And we couldn't have that. Gael had to protect the younger students, even from one of their own. Not that there was anything wrong with Janis, she just took some getting used to. And Gael was already used to her, in fact he enjoyed her company and how silly she was.
He laughed along with her, taking a more secure grip on her waist. He'd hate to lose control and have her go flying off into the distance. "Don't worry, I've got you. You can hold your hat to make sure it doesn't go anywhere."
That silliness had her laughing again, she had long since lost the beat to the song and was entirely hoping the music was still going. Once she felt him hold her tighter she let her arms go around his neck and pull the hat on tighter, placing a big bow under her chin to be double sure.
"Didn't want my hair to escape!" She laughed over the din of their surroundings, "It's like the hulk, you don't like it when it's angry... and it's angry that I'm keeping a hat on it!" She didn't always make sense, and this? Was very likely one of those times.
"Where is your date?" Janis was sure he had one- he was Gael after all and Gael was a date kind of guy.
Gael had ignored the beat since the beginning, he was just twirling them in wide and sweeping circles. He did think that the same song was still on though, so at least that was a good sign that neither of them would be too dizzy when he stopped.
"Can't have that," he grinned back. "It'd probably attack all the other students and then turn on you, and I can't let that happen." He was used to her nonsensical tangents and could sort of keep up.
The question, the expectancy in it, took him aback a moment, but his recovery was nearly instantaneous. "Date? How could I have asked anyone else to the dance when you'd replaced me so easily?"
His reply to her though? Did not give an instantaneous reply, she had to blink at him several times to figure out exactly what he was saying.
"So... I'm your date? Really?" Even if that was not what he intended, it was what the poor blond had gotten from it, and she was a bit surprised. Less than a beat passed and she pulled herself up as much as she could to hug around his neck.
Now it was Gael's turn to be a little surprised. He ran with it though, hugging her back firmly, laughing a little.
"I do try," he replied, pausing their twirling. Just in time it would seem, too, as the song was finishing its last few notes. "And you're not so bad yourself."
Janis was giggling and kicking one of her feet up in the air. With a tug she had her own hat off and ready to put on Gael. So they could well... match.
"You shoulda told me! I could have made you a boy unicorn hat!" Because well, yes. She did make that hat herself. "It would've been scary and everything!"
His hats hopefully was at least in some contrast the explosion of hair that came forth once it was free. There was, well, a reason she was wearing it in the first place.
"But I was going to be a music box doll!" She pouted, but quickly started thinking again, "Do you wanna be a puppet master or a puppet? Maybe?"
Grinning, Gael reached up and mussed Janis' hair even more, his hand nearly being eaten.
He tapped his chin thoughtfully, pretending to mull it over. It wasn't that hard of a decision, though. Puppet master was infinitely superior to vampire unicorn. "Yeah, I think I could be alright with that change."
She couldn't help but giggle again and wrap both arms around him a little tighter. "You'll be the best puppet guy ever!" She leaned up then, and planted a kiss right on his nose.
"Now... now go dance with some pretty person. I've gotta go get something to drink or I'll shrivel up!"
He hugged her back firmly, grinning widely. "Especially with you making the costume." He reached up and tapped her nose in response.
"I was just dancing with a pretty person," he quipped, winking. "But you go get yourself hydrated, and maybe you can grace me with another dance later."
"I will! I promise and cross my heart and everything!" She was flushed and beaming and very, very thirsty. One last hug and she had darted off, holding onto her bag and leaving her hat with him with a bit of smugged lipstick. She'd be sorry, but well.
She was just having too much fun. It was going to be an awesome night.
