[Ohh, Mrs. Travers!]
Amery did not believe that there was anybody in the world who enjoyed being pregnant as much as Juliana Natalya did, no matter how she said she despised it. Because if she wasn't pregnant (although having a husband imprisoned for murder also aided in this), how else would she be allowed to toss about obscenities, among many other behaviors, in public with people cooing at her? Amery even began to think that he would throttle the next person who told him what a tragic life his sister must be leading, to have the father of her child be such a cruel wizard.

But being pregnant did not allow a few things for Juliana, and since the mysterious father was nowhere to be found, Amery had stepped into this role both by proxy and by his rightful place as eldest son and person who could get Juliana to cooperate fifty-five percent of the time as opposed to fifty. Thus, he had brushed aside the house-elves and strode right into the library, only to find Juliana a solid woman of her word with a glass of the previously-threatened liquor in one hand.

"Are you trying to kill both myself and your unborn child? Please don't force me to tell you that you have three seconds to put the glass down yourself before I forcibly extract it from you."

Oh, Juliana enjoyed being pregnant. She enjoyed it so much that she was ready to do anything that she possibly could to be done being pregnant.

What had she been thinking, keeping this thing? Was a security lock on her husband's fortune really worth ruining the rest of her life becoming a mother to a child she had no interest in--and who, to boot, wasn't even Orpheus' at all? What did she even know about being a mother, anyway? Ophelia, Ophelia, that whore sister-in-law of hers--as much as she hated her, she was the sort of person that became a mother, so---congratu-fucking-lations to her, she could have this one too, because she didn't want it, nothing was worth the nine months of torture and the ruined lifetime and the--the---

What had she been saying?

Juliana shook her head and sunk into one of the library's couches, waiting for her train of thought to come back to her. From out in the hallway the sound of footsteps registered faintly in her mind, and somewhere she knew who it had to be---still, she looked surprised as Amery came into sight, like she hadn't expected him to actually come.

She got up from the couch to greet him, ignoring (or possibly not hearing) his warning as she did so by downing the rest of the clear liquid from her glass even as she nearly tripped over her own feet. "Well good afternoon, otets," she answered with a self-satisfied smile.

He raised his eyebrow and plucked the glass from her lazy grip, eying the lack of its contents, unimpressed.

"Honestly, kisa?" Amery folded his arms and gave her an expectant look. "You are this far along in your pregnancy, and you choose to drink? I know you and the idea of motherhood have your differences , but this is well beyond toeing a line you should not think of crossing."

In fact, Amery was thinking that he might have to have the house searched for the remaining decanters and bottles to have them properly disposed of. It was a quick, albeit temporary, fix for the problem, but if it ruffled Juliana's feathers, it would do its job. A job which, Amery would like to add, would have been so much easier had she actually been impregnated by a husband (her husband, preferably, but he was willing to let that slide on account of just who that was) who would actually be able to care for his wife for duration of her pregnancy.

Which he voiced aloud. "Although if you had someone here legitimately caring for you, that would be ensured. I'm sure the good-for-nothing is happily distracting himself with something else, however."

"Just every once in a while isn't going to kill anyone," she insisted with an obnoxiously inappropriate pout, similar to what she normally only used with men she was attempting to seduce. Then again, that hadn't exactly been her first glass that he'd pulled out of her hands. "I've been good til now!"

Lazily, she grabbed for the glass back, but her brother seemed intent on keeping it out of her way--pout dropping into a full-blown frown, she turned back the other way and headed towards the open liquor cabinet to see what else she could find. Amery would come after her, she knew, but that little issue was secondary in her mind to drinking herself into a coma (if she was lucky).

Juliana scoffed and rolled her eyes in response to his comment about---whoever, well, it wasn't as if he knew. Why didn't he know again? It wasn't as if it really mattered, he couldn't do anything about it, not unless he wanted her to lose everything and their family to lose respect and--she didn't know why she didn't tell him, she told Amery everything, her interfering but dearly beloved big brother---

"Don't talk that way about your cousin," she muttered. She said it like she didn't know what she was saying, despite that it had been a premeditated revelation (although possibly not advised). "Christopher can't be here, what would that look like. Don't want him here, anyway."

He tolerated her boozy, coquettish behavior simply as an attempt to avoid the oncoming lecture he was very firmly going to give her in any case, perhaps by enticing him to join in for a glass or two. As interfering as Amery was, it was because someone needed to be. And being that the one beacon of sensibility in this family had died, Amery did his halfhearted best to try and maintain some of the outlandish things this family did (the bloodlust etc. aside).

"No, Juliana, it will kill someone, this is your child and you have to--"

Not that Amery had been saying that. No, he'd certainly been thinking about it, and he was just about ready to open his mouth to continue this thought aloud when Juliana mentioned a very interesting fact that she should, in all likelihood, ought never have mentioned.

The glass in his hand dropped, shattering on the floor.

"Juliana," he began, jaw clenched and the words coming out slowly and tightly, pronouncing each word carefully so that he wouldn't start throwing glassware around for the fun of it, "what would Christopher have to do with this?"

Juliana found it rather easy to ignore the warning on the possible fatality of her child, but the glass shattering to the floor of the library did get her attention. She peered back at Amery curiously, taking in his barely controlled expression with some confusion. As if she didn't have the capacity to understand him being upset at her words.

She probably should have not had that last glass of vodka, should she?

"Don't be stupid, Amery," she answered flatly, rising from her kneeling position in front of the liquor cabinet. "You wanted to know, didn't you? When this first happened, you bothered me to know who it was if not Orpheus. Well, there you go, I told you--now stop looking like that. The deer-in-the-headlights look is hardly attractive on you."

For a moment as she regarded him, she wondered if she had made a mistake. But her mind was swimming--she felt above it all, like none of it really mattered anyway. What would he do, anyway? What would he really do?

The hand which had let the glass drop was beginning to shake and he curled it into a fist, trying his best to regain his self-control. How could she let this happen, how could Christopher have let this happen; she was practically a widower, for the love of St. Peter. There was the whole matter of kissing cousins, so to speak, but honestly, how interrelated were all the Purebloods, anyway? Not to mention, well-- it certainly wasn't surprising, to say the least.

But Amery was astounded that Juliana would put herself (and that Christopher would aid her) in this situation. That idiot Travers and his sister were very obviously at one another's throats, thus it would not be a stretch to say more than a handful of people were aware of the fact that the child was not that of her absent husband. But Amery prayed to high heavens he was the only one, and would remain the only one, who was aware of this knowledge.

This did not, however, stop him from allowing one, and only one, moment of snickering glee, should the boy Orpheus ever hear of his 'siring' a son.

"Who knows?" Amery asked softly, hands folded behind his back, staring at one of the many library shelves. "Is our dear cousin aware of this development?"

"No one knows," Juliana replied with a roll of her eyes. Honestly, just because she'd told her brother didn't mean she was about to shout from the rooftops that she'd fucked her cousin and was now carrying his inbred bastard child. For goodness' sake, she had some shame. Not much, and it was very rare that she exercised, it, but she did have it. "Except Christopher. He knows."

Of course he knew. She had only bitched him out over dinner a week or so after she'd found out about this interesting little development.

Sighing, she leaned against one of the walls of books and crossed her arms tightly over her chest. "Now will you let me curl up and down the rest of this alcohol over here?"
