Jenny/Charlie

Jenny had no intention of staying late, and she didn't plan to show up late either. She was one of the first ten or so people to trickle into the clearing. She glanced around to see who was there, other than Charlie, someone to kill some time with. She didn't want to just run up and hand him a present right away, she'd look desperate, not to mention stupid. She had already felt stupid enough lately with everything with Sera, and that was bad enough. She'd even found herself looking around for Quinn, which was a whole other can of worms so to speak.

But pushing those problems away, Jenny took a deep breath, trying to pump herself up for the night. If she came, she might as well have fun with it. Probably Ella would show up later, she wouldn't miss a party, and then Jenny figured she could just align herself with her sister's side for the remainder of the night.. or hopefully so.

Finally giving up on appearing casual and nonchalant, the blonde shifted the paper bag she was holding in her arms, noticing that Charlie was alone for a moment, no longer distracted with greeting party arrivals. She sighed gently, moving her way over, weaving past a group of girls splitting up a case of beer. She held the bag out to Charlie when she reached him, a dismissive look on her face with a hint of a smile. She held the bag as if it were paining her to do so, nudging it at him.

"Here, happy birthday," she said simply.

Charlie grinned as he saw Jenny, taking the bag off her and peering inside curiously. "I'm glad you came, Princess. What's this though" he teased, reaching into the bag and smiling as he took out each item. Until, that is, he got to the Madonna CD. He shook his head, but laughed anyway.

"Will you ever change?" he asked, flipping the CD over to read the back skeptically.

"Would you like me to change?" Jenny replied quickly, fixing him with a faint little smile. She had felt cold when walking up to him, stern, just ready to get him over with. But it amazed her how his smile always managed to break down any tough exterior she was faking. It had worked during their whole relationship, and it still worked now.

"I figured you could use something good and feminine to listen to in that sausagefest you call musical taste."

"Never" he said, a little less playfully, shrugging one shoulder.

He looked a little hurt at her comment about his music, pouting slightly he tried to defend himself. "I listen to women. Janis Joplin was a girl, right?"

Jenny couldn't help but smile, shaking her head a little at him. "Yes, but she was like.. one of the only cool things you ever played in your whole car," she reminded him, sticking her tongue out a little.

"Seriously though, your musical adventures were so much diverse when I drove with you."

Re: Jenny/Charlie

"My fucking driving has improved now I don't have to listen to Fernando, or whatever"

"You fucking love Fernando, it's a good song!" Jenny replied, furrowing her brow at him. "I made you give new stuff a chance!"

"Fernando is a dick" Charlie laughed, putting an arm around Jenny and squeezing her shoulder briefly. "Nothing beats the King though" he reminded her, holding the t-shirt up proudly to his chest.

"I could never separate a boy and his King," Jenny replied softly, smiling some as she leaned into his arm. "I'm just glad you like it."

"You're a good gift giver. Well, for the most part." Charlie looked at the Madonna CD again and rolled his eyes. "Do you want a drink? I've stashed some soda over here for if you came" he mumbled, scratching the back of his neck and kicking at a box under his sweater.

"I'm an excellent gift giver," Jenny teased him, giving him a little nudge. When he offered her the soda, she was a little surprised. He had always remembered soda for her when they had been together, but that had been a long time ago. Or so it seemed to feel. She was glad he remembered, and she smiled gently, nodding.

"I'd love some," she assured him, squeezing his arm.

Charlie ripped open the box, removing a bottle of soda and pouring it into a red plastic cup. It was pretty much the motions he used to go through when they were together. Handing her the drink he took a sip of his own beer leisurely.

"How are you finding the new term?" he asked her, surprising himself by being actually interested.

Jenny accepted the cup gratefully, taking a quick sip from it as he spoke to her. Once she was at least a little more hydrated, she smiled, shoulders shrugging. "I dunno, it's the same as ever, I guess? Some stuff seems like it's going to be a lot harder this year, but.. just means I need to study more."

She paused, watching some people wander by them, before returning her eyes to Charlie. "What about you, Mister Senior? Head of the class?"
