by clicking the cut, they're willingly setting themselves up for whatever is coming. They choose to click, they choose to respond, they choose to start drama. It wouldn't happen if they just stepped away from the community. It's not like people are posting the flames in the targets' journals, that would be a different story.

Yeah I suppose that's right then. But why should such a community exist? What is the purpose? Just to be there?

To vent. People get bored. Some think it's fun. Some people are just mean spirited.

Considering [info]flamecup seems to be the source of alot of unnecesary stife and bickering, I see it more as mean spirited than good ol' venting.

Besides, don't we have [info]bitchbook for that?

Just as much drama is in bitchbook. And then that drama gets posted on flamecup. They practically go hand in hand.

Probably, especially since people bitchbook each other over Pokemon cards...

I am starting to think all this drama is scripted in some way.

This one chick is as old as you and me, and she decides to have a titty-attack about POKEMON cards that her friend didn't give her some card!

I am serious. This drama here HAS to be scripted.
First, as SOON AS I GOT HERE, I heard rumors about some chick posting her vagina on 4chan and someone made a flame about it!

First time I ever experienced pure e-net DRAMA. Just ridicilous!

Yes but please just avoid it, there's no sense in getting yourself involved.

Why should one be allowed to exist and not the other? Bitchbook should have a monopoly on it when flamecup came first, just because SOME people have bitched about flamecup and not bitchbook?

Same reason why any other community exists. Some people find fun in RPing, gaming, rating, and a lot find fun in making fun of other people. Insecurity issues perhaps. It's not in my personality to do so, but I'm not going to bash others for doing what they like to do. It's actually somewhat entertaining.

I wouldn't call it random. Like I said, a majority of people flamed are people who post on bitchbook. They make their own drama available for everyone to read and to possibly flame. If you're going to post your life publicly, you should be ready for people to express their opinions on it.

Yeah that is very true, they should keep things private if they don't want it out in the public, but then what happens when someone on your friends list is pissed off and take a photo from your private post? What do you do then?

Wait for the mods of the community to check it out, that's not good enough.

The mods have always looked into it as soon as something is said. There is a place to post violations. If people don't follow the rules and post in the right place how are the mods to be blamed for that?

The mods of flamecup have always done an excellent job of taking care of violations. Sometimes it's harder because there is a lack of actual proof as to if something is actually private, and if it was public BEFORE the flame was submitted. The only time I've seen a mod ignore a violation was by a mod who isn't even a part of flamecup now. She was replaced by [info]pandolfo and you can bet that girl will have the community under control.

I am not really sure why people should have to go through extra hoops to make sure they're not posted about on the community, that doesn't make sense to me...

I didn't know that posting a voilation was so HARD. Wow, what a hoop to jump.

So it's okay to put restrictions on the mods and make THEM "jump hoops", but too hard for memebers to take care of their own stuff?

(Reply to this)(Parent)

[info]diaf
2008-04-08 07:29 pm UTC (link)
They go through the hoops because sometimes there is little to no proof that a flame was against the violation. If there is one that clearly is against the rules, they don't post it to begin with. But they're always on top of it and get violations removed really fast.

Don't add sixty billion people you don't trust who would do something like that? Don't start drama with people on your friends list, and they won't be provoked to do such things? Besides, posting shit from f/o journals IS against flamecup rules. It's not as though they have no restrictions.

I don't either. And with a lot of people (who are, incidentally, flamed quite often) it's not just once or twice that they make the mistake of adding someone they don't know. It's again and again and again. Stupidity shouldn't be rewarded, imo.

Agreed, you'd think they'd have learned the first time...if not the second.
