Characters: Rowan and Ben
Setting: Sonnier common room, after classes, Thursday September 30th, 2010
Content: Safe for work, I would imagine.
Summary: Rowan and Ben meet up in the common room and THINGS HAPPEN though probably not.

Rowan had set up in the common room after changing from her suit for opposite day.  She was in a fantastic mood, looking forward to the homecoming game and dance.  Especially the dance.  She was sure that there was no way she was going to be in the court, but it was so exciting to see the people get called up and named to their positions.  This would be her first homecoming that she had actually paid attention to since she actually had a reason to this year.

But that was no reason to slack off in the studying.  So she set up with her homework at one of the tables in the common room and set to finishing up her work for the next week.  By staying a week ahead if possible, she hoped that she could give herself more time to space out her studying when it came to finals time.  Rowan enjoyed being prepared.  Her head over a book, Rowan started to write out her homework carefully and precisely.

"Rowan." Ben said in his usual lackadaisical way. Which was more than he gave most people. His expression was about as bland as his tone. She was actually sitting where he normally preferred to sit, but he wasn't about to tell her to move.

He liked Rowan. As much as he was capable of liking someone, anyway. Which was much less than most people if at all.

She looked up at the sound of her name. "Ben! Hey! How's it going? Care to join me?" Rowan thought Ben was a sweet guy, kind of on the quiet side. Not that there was anything wrong with that, as she herself was on the quiet side normally as well.

"Happy to be back at school?"

"Hi," Ben replied--not having expected actual conversation. Though he wasn't sure why. Rowan was always particularly chatty.

"I suppose so," He said glumly, not making it clear which of her questions he was answering. "How are you fairing?"

Rowan was never really 'chatty' except with a rare few friends. Although, when it came to Ben, anyone could really be considered 'chatty'. She gave him a small smile.

"Fairing well, all things considered. I'm getting a jump on homework for the next couple of weeks. Summer was actually pretty good. How was yours?"

Polite conversation was never really Rowan's forte, and she supposed that other people might find him a bit odd, but she never felt strange talking to him. He was quiet, certainly, but so was she usually. And he was rather intelligent, a trait they shared, so she felt at least on somewhat common ground with him. This was also good practice in being more social, something that she wanted to become.

"Thrilling," Ben slightly frowned, sort of regretting he'd asked her how she was. But it was the polite thing to do, and he wasn't completely socially inept. Or so he liked to think.

He took a seat across from her and cracked open a book he'd carried with him.

He didn't exactly look happy, nor happy to be chatting with her. Given that he opened a book when he sat down, she decided not to push anything further.

"Well, I'll leave you to your reading then." She said it sort of resigned, like she had interrupted him and was sorry for that. No sense pushing where you weren't wanted.
