"That's exactly what I said.. one of the only things I got out," the other blonde muttered, cracking a little smile. They really were alike, and they were also right. If Michiko could handle keeping them in line, there was no baby out there that could stump her. She and Mack were much more unpredictable and mobile.
She was relieved when Mackenzie locked the door, and she even relaxed back more comfortably into the pile of sleeping bag and blankets she was still half tangled inside of. With the vodka still in hand, she took another swig and followed it with a drag from the cigarette. "Gotta get this in, I guess. Dads can't be doin' this shit," she sighed, her eyes going wide even as she said it. She was kind of right. It probably wouldn't be good to go around drunk every night now if Michi was expecting.. they were expecting, that was what a couple would say. It made her gulp. She listened to what her best friend told her, feeling a bit reassured more and more by the second. By the time the shorter blonde was done talking, Hunter was smiling sort of bashfully, trying to cover it up by looking overly skeptical. "Whatever, fag. I'm jus'.. y'know, it's my boo. I gotta have her," she replied, shrugging and shaking her head a bit. Chewing her lower lip, she sighed. "Gotta have her, ain't nobody else who does.. that fuckin' piece of shit that caused all this and then them parents, if y'all even wanna call them that.. fit right in with our folks," the blonde murmured. "I'll be a damn good pops, an' I'll be all the damn family she needs. We'll do it right," Hunter stated, trying to sound confident, and even starting to feel it a bit. Maybe it was the alcohol. "You'll be an auntie, man. You and Kia.. for sure, any kid I ever had. Y'all are family. We're jus'.. y'know, expandin' the family. We're good," she agreed. When Mack brought up their promise, she followed her friend's eyes, finding what she was looking at and cracking another weak smile. "Jus' like we said, man.. brothers for life. We're basically blood related after that, same diff, right?"
Mackenzie smirked, as serious as this whole situation was she couldn't help but enjoy getting to rag on her friend a little bit. "Yeah pops!" she said cheerfully, reaching over and taking the bottle from Hunter. She took a swig from it and grinned at the taller blonde. "Guess you gotta get clean now that you're tied down." The thought of having a kid and all the responsibility that came with it kind of freaked Mackenzie out. Hunter was right, she couldn't be shooting the breeze and drinking with Mack all the time, not when Michi needed help. It was like the end of an era, the kind of change that they had both been scared of when they had come to Blue Ridge.
She kept her eyes fixed on the wall, trying not to let her anxiety and jealousy show. While she didn't want to have to be facing something like a pregnant girlfriend, she couldn't deny that she wasn't jealous. There was a reason that Mack didn't do relationships, it was just too hard to get attached, but deep down she wished that she had someone the way Hunter had Michi. Taking another drink, she nodded along as Hunter talked, grunting her agreement at certain parts of the taller girls rant. Michi's parents were just about as bad as their own, in a different way but it was still valid. It was probably why the two tall blondes had taken such a liking to her in the first place. She couldn't help but laugh when Hunter told her that her and Kia would be auntie to the child. "I better be fucking god mother to that kiddo too you big sap!" She grinned at the taller girl to mask her earlier weirdness, not wanting to bring up her feelings. "Damn right we're all family, who else we got otherwise?" Her serious expression returned when Hunter brought up being blood brothers, but a small smile tugged at her lips anyway. It helped calm some of her previous fears about the huge change that was about to happen. "Of course we're related," she said confidently, just like she had all those years ago. "We're brothers for life now, you can't break the blood brothers bond." She bit her lip and sat there worrying it for few moments of silence before looking back to Hunter. She tried not to let her insecurity show on her face, but she was sure that the other girl would be able to read it. "Y'all won't forget about me, will you?" She asked quietly, hating herself for having to get sappy on the taller girl. It had just kind of slipped out, but there was no taking it back now. "Ya know, now that you got you lady and a kid on the way. You're gonna be busy as hell, no time for little 'ol me any more." She joked to try to lighten the situation.
"I'm gunna hafta be on the ol' straight and narrow.. imagine that. Maybe by the time the kid's like, ten. Gimme some time," Hunter groaned, clutching her hands over her face as Mack removed the bottle from them. There was going to be a lot of responsibility, a lot of things to do, to take care of. They'd be graduated after this year, and then they'd be working real jobs, but real aurors. She would be an adult, technically speaking, with a job and a family. It was definitely going to be a turn around.
Reaching over, as if in honor of her impending loss, the taller blonde took the bottle of vodka back. She drank deeply, tipping her head back and making a little face when she finally pulled the liquor back from her lips. "God mother, whatever ya want, fag. I'll let y'all be whatever ya want, don't worry. Family, man! So don't cry 'bout it," she teased the other girl back, rolling her eyes. She had noticed a bit of the weirdness, the silence that had settled between them as they both stared at the wall. Tightening her grip on the vodka bottle, she smiled a little as well. "I told y'all to use spit.. now I'm stuck with ya. Maybe that's why I'm into chicks, I got your gay germs," she joked, cracking a wider smile. "Jus' kiddin, man. I like the ladies 'cos they're smokin'.. nothin much else to say 'bout it," she grinned. Letting the silence settle in, the blonde shifted her hands anxiously on the bottle again, her mind just beginning to over think things all over again. When Mack looked at her, she looked back, immediately seeing something off in the expression she caught there. Raising an eyebrow, the taller girl blinked at her as she spoke. She gave her friend a look as if she thought the other girl was quite out of her mind. "Forget 'bout ya?" she echoed, straightening up a bit and puffing out her chest. "Shut up wit' that shit, man! I ain't gunna forget 'bout my best friend, you ain't.. y'know, never forgot 'bout me. That ain't go it goes. Brothers, man, straight up fuckin' brothers! I ain't gunna be able to raise no kid without you round anyway."
"How many time's do I gotta tell you that spit doesn't mean anything?" She asked, rolling her eyes. Hunter had been extremely serious about using spit, to which the shorter blonde had said no. For some reason the idea of blood was a lot more appealing than spit, and the shorter girl was pretty sure that it was a lot more binding. Her father had always told her that blood had a strong magic to it, especially wizarding blood. At the time, they had been too young to really understand, but Mackenzie had a sneaking suspicion that they had don't some little bit of magic that day. She hadn't really looked into it that much, but she was almost positive they now shared a bond more permanent than just friendship.
"Yeah yeah," she grinned, sticking out her and wiggling it at the other girl. "You should be thanking me for sharing my gay germs you ass! I saved you from a life of sick body hair and no tits." Mackenzie instantly regretted voicing her concern, especially when Hunter looked at her like she was out of her mind. Hunter's words made her feel stupider, even if the the taller girl's words did calm her fears about the change in their life. Hunter was the only person besides Kia who had always been there for her, who had never abandoned her, they needed each other even if neither of them would admit it. Mackenzie had never been able to talk about serious things with anyone but her best friend, there was no one else she trusted more. "Fuckin' brothers," she echoed back at the taller girl, smiling at her. "I bet you'd be pretty crap at raising a kid without me. We both know you can't fly for shit, someone's gotta teach the kid how to do it properly!" She felt better already now that she had confirmed that the pact still stood strong between them. It wasn't going to be easy once Michi had the kid, but Mack would do whatever she could to help both of her friends. She pulled out another cigarette and lit it, puffing out the smoke thoughtfully and relaxing against the wall. "I feel like I should have gotten you a cigar or something," she joked, grinning stupidly at Hunter. She quickly stole the bottle of vodka and took a few drinks before returning it to her friends hand. "Guess we better do all of our guy stuff now before you gotta become a family man! Who would have thought you'd be the first to settle down, eh?"
"Don't tell me spit don't mean nothin' to nobody!" Hunter protested automatically, igniting the old argument. Bickering about that fact came as easily to them as bickering about Quodpot versus Quidditch. They would just never agree. "It still counts!" she added, a bit grumpily. She snorted at Mack's comment, sticking her tongue out right back. "Whatever, fag! I guess if I got y'all to thank for lettin' me notice how smokin' hot my girl is.. then yeah, I kinda owe ya," she joked back.
When Mack accused her of not being able to fly, she reached out and grabbed the nearest pillow, whacking the shorter blonde hard with it. "Shaddup! Like I'd ever let an amateur like you teach any of my kids to fly.. I want 'em to know what they're doin', not look like some Quidditch playin' goofball," she informed her friend, rolling her eyes. It was easier to banter like this, to rip on each other and laugh a little. It lifted some of the tension, helped her to forget that her life would be changing entirely soon. "Cigar woulda been nice. Maybe next time," she mused, chuckling a bit and giving the other girl's shoulder a shove as she smoked absently. She took the bottle back, slurping some down as well. "Gunna be like my last hurrah, the never endin' every day bachelor party 'til she pops!"
"Spit don't mean nothin'!" Mackenzie shot back, grinning and sticking her tongue out at the taller girl. It felt good to know that Hunter would be there, that even if the world was changing around them, things like this never changed. "Blood is thicker in magic, therefore the bond is stronger!" She made sure to say it in her best Sera impression when the younger girl was proving a point to the two blonde's. She knew Hunter would pick up on it immediately, they had spent many afternoons pretending to be stupid to get under the younger girl's skin while she tutored them. "Damn right you owe me," Mackenzie grumbled, settling back in.
She wasn't expecting the taller girl to grab a pillow and bring it down on her head, hard. "You're so fucking dead!" She roared, grabbing another pillow and swinging it into the other girl's face. "If you wanna cripple your kids forever with your poor broom skills than be my guest! Jesus Christ, you look like a cow on a broomstick!" She sank back down with her pillow clutched against her body, sulking slightly. "Yeah well, had I was given more notice I would have had cigars and Patron for you. As it was though, I had intended to spend the evening other ways so, you'll have to wait." Mackenzie charmed away the butt of her cigarette, and proceeded to light another one immediately after. Puffing out a new plume of smoke, she tilted her head in thought for a few moments. "I'll throw you a damn good bachelor party, one last hurrah to your man hood before you become a pops!" She said, grinning at the idea of another party so soon in the year. "Maybe we can even convince Ser to organize a baby shower or somethin'. I bet her and Kia would have kittens over getting to do some girly shit like that."
"Yeah it does but whatever you fuckin' say, professor!" she shot back absently, grinning a bit at the spot on impression, right before she was smacked back in the face. Flopping backwards as the pillow hit her, the taller blonde groaned. "Y'all couldn't teach a bird to fly, man.. let alone li'l kids. I'd do way better," she boasted. "Kids would love me, right? I seem like somebody a kid would like?"
It had been something that, despite her better judgment, she had been dwelling on. What if she was no good at it? What if the baby didn't like her? Worse, how old would it be before it started to resent her? She was getting ahead of herself, surely, but it was hard to worry about the situation at all without every little worry snowballing on her. "Babies love me, I got that goofy face," she murmured, more to reassure herself than to tell Mack. "Anyway, you couldn't fly up the broad side of a barn so there. I ain't gunna cripple no kids! Maybe blow 'em up a bit, but that's Quodpot for ya!" Perking up at the mention of a bachelor party, the blonde sipped her drink and raised an eyebrow. "Bachelor parties are for when ya get married, we ain't.. well, y'know maybe, but not right now. It's gotta be a daddy shower, I guess. Y'all can buy me power tools and ties I ain't never gunna wear," she joked. When Mack mentioned a baby shower, it was like her best friend was reading her mind, as usual. "Damn, get outta my head, bitch! I was thinkin' that'd be real nice to do.. plus free stuff and cash, right? But I dunno nothin' bout that shit. Li'l sister and Kia got this in the bag though. They just dunno it yet! They'll make 'er all pretty and fancy and shit.. we'll jus' put up the high up decorations for 'em and drink beer. Fair, right?"
"Of course kid's 'll like you," Mackenzie said seriously, putting down her pillow and looking at Hunter. As much as they liked to joke about who was the better flyer, it really wasn't about that. Mackenzie knew that Hunter would be a better teacher than she would, she just had that personality. The shorter girl might have been social when it came to seducing girls, but otherwise her social skills were abysmal. All of the friends she had were because of Hunter, she had met them all through the other girl. With the exception of Tatum, because Sera had introduced them, but she wasn't even sure that she could call them friends. "Hell Hunt, who doesn't like you in the end? You got that somethin', and I mean that in a no homo way."
Snorting at Hunter's description of a daddy shower, Mack rolled her eyes at the taller girl. "I ain't buying you any power tools dick, you'll take your goddamn hand off this time." She thought for a moment, before speaking again. "We'll get some fake ID's and go out or somethin, or just throw another rager in the forest. You have to out with a bang Hunt, it's only right." The shorter girl just smirked at Hunter, "I don't wanna be your mind slut! Trust me, it's a scary fucking place in there. All kinds of sappy mush about Michiko and quodpot nonsense." Mackenzie pulled out her phone to text Kia quickly before looking back up to Hunter. "Of course! It's the way it'll probably be twenty years from now when we both got families and stuff. We'd always be more of the dads, not like there are many women taller than we are anyway."
Hunter laughed loudly, nodding her head and already feeling a little bit better upon hearing that. "I guess so, I am pretty hot shit.. I get along with people, I can get along wit' a baby. Everythin'll be real gravy, right? I'll do-- y'know, fun stuff with 'em. Teach 'em how to raise hell and give everybody a tough time," she half joked. She was sure Michi would kill her if she taught the little guy or girl too much mischief, but there was no way she wouldn't pass on all of her hell-raising tips and trips to her kids.
"Out with a bang, yeah. We'll do somethin' real fucking cool and jus' make it real awesome. Somethin' people are gunna remember! Before I go an' fade from everybody's memory when I become a full-time pops," she laughed back, nudging the shorter blonde roughly with her elbow. When her friend insulted her mind, she smirked further and gave her another rough elbow. "Hey! Ain't nothing wrong with what I got goin' on up in my brain.. don't act like you ain't sappy on the inside. I know all 'bout ya, Mackenzie Dubinsky. Better'n ya know yerself, got it?" It was sort of true, and it worked both ways. It was why there was no one else she could have told this to first. If Mack approved, if Mack understood her reluctant feelings and could help her through, if Mack believed she could do it, than Hunter believed her. They had been through everything together over the years, and if they didn't support each other, there really wasn't anyone else. She had Michi now, of course, but Mack was like family. The closest thing that she had to a sister, other than Kia. The three of them were family, she almost wanted them to call her together. "Couple of dads, that'll be us. Beer guts an' all, retired with some real badass wounds and junk. Our ladies are gunna be fallin' all over us and our kids.. well, y'know, they'll respect us an' shit. Cos we're so badass." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
