O C C U P A T I O N
Job:
Bartender
Is he/she good at it? Brilliant at it, actually. He’s friendly, a good listener, can open a beer bottle with his bare hands, and can make a drink quickly.
Does he/she enjoy it? Most of the time. As ways to pay the bills, it’s not bad.
Other:
Tending bar is a way to make a living while Seamus works on getting some writing sold. Someday he’d like to make a living that way, without having to serve alcohol to crazy people all night.

A P P E A R A N C E
Eyes:
greenish grey
Hair: Typically described as “sandy”, somewhere between blond and brown. Tends to be a little shaggy, sometimes edging on toward long when he’s “too busy for a haircut”.
Complexion: Fair and clear, tans a little in the summertime.
Height: 6 feet even.
Weight: Around 170 lbs.
Build: Atheletic – he looks like a swimmer, and he is.
Posture: His standing posture is fairly straight, but once he’s in a chair he will immediately begin to lounge, leaning over the back and sprawling.
Heritage: Irish all the way, all Catholics.
Sense of Style: Very casual. Seamus typically lives in jeans and t-shirts or button-down oxfords, only breaking out the robes for dressy occasions when it’s required.
Type of Speech: His accent is heavily Irish, marked by the cadences and constructions of his home village on the Aran Islands. Seamus’s grammar is typically excellent, but he’ll sometimes change that for effect or situational purposes.
Overused Phrases: Fuck, bloody fuckin’ hell, I mean…, Jaysus, for fuck’s sake
Distinguishing Features: magically done tattoo of the Tree of Life on his right upper arm, eyebrows considerably darker than his hair
Physical Health: Horse-like
Wand Hand: right

P S Y C H O L O G I C A L
Intelligence:
Very bright, particularly in verbal areas. The Sorting Hat debated a long time on Seamus, and very nearly sent him into Ravenclaw. Instead, he wound up a reader in a house full of people who didn’t really, so they didn’t see much of it in school.
Mental Health: A touch bipolar. He can have some rather sharp mood swings, often depending heavily on how the writing is going that day. He also has some abandonment issues related to his rather crummy excuse for a father.
Introvert/Extrovert: Seamus will talk to anyone, and easily. However, when he needs alone time, he needs it badly. So extrovert with some introverted tendencies.
Phobias: Banshees; turning out like his father.
Self-esteem: Swings between almost too high and rather low, with relatively little time spent on the middle ground.
Positive Traits: loyal, friendly, caring, intelligent, funny
Negative Traits: temperamental, judgmental, obsessive, hates admitting to being wrong, impatient
Secrets:

M A G I C A L
Strengths:
Ancient Runes, so long as the translation’s not too long. He gets impatient with the dry prosaic stuff after a while. He can knock out poetic translations like nobody’s business, though. Astronomy, just because he likes it. He has a good visual memory. He’s also excellent at Apparating – can do it with almost perfect silence and excellent accuracy.
Weaknesses: God, don’t let him near your plants. They’ll probably blacken and die instantly. Which is to say, Herbology. His impatience always affected his Potions work, as well – he’d get distracted and end up making a mess of things, or forgetting what he was about and missing a step or things of that nature.
Wand: 10”, alder wood, with a gryphon feather core
Boggart: a banshee
Mirror of Erised: Himself at his own book-signing with Lisa.
Patronus: a wolfhound
Animagus: a hedgehog

P E R S O N A L I T Y
Likes:
whiskey, women, the color green, loud rock n roll, the ocean, bacon, dark chocolate, black coffee, thunderstorms, clever stand up comedy, horror movies.
Dislikes: pumpkin juice, the color orange, jam bands that are not Cream or The Allman Bros., really hot weather, people who are arrogant without meriting it.
Hobbies: swimming, running, Quidditch, flying in general, singing, drinking
Habits: writing, sorting candy into colours before eating it, keeping a very clean kitchen but a very messy bedroom, counting steps,
Turn Ons: laughter, intelligence, intensity, a pretty smile, nice legs
Turn Offs: apathy, stupidity, and strangers in his personal space
At First Glance: He’s obviously friendly, he laughs a lot, he’s casual with people, and if you catch him on the wrong subject you may find him rather snarky and sarcastic.

Mother:
Saoirse Finnigan
Father: Kevin O’Malley
Siblings: none
Other: Uncle Patrick (his mother’s brother), Aunt Mairi, and their three kids: Eva, Laoghaire, and Keith.
Family/Personal History:Seamus was born into a wreck of a marriage. His mother, Saoirse, married Kevin O’Malley much too quickly and much too young, more in love with the idea of him than the man himself. He was a musician and writer, she was a witch fresh out of Hogwarts who found him terribly romantic and dashing. She became pregnant with Seamus only a few months after getting married. By the end of a year, though, it was obvious that romance wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Kevin was wonderful when things were going well, but he was also prone to intense depression. When depressed, he drank, and when he drank, he got violent. The “nasty shock” that let Kevin know his wife was a witch was when he took a drunken swing at her face and found himself thrown backward by an invisible force.

That night, Saoirse took her son and her maiden name and never looked back. The divorce went fairly quickly, and neither Saoirse nor Kevin wanted to see the other. They have not spoken since the last day in court. Seamus had some curiosity about his father as a kid, and spent exactly one summer with him, after his 4th year at Hogwarts. He quickly found out exactly why his mother didn’t want anything to do with the bastard.

His parents’ situation made Seamus a little skittish of long-term relationships. He dated around a bit in school, had girlfriends but none especially serious. He wanted to make sure that what happened to his mother (marrying someone too quickly who turned out to be a rather awful person) didn’t happen to him. When he decided to settle down, it was going to be a well thought out decision that would be able to last the rest of his life. Seamus was perfectly all right being casual with girls in school. He had friends for stability, particularly his best mate Dean Thomas but also the rest of the gang in Gryffindor. Girls were for flirting and messing around with or sometimes just friends. Until the war kicked into high gear, Seamus had fun in school - he had a few detentions for mouthing off and sneaking cigarettes, but nothing horrible, and he mostly did well in his classes (Ancient Runes and Astronomy were easy, favorite subjects, while Herbology was a struggle. DADA and Transfiguration fell somewhere in the middle.)

Eventually, Seamus became involved with Dumbledore’s Army. He was a halfblood and therefore had some personal stake in preventing Voldemort from rising to power again. He also had (and has) a strong dislike of anyone trying to subjugate other people.

This same trait made the Order the logical place for Seamus when he got out of school. He’s often too brave for his own good, and was perfectly willing to put his own safety on the line for the good of the rest of the world. He has the odd talent of being very, very good at Apparation - he can do it almost silently to almost anywhere (particularly at night, when all that Astronomy starts to come in handy). Thus, he spent a whole lot of time on reconnaissance - going a whole lot of places and being very very quiet and trying to find information. In the process, he saw a lot of horrible things, some that he couldn’t even do anything about. He was involved in some battles, too, and is marked by a long scar across the back of his shoulder from a cutting curse that he couldn’t dodge. The worse scars are the emotional ones, the sort a man gets from losing friends and innocence much too young. The war still haunts him in some ways, and though the nightmares aren‘t so bad as they once were, he‘ll still occasionally wake in a cold sweat.

Unlike some of his classmates who went into law enforcement after the war, Seamus decided he didn’t want any more fighting in his life. He continued as a bartender to pay the bills and started working on his writing. He writes in both English and Irish (but mostly English), mostly short fiction and poetry, and is about dead split between acceptance and rejection letters when he sends things off, his short stories generally doing better than his poetry. He hopes to write a novel someday, but so far he hasn’t come up with anything that seems a good enough idea for one.

It was just after the end of the war that Seamus met Lisa Turpin. He’d only had a vague idea of who she was in school, but one day in the nonfiction section of Fluorish and Blotts they ran into one another again. She saw that he was picking up A Cultural History of the Language of Magic and expressed some surprise that he’d read such a thing, which led to a long conversation that turned into an exchange of addresses, which turned into a date, which turned into more dates, which eventually turned into dating, living together, and at last engagement. They’ve been living together for a year now, and with Lisa’s Healer training finally finished they can move to someplace significantly more comfortable than their first tiny flat: Euphoria Lane.

R E L A T I O N S H I P S
Mother: Seamus and Saoirse are very close – they sort of had to be, because for a long time they were all they had. In spite of this and somewhat because of this, they tend to argue a lot; they always get over it, though.
Father: Seamus hasn’t seen his father in years, nor does he care to. As far as he’s concerned, the bastard’s a drunk who hits girls and doesn’t care about anyone but hisownself.
Siblings: none
Children: none
Acquaintances: The neighbors around Euphoria Lane, regular patrons of the bar
Friends: The old Gryffindor crew he attended school with, plus the people he fought with in the war, plus a few people from work.
Enemies: People who were on the opposite side during the war; blood purists in general
Romantic:
Very happily engaged to and madly in love with Lisa Turpin. Previous entanglements include a occasional snogging with Mandy Brocklehurst (97-98, off and on), a few dates with Ginny Weasley in early '98, Alicia Spinnet (early 1999), Parvati Patil (late August 1999 – late February 2000), (still need more ex-girlfriends! Buzz me if your character wants to be one!)

F E E L I N G S O N . . .
God:
S/He probably exists, but S/He doesn’t live in a church (though S/He might visit there from time to time).
Family: The rock you can always count on…or at least should be.
Friends: Never assume you’ll have all the time you want with them, so enjoy the time you have. And never, ever break Rule Number One.
Love: Used to be kind of down on it – his parents weren’t exactly the best examples in the world. As the war went on, he started to realize that life was too short to live in fear. He was still a little skittish by the time Lisa came along, but Seamus decided that for the right girl, he could take a chance. He’s very, very glad he did.
Politics: Pay attention to it – it’s paying attention to you.
Premarital Sex: Be responsible and it’s awesome.
Blood Elitists: Bastards. Dangerous bastards.
Ministry of Magic: Like governments in general, it’s trying its best to do a job that can’t possibly be done.

This is just an RP journal. The character concept is mine, but is obviously based in the work of J.K. Rowling, who I am not. The PB is Charlie Hunnam, who I also am not. The icons come from three sources: [info]randomfact, [info]megaria, and [info]madhattermuses. I'm afraid they've all been so long ago that I don't know whose are whose anymore. If you want to take any of them, though, let me know and I can ask them and figure out who they belonged to. Oh, and this template for all this information? Got that from [info]0h_boy. Thanks Jamie!
