Michiko had been in a weird mood. She had gotten her first full night of sleep in a month on Monday night after finally moving into the dorms. She put off leaving Isamu with her cousin for as long as possible. She already missed him, good thing he only lived ten minute car ride away. After her classes and lounging around for a bit she decided to go out to the Quodpot field and reacquaint herself.
She slipped on her flip flops and walked out to the field, completely unaware of anyone else on the field as she strolled along. Then she heard that familiar voice and snapped to attention, catching the quod just in time. Not too bad for a few months leave, she thought to herself as she smiled widely. She and Mayra had a few practice dates set up for quodpot soon, Michiko wanted to get in as much time with the quod as possible. It had been far too long. "What's up Legs?" she asked brightly tossing the quod back to her friend.
"Not a lot," Adelaide shouted back, tucking the quod under her arm so she could steer her broom towards the ground with her free hand. She could fly the broom just fine with only her legs, but steering it well became difficult.
She landed a little roughly, dumping her broom with just enough time to toss the quod up again before it exploded in her hands. "Thought I'd get the feel of it early this year." She passed it to Michi again.
Michiko grinned as Addy flew down to her and tossed the quod again. She caught it with the same grace she had on the field the last time she had played and smiled, quite pleased with herself. She tossed it back to Adelaide.
"Same here," she said. "Getting a feel for the field again. It's been too long," she said looking out at the grass with that familiar glimmer in her eyes. She loved the game, it used to be her number one love.
Addy shrugged catching the quod one-handed and lobbing it high in the air to give Michi some hang time. "You could throw the baby around," she said earnestly. "It's one way to make sure you won't miss..." She grinned wickedly
Michiko laughed. "Oh honey, remind me to never let you hold Isamu," she took a step back and caught the quod with ease. "I wouldn't miss though," she added with a grin tossing it back.
"I don't want to hold your stinky baby anyway. Hey, you could get some dodge practice in with your team, start chucking dirty diapers at them!" She was quite sure a poopy diaper to the face was worse than getting singed eyebrows from an exploding quod.
She dropped the quod then, carefully timing it to explode just as it hit the ground, leaving a little black scorch on the tips of the grass. After a moment or two, she scooped it up with her foot to Michi.
Michiko couldn't help but laugh loudly, doubling over at her friends suggestion. "He's not stinky all the time," she said finally catching her breath. "But the diaper dodge is a brilliant idea," she said nodding. "Since it was yours I'll save a few for Lalaurie too," she giggle.
She caught the quod when Addy scooped it toward her. "Maybe I could send you some baby burpie clothes," she added with a grin.
"Nah, it's cool, you can keep them." Addy pulled a face. "We've got our technique down pat anyway, it's 'don't miss or I'll kill your... whatever'. Quite effective!" She backed up a little so they could make some long tosses. "Are you missing him, or is it just like old times?"
Michiko grinned. "That's a classic technique my friend. Very medieval, I like it."
She sighed and forced a little smile. "I miss him like crazy," she admitted. "I finally got a full night's sleep though," she said brightly. "I have been missing that."
"I dunno how you even slept before he was born. You were like the size of a house for a while there; I thought you'd wake up on the floor with your bed in splinters around you!" She cackled gaily and ducked the quod aimed squarely at her head. "Be careful!" She yelled over her shoulder as she chased after it. "I already been to the nurse this week!"
Michiko had launched the quod a little more roughly than she had before with a wicked grin. "Watch it Legs, I still have a pretty good arm," she teased.
"What were you doing at the nurse already? Another fight?"
"That idiot redneck," Adelaide explained with a shrug, pitching the quod back. "Jumped me in the middle of the hallway for no good reason. I got probation because she's on her period or something."
Michiko laughed and shook her head. Oh. Yeah. She knew exactly who Addy was talking about. Abby and Addy never got along and everyone knew that very well. Michiko had no problem with either girl and usually stayed on the sidelines of their fights.
"Sure," Michiko grinned knowingly tossing the quod back. "No provocation or anything."
"For serious!" She could tell Michi didn't believe her. "I was looking at the clubs sheet in the hallway and she just shoved me. Crazy bitch started throwing punches, and then Fortis came out, jeez. Pendragon gave us the eye like crazy. She was pissed, man, for real."
Michiko had known Abby ever since they were in the lower institute. She didn't know her particularly well but she knew she wasn't the kind of girl to go throwing punches for nothing. And as much as Michiko love her strange relationship with Addy, she knew the girl could say some pretty offensive things without knowing it.
"Fortis! Dang! That man... is intense. Pendragon was probably furious because not only was it the first day back but it was you and Abby again. What did you get for detention?"
