Quinn let out a long breath and plopped herself down in an empty chair. Her break had been far from fun and she was glad someone had the idea to do a party that night. Even if it was that Jeter kid. She didn't remember why she called him Jeter. She didn't even remember who or what Jeter really was.
Quinn let out a long breath and plopped herself down in an empty chair. Her break had been far from fun and she was glad someone had the idea to do a bash for the night. Even if it was that Jeter kid. She couldn't even remember why she called him that, or who or what Jeter actually was.
She'd shown up several drinks in and even brought along the bottle of whiskey she already opened up. Tonight was a night of getting piss drunk, doing dumb shit, and then going on in life like nothing ever happened.
Her eyes went to the person on the couch with her and she opened the bottle. With a tilt, she went to offer it to them. "Want some?" After a pause, she snickered and put the bottle to her lips for a long swig. "Too bad."
"Harsh, woman!" Addy rested her head on Quinn's shoulder anyway. "After I rescued you and everything!" She was only two beers into the night, even at this hour. Arriving late can have that effect, and she was excited to see all her friends more than to get wasted. For now, anyway.
"So what was the deal, anyway? It's been a while since you initiated a random emergency."
"Okay, fine," Quinn paused to take another swig before offering the bottle to Adelaide again. This time without pulling it away. "But only because I love you."
At the actual question, Quinn frowned. "The holidays suck. More than usual. Parents are intolerable and I got into a bit of a confrontation with my mom. If I stayed, it would have gotten so much worse."
She grinned and took a little swig (just a little one) and gave it back. Looked like Quinn needed it. "Oh. That does blow." Adelaide was lucky enough to have escaped the holidays with her parents-- they did not mix well. If anyone would get it, it was Quinn.
"Are you staying somewhere, or gotta go back?" Ordinarily, she'd straight up offer for her friend to stay with her. But she was staying with Leon this holidays, and she kinda didn't want to go back home if she didn't have to. Leon's parents were a lot nicer than her own.
Quinn shrugged a bit as she looked into the bottle. Absently she swirled it around while she answered. "I'm good now. I was able to go back to my Uncle's on Wednesday. Just couch surfed from Sunday until then." She caved in and took another long swing at that point. "Soon we'll be back in school and I won't have to fuckin' worry about it."
"Aww." Addy wrapped her arms around Quinn, lesbian germs be damned. "Family sucks. How much does it suck that we actually want to go back to school? Seriously. That's unnatural."
"Highly unnatural." Quinn agreed and let herself lean into Adelaide a bit in the hug. Just temporarily. "It's pretty bad we're looking forward to it, even a little. It's a worse mark on our families to be the reason for it."
She frowned for a moment. If she remembered right, Adelaide didn't spend her whole vacation at home, if any of it. She spent some of it with Leon, at least. "How was it being a Leon's?"
"Really great," she smiled, and then felt bad about being happy about it. "I mean, his parents are... not like ours. They're really nice." Leon's mum didn't think it was scandalous that she wore pants and liked sports, and Leon's dad actually seemed to think having a girl around was a novelty, as opposed to a horrible curse.
Then... "I met his extended family though, over Christmas." She turned to look at Quinn face on. "Oh my god. You think you hate him, he is fucking kitten compared to them."
Quinn was almost happy to hear that Adelaide had a good time. Not so much that she was happy that Leon's family was good, but that her friend had enjoyed herself. "Well, at least one of us had a decent time during break."
She glanced at Addy in time to see the look, and her eyebrows raised with that information. "Good lord, that must have been a ton of fun to put up with. I have enough of a problem not hitting Leon. Let alone anyone worse." In that once case, she was glad it wasn't her that had to deal with it.
Addy scratched her head a little, not sure she should be relating this. "It was like... now I'm sure the gates of hell are actually a really nice place in Paris. Yeah. Also, I mean, my French is terrible, but I'm pretty sure his grandmother called me a prostitute." Or a potato. But neither was a particularly nice thing to say, especially about someone who was standing right there.
The look on Quinn's face showed just how inappropriate it was to have said something like that in front of the intended. It didn't matter what language it was in. "That's... that's... Oh for the love of god please tell me that Leon stood up for you." If he didn't, she'd hit him just on principle.
That was a horrible situation to be in. To show it, she offered the bottle of whiskey to Adelaide again.
"He wasn't there at the time; I don't think she would have said it in front of him. And like I said, my French is bad." Why she was suddenly backtracking, she had no idea.
She took the bottle back regardless, handing it back after a somewhat longer drink this time. "Didn't make it any less uncomfortable though. I couldn't wait to get out of there. It was bad enough being in a dress." She didn't mind dresses so much, but fancy dresses? They were a whole different measure of awkward. Yes, Hell was definitely a fancy get-together in Paris.
"Ah, well." She shrugged a bit. If Leon wasn't there, there wasn't anything he could have done about. Regardless of prostitute or potato, Adelaide was neither.
She took another swig once Addy returned the bottle and she let it rest in her lap. "Well you're here and don't have to deal with it. Did you have to spend the whole time with his family or did you actually get to see more of Paris?"
"Oh god no," a little grin creeped up her face. "Leon took me for a walk around Paris. Saw the Eiffel Tower-- it's so weird you know, like, it's just a stupid tower. And that's all it is, a huge bunch of metal. But it's also 'The Eiffel Tower'. I dunno, I liked it." Some strange romantic landmark or something.
"There were a couple tourists about, and this one-- American-- goes 'I-FELL TOWAH. THE KEY TO ALL PANTIES EVAH' and the look on the girl next to him's face... I think he dropped the key."
"I guess it's one of those things that are just a little cooler in person, I suppose. Bunch of metal or not." Quinn shrugged and had to laugh at that poor guy. Or not so poor. It was a pretty bad line. "Leave it to the tourists..."
Quinn paused for a moment to take another small sip as a thought entered her head. "I haven't been to Paris. I should convince my parents to let me go one break. I'm sure they'll be glad to get rid of me for a while. Anything else worth seeing besides a giant tower?"
Addy's gaze darted to the side momentarily. Quinn definitely did not want to hear about anything that happened after that.
"Uh... probably. I didn't want to walk around the whole city all night." That wasn't a lie. She didn't like lying to Quinn. For one thing, she somehow always knew, and for another, you don't lie to your friends. Particularly when you have so few.
Suddenly, a violent vibration started near her butt. She side-eyed Quinn for a moment before realizing it was her phone. "Michi... is babysitting Leon. Great."
