Summary: Jake is intrigued when he finds Yevgeni wandering in the woods with his ‘mysterious bag’.

Feeling a bit tense from his experiences this week with Leon and his unsuccessful try at talking to Ciaran online, Jake felt a need to get out and do something physical. Being a 2nd dan black belt in Tae Kwon Do, he felt he needed to keep himself in constant fighting form readiness. Slipping into some comfortable practice clothes
, he packed a backpack with a water bottle, his Smartphone, some granola bars and, of course, some sour Skittles.

Heading out across the campus, Jake decided he would head into the nearby woods to find himself a clearing to practice in. Finally finding an area that had enough room for him to move around and kick, Jake tossed his backpack over by a log and started into the Eui Am Pattern. It felt so good to stretch his muscles and to strike out. He had been holding so much in…had been holding his tongue, being nice to everyone, while they talked to him with little to no respect; it took every bit of his training to control himself. “HAIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!”, he growled out, striking the air, he arms and fists, cutting through that air like razor- sharp swords. He was moving from the Choong Jang into the Ko Dang, when movement, down in the woods caught his eye.

Pausing in his practice, Jake wiped his brow and peered through the trees; he saw a dark-haired young man strolling through the woods, with a bag of some kind hung over his shoulder. The boy and the bag intrigued Jake immediately. Grabbing his water bottle, Jake took a drink and then called out, “Hey! Hello!”

Despite warnings from the head mistress and other staff, Yev could not help himself, he just needed to be in the woods and exploring things. After a quick change he threw his rucksack over his shoulder and headed for the door. Sam mewed at him impatiently. "Sam, you do want to go into the woods, it is not safe for you," he told the cat in his heavily accented voice.

She mewed again. "Fine, but you must stay in my bag," he said picking her up and slipping her in. She popped her head out to look around. "Don't scratch anything," he told her. And so the boy and his cat wandered out to the woods to go collecting samples for herbology.

He had been innocently collecting samples of herbs and stuffing them into glass jars when he heard someone calling to him. He was confused, who was calling to him? "Hello?" he shielded his eyes from the sun and looked around. Sam popped her head out of the bag.

When the boy replied to him, Jake could hear a bit of an accent. It was Eastern European of some sort…Polish, Russian, Czech, maybe? Then, before Jake could call back to him, a little cat popped it’s head out of the boy’s bag. Jake smiled immediately; he loved cats, having one as a familiar, himself. “Up here!”, he called to the boy, waving his hand.

From this distance, Jake couldn’t make out the boy’s features clearly, but he was pretty sure that he’d never seen him around school. He must be in a different house and grade. So, he was a mystery and there was nothing Jake loved more than a mystery. “Come on up! I have Granola bars and sour Skittles!”, he joked.
yevgeni From: [info]yevgeni Date: January 13th, 2011 02:56 am (UTC) (Link)
Yev finally caught sight of the friendly voice and waved. "What is a skittles?" he asked Sam before stuffing the bottles and jars into his rucksack. "Make room Sam, oh fine," he took her out and put her on his shoulder. "Better?" She mewed delightedly as Yev walked up to the older boy.

"Hello," Yev said as he approached, shifting his bag nervously. "Are you lost?" he asked concerned. He never really came across a whole lot of people in the woods these days, mostly he just stumbled upon smokers.
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 13th, 2011 03:34 pm (UTC) (Link)
When the boy waved back, Jake’s smile grew even wider, appearing to reach practically from ear to ear. Jakob noticed that the wandering boy had removed the cat from his bag and secured a few items therein. The detective in Jake zeroed in on the bag and yearned to know what it contained. As the boy got nearer, he looked so familiar, but still, Jake couldn’t place him; perhaps he had a relative who attended the school or something?

“Hello! I’m Jakob Frost, but you can call me Jake”, he greeted, offering his hand. His free hand immediately went up to the hitchhiker on the boy’s shoulder, “Any what is this little fella’s name? Oh, or little gal…”, he asked, scratching behind the cat’s ear. Chuckling, as he doted on the cat, Jake responded to the boy’s question, “No, I’m not lost. I just came out here to practice my Tae Kwon Do forms. I needed some privacy to unwind, y’know?” He tried not to be too obvious as he looked the boy over, but he thought it terribly strange how skittish the boy was being with that bag.
yevgeni From: [info]yevgeni Date: January 13th, 2011 10:21 pm (UTC) (Link)
"I'm Yevgeni," he said taking the older boy's hand and shaking it. He tended to leave his last name off because of the many connotations that came along with the name de Kooning. It was pretty obvious with that accent though. "And this is my familiar Sam, she insisted on keeping my company today," he said giving a little laugh.

"Oh," he said nodding. Yev had no idea what Tae Kwon Do was but he perfectly understood the need for privacy. "Just came out for some herb collecting," he said awkwardly shifting his feet.
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 13th, 2011 10:58 pm (UTC) (Link)
“Yevgeni!”, Jake repeated, noting that the boy didn’t give him a surname, “Lovely name”, he complimented, and meant it. He memorized this boy’s face, speaking of lovely, and determined that he would discover the missing surname later. “Ahhh, Miss Sam, is it?”, he chuckled, bending to kiss the adorable feline on the head. “I have a cat familiar too…”, he offered, “He’s a silver Bengal cat named Silk.”

Glancing at the bag, quizzically, Jake lit up, “Herbs? Nice! For cooking or conjuring?”, he asked. Thinking of his own bag, he reached down and retrieved his snacks, “Would you like a granola bar or some sour Skittles?”
yevgeni From: [info]yevgeni Date: January 14th, 2011 12:12 am (UTC) (Link)
"Oh, thank you," he said, mumbling a bit. "Oh you do?" Of course he does! He just said he did! "Oh, Silk must be a very handsome cat, yes?" he smiled. If there was one thing Yev was comfortable talking about it was animals.

He had noticed Jake's glance at the bag and absentmindedly put his hand over it again. "Yes. For conjuring. It is one of my favorite classes," he smiled. "What is this skittles?" he asked still unsure as to what the older boy was talking about. Skittles, he mused, it did not seem too suspect.
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 14th, 2011 12:39 am (UTC) (Link)
“Silk is a very handsome cat, Yevgeni, and a very spoiled cat as well”, Jake chuckled. “He will only eat one specific kind of food and one specific kind of treats and he decides when it’s time to be petted and when you need to stop”, Jake shrugged, “but he loves me.”

Again with the protective behavior towards that bag, Jake mused; it was frankly driving him crazy, even though it was really none of his business what was in Yevgeni’s bag. “You don’t know Skittles?”, he asked, with an excited smile. Ripping open the sour apple-green bag, Jake poured some in the boy’s hand, “Now, original Skittles were sweet, but these are sour, so prepare yourself, okay?”
yevgeni From: [info]yevgeni Date: January 14th, 2011 01:06 am (UTC) (Link)
Yevgeni laughed. "Sam is an easy cat," he said reaching up to scratch under her chin. "She does not ask for much but snuggles and the basics," he couldn't help but smile when Sam gave him an appreciative nudge to his face.

"I have never had these skittles," Yev said smiling up at Jake as he accepted the handful of skittles. He popped one into his mouth and his eyes squinted shut in response to the sour taste on his tongue. "Wow!" he laughed a bit. "Those are very sour," he nodded. "I like them," he said popping another one in his mouth. "Thank you for sharing," he smiled. "The next time I make some gozinakh I will share with you."

jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 14th, 2011 01:51 am (UTC) (Link)
“Awww, she does seem like a sweetheart!”, Jake agreed, fondly watching Yevgeni interact with the adorable feline. He silently wished he could have a room full of cuddly pets.

Jake watched expectantly, as Yevgeni popped the sour candy in his mouth; when the boy exclaimed Wow! Those are very sour. I like them.”, Jakob clapped his hands and laughed like a little boy. “You’re welcome. Here…”, he handed him a fresh pack to take with him, “…you can save these for later.”

“Goz-i-nak…”, Jake repeated, “I’m not sure what that is, but I’ll bet it’s delicious! I’d love to have some with you, thank you, Yevgeni!”

yevgeni From: [info]yevgeni Date: January 14th, 2011 02:10 am (UTC) (Link)
Yev nodded with a big grin. He couldn't exactly explain how dedicated he was to the tiny cat on his shoulder without going into great detail so he left it at that.

"Thank you!" he said popping the skittles into his bag, he was careful to keep the contents completely concealed with the flap of the bag. "I will keep them in my rucksack until later, I do not want to spoil my dinner," he laughed.

"Gozinakh! Very good!" Yevgeni said excitedly when Jake had pronounced it right. "It is walnut honey candy. It is very much like peanut brittle," he explained. "I think you will like it very much."
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 14th, 2011 01:19 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yevgeni had such a nice smile; it was good to see such a friendly boy here at CCI. So many of the other guys hid behind tough guy attitudes or were the very definition of teen angst. Sometimes, Jake wondered if emo didn’t have it’s roots here.

So, he calls it a rucksack. I’ll have to Google that and see what the usual use for a rucksack is, Jakob thought. Jake smiled, “Nope, don’t spoil your dinner”, he agreed. Taking a deep breath, he brushed a few stray blond locks from his eyes and changed the topic entirely, “So, Yevgeni, you look so familiar to me, but I know we’ve never met. Do you have relatives who attend CCI?”

“Walnut honey candy?”, Jake repeated, his blue eyes going wide, “That sounds delicious!” Suddenly, he could feel his mouth watering for the tasty treat. “Maybe you could stop by my room some time and meet Silk, I think he would like you. I’ll order us lunch or dinner and you can bring the Gozinakh. I have lots of stuff to do there…video games, music, books. Lots of stuff.”
yevgeni From: [info]yevgeni Date: January 14th, 2011 11:41 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Oh," he mumbled much more quietly than before. "Yes, uh two brothers Anastas and Kazimir de Kooning."

"It is very good," he said, reminding himself to stop mumbling. "My babushka used to send it to me once a year, but it was never enough so I learned to make it all on my own," he said that big grin returning. "That would be very nice," he nodded. "Perhaps Sam can come to meet Silk too," he suggested.
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 15th, 2011 01:55 am (UTC) (Link)
"Ohhhhh! That's the resemblance! You are related to the de Kooning brothers!", Jake exclaimed. Looking Yevgeni over now, with a half-smile on his face, Jake commented, “I think you resemble Anastas more than Kazimir, but you definitely have your very own personality!”

His babushka, if Jakob could remember the tiny bit of Russian he knew, Yevgeni was talking about his grandmother. “I’m sure your Grandma would be proud of the way you make her gozinakh, Yevgeni”, he praised the dark-haired boy.

Jakob lit up at the prospect of his new friend coming to visit, “Please…YES! Bring Sam! Silk would love to meet her. He loves to visit with the other familiars. He’s a very social creature.”

Sitting on a log and hugging his knees, Jake requested, “tell me about yourself, Yevgeni. What sorts of things do you like to do? What are your favorite classes? Is there a lucky girl you have your eyes on?”
yevgeni From: [info]yevgeni Date: January 15th, 2011 04:01 am (UTC) (Link)
It was nice to hear that someone didn't have expectations of him, that someone had seen the difference between him and his brothers. He gave Jake a genuine smile. "Yes, yes we are very different my brothers and I. They are loud, too loud," he said with a grin.

"Thank you," Yevgeni nodded. "Although, I'm sure she would think my gozinakh is not sweet enough," he grinned. "She has... um... what do you say.... a sweet tooth!" he said excited that he had remembered the saying.

Yevgeni plunked down opposite Jake, with his bag settled at his side. Sam hopped down from his shoulder and began exploring around Yev's feet. "Oh... uh..." He was not used to people asking questions about him, but he figured he would answer. "I love to be outside," he said. "My favorite classes are care of magical creatures and herbology. I'm good at those ones, I hate wandwork though, it's so... silly," he laughed trying to cover up the inadequacy he felt when it came to charms.

Oh the dating question. How the world of dating confused and terrified him. He shook his head. "There are many beautiful girls on campus but no one special for me," he decided. It was an honest answer and one he felt summed up his outlook on romance.
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 15th, 2011 05:01 am (UTC) (Link)
Jake laughed when Yevgeni explained that he and his brothers were very different, “I know what it’s like to be the younger brother. I have two older brothers…and, ummm, well, they weren’t…aren’t very nice”, he related.

“Ahhhh, a sweet tooth! I had a bit of a sweet tooth when I was a kid, but I’m not so bad now. I just like my sour Skittles now and then”, he admitted, with a grin, “I have to keep in decent shape for my martial arts.”

It was nice when Yevgeni sat down with him; like two friends sharing, “Ooooo! Care of Magical Creatures! I took that last year. I loved it so much! Your love of being outdoors and your love of Herbology sort of go hand in hand, don’t they?”, he chatted. “I like Defense Against the Dark Arts. It makes me feel like I can protect people should a dark wizard or witch show their face…”, he shrugged, “…goofy, huh?”

Jake smiled, watching Yevgeni’s face, as he answered the question about girls. “There are many beautiful girls on campus…”, he agreed, “…and there will always be beautiful girls on campus. They’ll wait for you to clear up some free time for them.”
yevgeni From: [info]yevgeni Date: January 15th, 2011 05:46 am (UTC) (Link)
Yev brightened right up and almost started spouting off in Russian but he contained himself. "We have very much the same situation," he nodded. "Not very nice older brothers, except I have three of them. Valentin is not so bad, but he is very far away," he shrugged. It was nice to talk to someone who could understand.

"Martial arts? That is what you were doing just now?" he asked inquisitively. Sure, curiosity should have told him to ask that earlier but he was distracted by sweets and trying to hide his secrets. "How long have you been practicing this?"

"Oh yes! Nature makes sense to me in a way that charms does not," he explained. "I know that there have been many warnings about being in the woods but I am peaceful here, I understand it here," he said thoughtfully. "That is not goofy at all Jake!" he commented about his new friend's want to protect people. "That also makes sense with your martial arts training, yes?"

"You think so?" he asked the older boy. There was more to it than that but he was not particularly open to talking about it in detail at the moment.
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 15th, 2011 06:13 am (UTC) (Link)
“It seems we have very similar backgrounds, Yevgeni!”, Jake agreed in amazement, “My two older brothers were pretty mean to me when I was growing up and they are actually not very nice people in general. My dad is wonderful though…”, he shrugged, “…not sure how my brothers got so bad.” He looked at Yevgeni and gave him a knowing smile, “I have classes with your brother, Kazimir”, he didn’t expound on that or feel he needed to say anything further; his younger brother would understand.

“Yes, I was practicing Martial Arts when I spotted you…Tae Kwon Do, to be specific. I am a 2nd Dan, or 2nd degree black belt”, he inhaled the fresh air in the woods, “I like to come out here to practice. It’s good for my head”, he pointed to his temple. “If you ever want to learn any martial arts, Yevgeni, I’m a qualified instructor”, he offered.

“I think it’s wonderful that you enjoy nature so much”, Jake flattered and meant it, “It’s good for your mind and body and you will be an expert on where to find the things we need for our spells and potions and such.” He canted his head at this boy he’d just met, “Yes…yes! Physical and magical protection! You already understand me!”

“Sure, I know so, Yevgeni. Just be sure to choose a nice girl. There are girls here who are both nice and beautiful and you should have no problem getting one of them.” Jake scrunched his face a bit, “I’d hate to see a nice guy like you get a nasty girl who is mean to him.”
yevgeni From: [info]yevgeni Date: January 15th, 2011 06:56 am (UTC) (Link)
"Yes, it is not easy being the little brother," he nodded. "Though my brothers are equally mean to each other as well. Whenever we are all home at the same time I drown out the fighting with my piano. I have to tune out my dad too," he said more quietly. Yev gave Jake a smirk back. "That is a most unfortunate coincidence, and often why I do not give my last name," he said about his brother.

"I must warn you, I am not very good a sports and my coordination is something to be concerned about. I do not think I would make a very good student but I would be willing to learn," he smiled easily.

Yev beamed at Jake, not once had anyone ever said that Yev understood one aspect about them! It was a day to mark on the calendar! "Yes, I think it is good too. Everyone these days is lost in their technology and completely disconnected from nature. I do not think it is healthy."

Yev nodded and smiled, he still wasn't sure if he wanted to try out dating but surely if he dated a nice girl it wouldn't turn out so bad! "Yes, you're right, I would not want to be with a mean girl," he nodded. "I already have mean brothers, I do not want anymore mean people in my life," he said quite sure of himself.
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 16th, 2011 04:14 am (UTC) (Link)
Jake listened attentively as Yevgeni spoke to him of his situation, “I’m so sorry you have to deal with mean brothers, Yevgeni”, Jakob soothed, he seemed like such a nice boy; it just didn’t seem fair. It was sad that anyone felt like they needed to hide their surname. “Piano? You play the piano?”, Jake exclaimed, “I really must hear you sometime…please? I love the piano!”

“I will help you with your balance and coordination. No pressure. No team to push you. Sport and exercise just for you, at your own pace”, Jake patted him on the back, “You will see. You’ll be a great student.”

Jake couldn’t believe that Yevgeni was only a sophomore; his views on life and living it were so much more mature than many seniors he had spoken to. His brothers could probably learn a thing or two from him if they’d give him a chance. “I agree. We all need to get outside more and exercise our bodies as much as our minds.”

A huge grin spread across Jake’s face, “No, you don’t want a mean girl! No more meanies for us little brothers, right?!” Jake laughed, “We should create a Little Brother’s Union at school!”
yevgeni From: [info]yevgeni Date: January 16th, 2011 06:03 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Thank you Jake, you are very kind," he saidone my with a gentle smile. He didn't like to linger too long on his family. "Yes! I love the piano, anytime you would like to listen you are welcome," he said happily. "It is one of my favorite things."

"I am sure you will be a good teacher," he nodded. It was exciting trying new things and Yevgeni had a love of learning that could never be quite satisfied.

"Exactly!" he agreed enthusiastically. "I spend most of my time outside, it is a blessing that we came to America, it is often cold in Russia. Not warm enough to me to be outside so much," he laughed.

"I agree! I think there are many brothers who could benefit. I feel like many people judge me before they know me and having three older brothers who are the way they are... I can not blame them," he shrugged. "Perhaps a little brother's union would help!" he grinned.
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 17th, 2011 05:47 pm (UTC) (Link)
Jake immediately thought to buy a grand piano for Yevgeni and have it delivered as a surprise. He would love to see the look on the boy’s face when he received it; Yevgeni deserved such a piano, having to deal with nasty older brothers. NO, WAIT!, he warned himself, I could scare him off. It’s happened before…people don’t get me. Maybe I should wait. “Sounds like a plan, Yevgeni! I can’t wait to hear you play.”

With a grateful smile, Jake replied, “I hope to be a good teacher, but I know I can promise to be an enthusiastic teacher and a patient one.” He knew Yevgeni would be good at the martial arts forms; he could just feel it. In Jake’s mind, the boy was musical and in touch with nature, so the forms, given time, would just flow through him.

“I’m very glad you came to America, Yevgeni!”, Jake informed his new friend. He couldn’t say the same for the boy’s brothers; he didn’t like to lie, unless it was absolutely necessary.

Jake laughed deeply, when Yevgeni played along with his silliness. Just imagine an actual Little Brother’s Union! He liked this Yevgeni de Kooning. In Jake’s opinion, if the boy stuck to his guns and just remained himself, he’d be well liked on campus.

Petting Sam, who had curled around his leg, Jake looked at Yevgeni and smiled; he had so many things he wanted to ask him. Digging into his backpack, he produced two granola bars, “Like one?”, he offered. “So, do you ever go back to Russia to visit?”
yevgeni From: [info]yevgeni Date: January 20th, 2011 04:43 am (UTC) (Link)
"I look forward to learning from you Jake, and perhaps I can show you a few scales on the piano," he offered with a smile. He looked very forward to sharing knowledge with his new friend.

Yevgeni giggled about the Little Brothers Union and shook his head. He was glad to be able to show someone his good sense of humor, it was often missed by most of the other students as he was so shy.

"Oh, thank you! You have come prepared today," he said brightly accepting the granola bar. "Oh yes, we go back to Russia every summer, the whole family," he nodded. "Though we did not go abck this past summer because of the wild fires," he said a bit sadly. "Where are you from?"
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 20th, 2011 01:36 pm (UTC) (Link)
“You would teach me to play the piano?”, Jake asked, a bit surprised to be offered something in return. He could feel the color coming into his cheeks and himself getting a little choked up; nobody ever really offered him anything in return for things. “I’d love to learn the piano”, he stated plainly. What a sweet guy Yevgeni was; although Jake mainly dated girls, he was attracted to guys as well and Yevgeni was certainly beautiful. Not only was this boy lovely in appearance, he was interesting and had a kind nature. Jake needed to keep himself in line, because Yevgeni was obviously heterosexual; the older boy didn’t want to risk their friendship by doing or saying something stupid.

Jake laughed along with his newfound friend and then listened as he spoke of his family and their travels.

“I’m so sorry you missed your trip abroad this summer, Yevgeni”, Jake soothed, “Do you enjoy your time there? Do you have lots of cousins?” He smiled, when asked where he was from, “Oh, not too far from here. My family has a…place…in Plano, Texas. You can come visit sometime, if you’d like. We can floo there in no time.” He patted Yevgeni on the back, “I won’t even make you meet my brothers”, he chuckled.
yevgeni From: [info]yevgeni Date: January 21st, 2011 01:40 am (UTC) (Link)
"Of course I will teach you," Yevgeni nodded. "It is very easy to learn but difficult to master," he said sagely. "I think you have the patience for piano," he smiled, knowing that martial arts took patience and training.

Yev nodded. "Thank you, it was a very... boring summer in Hesperia with my father and brothers," he sighed. "I really do enjoy visiting Russia, there is so much that the family can teach us," he beamed. It was nice to visit and he imagined it would be nice to live there where he at least had some family that seemed to relate to him.

"Oh! That sounds nice," Yev nodded. "I would really like to visit your home some time," he said. Yevgeni had never really been to a friend's house before, it could be a step in the right direction when it came to proper socializing.

jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 21st, 2011 12:45 pm (UTC) (Link)
Jake smiled, munching on his granola bar; it was so sweet of Yevgeni to offer to teach him piano. “I have no doubt that it is difficult to master”, he agreed. His eyes smiled at Yevgeni, “That’s very kind of you to say. I work on my patience and control a little every day.”

“Hesperia?”, Jake asked, “Where is that exactly? Is that in America?” He canted his head at the other boy and munched down the rest of his granola bar, tossing the wrapper in his backpack. He nodded his head in agreement to Yevgeni’s statement about family, “I totally agree. I actually have cousins who are more like brothers to me than my own brothers and my dad is almost like a mom and dad to me”, he confessed.

Jake grinned widely, “Then it’s a date! Well, you know…not like a boy/girl date…a plan…that’s it! We will plan to have you come over to my house for a visit!” Jake wondered what the poor boy would make of Frost Castle and the massive surrounding Estate.

“So, Yevgeni, were you heading back to the school yet? I should be getting back. If you are going back now, we can walk together”, Jake offered.
yevgeni From: [info]yevgeni Date: January 22nd, 2011 06:10 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yevgeni nodded and smiled as he ate his granola bar. "I think patience is an important thing to practice daily," he grinned.

"Oh! It's in California. That is where we live with our father when we are not in school," he explained. "It is very hot," he laughed. He gave Jake an understanding look when he spoke of his father and his cousins. His father was not much like a father and definitely did not pick up the slack from his mother. "My father is a bully if anything," he admitted with a sheepish smile.

"Sounds good to me," he agreed with a nod. "It sounds like a lovely escape from school."

"I probably should," he said sneaking a peak at his watch. "I hadn't realized how the time was flying!" He stood up, shoving the wrapped from his granola bar into his rucksack. "Sam, do you want a ride?" he asked bending over to let the little cat hop into his hands. She mewed appreciatively as Yev placed her on his shoulder.
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 22nd, 2011 08:27 pm (UTC) (Link)
It seemed Jake and Yevgeni both understood the importance of patience; how strange, he thought to just be meeting this boy and to have so much in common with him. Jake had a good feeling about Yevgeni and hoped their friendship would grow.

“Cali, eh?’, he grinned, “Do you ever go surfing?” He shook his head in understanding, “Plano gets kinda hot in the summertime too. I’m not too fond of the heat; Autumn is my favorite season”, he winked, “I imagine the heat must really be rough on you since you are used to Russian weather.”

“We will make it fun”, he commented on the future trip to his house.

As they rose to leave, Jake gave Yevgeni a pat on the back, “Time has flown for me too. It’s because your company has been so pleasant”. He watched as Yevgeni lifted Sam on up to his shoulders, “She’s so sweet!”, he chuckled, hoisting his backpack over his shoulder.

Heading back towards the school, Jake asked, “Hey, Yevgeni, I never did ask you which House you were in! I’m in Rienzi House, which are you in?”
yevgeni From: [info]yevgeni Date: January 25th, 2011 07:30 am (UTC) (Link)
"Oh no," Yevgeni laughed gently. "I have never been very good at sports," he shook his head. "I was always more interested in searching around the rocks for different mosses," he grinned.

"The heat is terrible, everything is so dry." Yevgeni had at this point in his life spent more time in the harsh warm climates of America than he had in Russia but he as Jake had surmised, Yev was still not acclimated to the heat. "I'd take the cold any day!"

Yevgeni smiled. "It was very nice talking with you," he agreed. It wasn't often that Yev found himself falling into pleasant conversations with people. "I'm in House Sonnier," he said with a subtle proudness.
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 25th, 2011 03:47 pm (UTC) (Link)
“We shall see if we can’t make you an athlete yet!”, Jake replied with a bright smile. “It won’t take anything away from your plant gathering.”

“Yeah, same here…”, Jake agreed, “…the cold is far easier to deal with than the heat. “ He shook his head, “Boy does Louisiana have some hot, humid summers too, though.”

“Sonnier!”, that made Jake grin, “I should have known, Yevgeni! You’re one of the brainiacs! Smart, nice and good-looking…you are going to have to beat the girls away with a stick!”, he teased. As they parted ways, Jake let Yevgeni know how much he’d enjoyed meeting him and that he would contact him to set up a time to visit Frost Estates. Heading to Rienzi House, Jakob found that he somehow already missed the friendly boy’s company.

Yev nodded enthusiastically, he was definitely excited about the prospect of learning a sport. It was better that his teacher seemed to be far more patient.

Yev chuckled, the image of him fighting off girls with a broom has somehow wiggled its way into his brain he he couldn't help himself. As they parted ways he waved off his new friend and walked back to Sonnier thinking that today had been one of his more successful escapades into the woods.
