Quinn had arrived in just enough time to witness the events of the court announcement. It was a sight to behold, for sure, and she wasn't the least bit against Adelaide's reaction. If it had been her, she would have been pissed that she lost too. It was an even bigger insult to her friend to have to stand up there next to Abernathy.
Knowing that Adelaide was probably on a warpath, Quinn decided not to seek out her friend to offer her sympathies. Instead, she turned and made her way over to the drinks table while the King and Queen had their dance. She looked around as she moved, hoping to find someone she knew that could offer some entertainment for the time being.
The refreshment table was a refuge of sorts, the watering hole for the buffalo and wildlife of the dance. There was the sad girls who boyfriends broke up with them the night before, the well (lets face it) uggos who no one was going to dance with and the kids who smelled slightly of garlic- much like the hippos and termites of the world. There was also the boys running to get drinks for their dates like a penguin fetches rocks and the hyena, taking notes behind her ridiculous mask. Bekka was in a good mood- no. Correction. She was in a great mood over the recent turn of events and (dare it be written?) smiled at the girl making her way over. Be prepared Quinn, you're about to hear a miracle.
"Now that? That is a dress. It's not even slutty." A pause as she checks one last box in the book. "You look good."
Quinn's attention returned to her destination in time to see the figure in the dress suit and mask standing beside it, though she didn't alter her path and went straight for the drinks. She couldn't make out who it was at first under the mask, but judging by the outfit and the pad of paper it was no other than Bekka.
And the last thing she expected to hear out of Bekka was a compliment. Quinn blinked for a moment in surprise, but as the second of initial shock faded she offered the girl a pleasant smile. That in itself was rare enough for her. "Thank you. You look good, too. Probably the only person in the school who could pull off an outfit like that without looking like a clown. And the mask is" hideous "interesting."
Bekka was undeniably burning calories this evening, using muscles her body had nearly forgotten she well, she smiled again. Thankfully at least, the smile could only be heard in her voice, and not seen behind the mask. Had that happened? The apocalypse would undeniably had started. "I have no interest in looking as such, so I'll take that as a compliment." She tapped her face briefly, "It's the mask of the plague doctor, if you were curious."
She did sadly, have to lift a nose of the monstrosity high enough for her to take a sip from her cup and she pocketed her book to do such. "It's been a great dance so far, hasn't it? Far better than previous years and the homecoming court. Who would've guessed a tie?" Certainly not anyone in her notes.
She gave Bekka a short nod and assured her, "It certainly was a compliment. If it had been your intention to look like a clown anyway, you failed." At the explanation of the mask, Quinn nodded in understanding. "I thought I'd seen it somewhere before."
Her purse was set on her shoulder as she went to grab herself a drink, laughing lightly at the comment about the dance. "Oh, it's been great. I never would have thought I'd see Ford and Addy standing within five feet of each other without attacking."
The mask stayed tipped back as Bekka continued to sip at her drink, for the first time in a very, very long while she was going to be able to enjoy an evening. She would collect on her money tomorrow and there was no great fears about giving too much of it away. "I certainly would have never placed money on it."
She glanced up then, almost as if to look for the infamous ladies mentioned. "You're friends with one of them, right? Between you and me... did you even vote for her?"
Sipping her drink, Quinn's eyes followed Bekka's although she couldn't find either of them. Not surprisingly. Adelaide had probably dragged her sucker of a boyfriend off somewhere to vent her rage. She didn't care where Abernathy was.
"With Adelaide," Quinn replied with a nod. "I did vote for her, actually. I want to know who ever placed the vote that brought them to a tie so I could shake their hand and thank them for the amusement, though."
"Well, sorry to break your heart Quinn, but my votes went to Rowan. Loyalty and all." Truth be told, Bekka didn't give two shits about loyalty, but Rowan was the only girl whose name she could pick out of the pile.
"When you find them, let me know and I'll pat their back and buy them a drink. They just made my month." She looked around again, but this time, she really looked and tried to make heads or tales of her next question. "What are people typically supposed to do at these things anyway?"
Quinn shrugged. She really didn't so much care about who voted for who. She nearly voted for Jenny, but at least know if Addy came demanding to know who she voted for she could answer without lying. "To each their own."
She didn't answer right away as she took another sip of her drink and went to grab a couple chips. Might as well take advantage of what was there. "Dance. Be social. Have a good time, that sort of thing."
"Right. I can do that" Bekka nodded, placing the mask back over her face. "I can have a good time." She took a step forward to the dance floor and checked herself one last time (just to make sure the book was still there.)
"You still don't look like a hooker Quinn. I'm going to go have fun."
