Dear Sunny,

I will take you out to Dana Point in the early morning when the beach is clear and free of people. It is best when mostly empty and the waves are sharp. There are spots where the beach is known only by locals; those are the best.

I will take you with me when we are back at school. I do not think that taking pictures is the same as drawing them. I have sketched before and it does not strike me as the same. You need to have the same critical eye, but it is different to capture a moment. When you draw you create a moment entirely. When you photograph you can only work within certain parameters.

You would want to cuddle with me? It can most certainly be arranged. I believe that Scrabble will be an interesting challenge. I cannot promise that other board games will be much fun, but I am curious about what you do on a night that does not involve drinking. I will take the challenge of educating you about Russia and our space program. I am certain there are many things American educators get wrong.

You cannot make up your mind about me, can you? I will not carry on with tales of how delicious it was; I would not want to upset your sensibilities. As per vegan cooking, I will try it if you will cook it.

Always,
Stasi

Dear Stasi,

That sounds lovely. Local spots are always better than anything else, they’re more genuine. The less crowded, the better. I’ve always been more of a morning person, so that’s a plus.

I look forward to it and hearing more about your theory. I never thought of it like that, I always just thought to capture the moment with my drawing. That’s kind of my general philosophy though.

Yes. No. Yes. As long as you keep a safe distance from my cupcakes. Scrabble is the best! Don’t even worry about it, spending a night without booze is just as much fun as partying. Trust me, you won’t get bored. Maybe I can teach you how to juggle. I’m sure you’re right. American teachers don’t teach it if it makes American look bad! We never do anything wrong, that’s blasphemy!

Is it that obvious? Well, yeah, I guess it is. I wish you were that easy to read. It’s not a bad thing though is it? Thanks but my sensibilities are already pretty upset. Poor baby cows. It’s a good thing you will try vegan cooking because once I get started it’s kind of hard to stop.

Yours,
Sunny

Dear Sunny,

I am not so much of a morning person myself. Usually because I am hung over. I always liked to stay up late when I was a kid.

Perhaps your drawings do capture moments. I would like to see them. You must explain to me your philosophy on capturing. I am curious about your application of this philosophy to men.

Half of the thrill is trying to get closer to your cupcakes. Which you also want to feed me. I am a bit confused about what you really want. I do not think I am coordinated enough to juggle, but I would find it entertaining to watch you.

If I were that easy to read you would have lost interest in me weeks ago. So no, it is not a bad thing that you cannot make up your mind about me. I trust in your desire to change my diet, but I can assure you that I will firmly remain an omnivore. I will do my best to not eat meat in front of you though. I can be nice when I try.

Always,
Stasi

Dear Stasi,

I’m not too surprised by that but I do appreciate you offering to wake up early for surfing. I know that a lot of people don’t really do mornings. Being hung over never helps. I liked to pretend to stay up late when I was a kid. I never made it past ten thirty until I was a freshman.

I would like to show you my drawings, it would be nice to get a critique on them. My favorite are the charcoal drawings I’ve done. I... uh... I’m pretty oblivious when it comes to men. I don’t think I have a philosophy on guys.

There are two kinds of cupcakes we’re talking about here. The cupcakes you’re not allowed to touch and the vegan cupcakes you can eat. So... yeah. Jerk. Everyone says they’re not coordinated enough to juggle, I didn’t think I was either. I trip over myself all the time and I can still juggle! You at least have to try it. If you’re brave enough to try my vegan cooking, you should be brave enough to try juggling. Promise I won’t make fun of you.

If that were true then what keeps you around? I don’t want to know, never mind. Well thanks but I bet you won’t even notice when my vegan food starts infiltrating your diet. I know you can be nice, sometimes. I wouldn’t hang out with you if you were a chamaco all the time.

Yours,
Sunny

Dear Sunny,

We could go out near sunset, but the visibility is horrible and that is when sharks like to feed. I believe that is what I learned from Shark Week this year. Your father would never let you come back to Hesperia if I let you get eaten by sharks.

I am hardly qualified to critique. I can share my opinion. Do you draw in other mediums? I prefer black and white photography; to me it is a greater challenge than color photography. It takes skill to make a picture without any colors. It becomes entirely focused on the composition.

We must work on your philosophy on men. No woman should wander the world before knowing her position in this regard. You will be eaten by sharks that do not swim in the ocean, and that do not know how to play fair. Sharks like me.

I do appreciate your offer, but I will refrain from learning to juggle. I do not worry that you would make fun of me. Others however...

You most certainly did want to know, otherwise you would not have asked. You are not as easy to read as you think Sunny Garcia. What is this chamaco? If I am not one all of the time then I must be one some of the time. I imagine it is during those times that you punch me. It should come as no surprise to you that I do not mind these times at all.

Always,
Stasi
