For a moment, Keegan just stared at her. He had been drinking since they arrived, had some pot along the way, and was by no means entirely sober. He was lucky if he was a little sober. Drunk Keegan was just a few steps behind in information processing.
"Yes, love you too, and no one's balls are droppin' anywhere I hope." Keegan blinked and released her hand so he could point in the general direction of the living room. " 'Cept the one on TV, which we should be watching. New year n'stuff."
"OH YEAH. THAT. I'd forgott'n all 'bout it! Can't let that happen without seein' it with youuuu." Rowan blinked owlishly up at Keegan with a big smile on her face. She never usually got this drunk, so it was something kind of new for her. Around all these people she knew - or at this point, vaguely recognized - and drunk as a skunk was a different sort of experience for the dark haired Sonnier girl.
She made her way over to a good spot where she could see the TV with her boyfriend, and was surprised to find that there was only a short time left before midnight. "I hafta say? I only wish tha'this year comin' is as good as last year was fer me. Last year was th'most amazin year for me an its all thanks t'you. An t'my other friends, but mostly t'you."
Once they safely made it to a good spot in the living room to see the television, Keegan put his arm over Rowan's shoulders. It was partly to keep himself steady, as he caught himself slightly swaying earlier, and partly to keep her from falling over.
He checked the clock countdown on the TV before looking down at Rowan with a smile. "Well, good. Even if it had nothin' at all t'do with me. And this next year will be awesome." It had to be. It was already looking to start out good.
It was a good thing that he put his arm over her shoulder like that, because Rowan was starting to feel the room get tipsy. Not her, but the room itself. She leaned against the tall blonde boy slightly and smiled. Even in her drunken haze, she still felt like the whole mass of good things that had happened to her was mostly because of Keegan.
Looking up at him she smiled broader. "Next year'll be INCREDIBLE. S'long as your there. Screw everythin else." Taking a sip of her drink, she made a face. It tasted like rum and Coke... and more rum. Oh well. Then the thought hit her. "OH HAY. I'm actually wiff someone on New Years!" Rowan might have been a little slow on the uptake. "An' my drink tastes like butt." She also might have been in the habit of saying what she was thinking.
Keegan laughed lightly as he looked down at his girlfriend, clearly amused by how she was acting. Who wouldn't be? "You, my dear, are wiff someone on New Years. Aaaand are completely wasted."
As he said the second statement, he plucked the cup out of her hand. Just to have a small sip of it himself before handing it back to her. "Not surprised you think that. It's almost straight rum. What else is in that? Coke?"
Rowan gave him what she thought was a playfully indignant look as she began to speak. "M'Not! 'F I was wasted I'd fall over and I didn't fall over so I'm not wasted. See? I can even do LOGIC. So I'm not as think as you drunk I am." And she gave him a sure nod.
When he took the cup from her, she almost protested, but then had trouble remembering why she would, so she didn't. She pondered the question seriously. "Ummm... I think its Coke? I didn't make it b'cause if I tried I'd end up wearin it instead, so someone else did it for me." she looked at the TV and blinked to clear her vision. "Oh hay! S'only a minute left!"
He turned his attention to the television when she mentioned that there was only a short amount of time left. Although there was a small issue for a moment of him seeing two of everything, both on the screen and not. A quick few blinks and everything was as it should be. For the moment.
"Okay," Keegan said as he continued to watch the tv. "Nearly wasted." Despite the fact he wasn't looking at her, he was still snickering.
When the countdown to the new year began, Keegan chanted along with everyone else in the room. A little loudly, sure, but still counting. Instead of cheering and yelling once the ball hit the bottom, he turned to lean down and give Rowan a big and happy kiss. It wasn't until he pulled back after a moment that he said, "Happy New Year."
She was about to retort when the countdown began. She shouted out numbers with everyone else, smiling and excited for this year to be over and the new one to begin. She was about to give the big shout with the crowd, the exuberant yelling of the beginning of the new year when she turned toward Keegan and was caught by him in that kiss.
She didn't know why she wasn't expecting it. This was what couples did when they rang in the new year together. But it was still a surprise. Kissing him back, just as happy and just as enthusiastic, she closed her eyes and just enjoyed it as the cheers went up around them. When he pulled back, she opened her eyes and blinked at him before giving a quiet but smiling "Happy New Year" back. The grin that broke out across her features quite clearly expressed her joy in this situation.
A small smile returned to his face as he looked down at her, not really minding the rest of the people around them. Though, he did think he heard someone yelling. Damned if he paid enough attention to it to bother to find out who or what it was.
"So I'd say your new near is already off to a good start, then. As is mine." He couldn't lie. Being drunk at a party with friends and getting to kiss his girlfriend at the very beginning of the year was a damned good start.
"This is the best start to a new year I think I've ever had..." She blinked up at the tall blonde, smiling still, and somehow still managing to hold onto her cup of alcohol. A thought popped into her head, spurned on by the events previous to this in her evening. Well, in a roundabout way.
"I can think of a way t'make the new year start out even better. If y'want to. If not, s'okay too as this is already th'best New Years in my life ever yet so far to date." It was said in a lower voice that she was certain that only Keegan could hear. Rowan was trying to be her usual self, even through the alcohol, but she couldn't just pick one phrase to describe how she felt that evening. So she used them all.
Keegan really, really, really wished he had a video camera or something. Something to capture the way his girlfriend sounded at the moment. It was hysterical (and perhaps more so as he was several drinks in himself) and wanted to be able to remember it in the morning.
"Oh you can, huh?" He smiled playfully down at her before drinking some more of his beer. A few more swigs and it would be gone. "What ideas do you have?"
