Pumping Emilie ;)
Characters: Jake and Emilie
Setting: The CCI Art Room
Content: Hmmm, I’m sure some swearing may be involved.
Summary: Jake follows Emilie to pump her for info

Flying class really kicked ass for Jake today; he zoomed down to the landing field and landed, jumping off of his broom with a good ol Texas YEEEEEEE HAAAAAW!, drawing laughs from some of the other students and a sigh from the instructor. Placing his broom back on it’s rack and hanging up his gear, Jake hurried to a mirror to brush his tangled mop of blond hair into a shiny, silky coif.

Pleased now that he was presentable, Jake hurried into the hallway and then…stopped…Emilie Devlin had just past him, headed for who knows where. She hadn’t noticed him, but Jake sure knew who she was; her trail of chaos spoke for itself around CCI.

Following the green-haired Satanist down the hallway, Jake was more than a little surprised when he saw her enter the Art room, What is she going to do in there? Oh, shit! I hope she’s not going to vandalize the paintings! My stuff is in there and it hasn’t been graded yet! Hurrying into the art room, Jake came face to face with Emilie Devlin, “Oh…uh, hey! Just coming in to do some work on a painting”, he raised his hand in greeting, “Name’s Jake…Jake Frost…”

Emilie looked up from her bag, she'd brought some extra brushes from New York and was already busy opening up the packaging them and organizing them in a order she felt she could use them in. The typical high-school art student was usually left with the battered little skuzzy brushes that students had left drying in acrylics overnight. Even if you could use magic to clean them, she couldn't stand how other students refused to respect the communal supplies, and insisted on getting her own.

This also meant she got to have the nice white synthetic brushes. She brushed her thumb over one of the soft white brush tips when an unfamiliar voice spoke up and she glanced up.

...It was a Quodpot player and he was talking to her. Emilie scowled, her voice deadpan when she finally spoke.

"...Hi."

Seemed that Emelie was unwrapping new brushes; Jake bought his own brushes too…his father had them ordered from an art studio in Paris and sent them to Jake regularly. “Yikes! That ‘Hi’ was like someone sucking a lemon”, he mused, to himself.

Deciding to ignore the acidic greeting and move along, Jake smiled and made conversation about the brushes, “Smart to use your own brushes. I do the same thing. That way you can guarantee they aren’t all mucked up.”

Surprising himself, Jake looked Emilie over and decided that she was actually pretty hot, up close. He didn’t even mind the green hair…it was, to tell the truth, excitingly exotic. Clearing his throat and trying to clear his mind, Jake decided he needed to keep himself on the ball. “So, hey, whatcha painting?”, he asked, conversationally. He actually wanted to ask if she were in league with Ciaran and/or Lisette and what plans they had to destroy the school, but he would carefully probe into that later.

Emilie stared at him blankly, setting the brush in her hands down and opening another pack. Yeah, that was exactly why she used her own brushes. Thank you, Captain Obvious!

When he asked about her painting, she raised her eyebrows as if to say 'Really?' Had he just not noticed?

"That," She pointed behind her, tone still flat, to the large canvas in the other side of the room. It was more of her same fare, one of the circles of hell, its inhabitants nude, though mostly blurry for the sake of the school, and all clamoring to get out, crawling over each-other in sheer terror. Across from them a white figure stood alone on a ledge. It was what Emilie had come to finish painting today. She didn't expect him to like it.

Whew was it cold in here or what?, Jake jokingly thought to himself; Emilie was treating Jake like a leper masseuse. He wanted, so badly, to say, ‘Careful, Mama says, If you make that face, it will stay that way!’…but he knew better. He didn’t want the Satanist to put one of her brushes through his eyeball.

When she indicated the painting that was her’s, Jake checked it out. “Nice…”, he complimented, “…inspired by Dante?”, he asked. He wasn’t just kissing up; Emilie actually did have talent. The painting drew a feeling of anxiety from Jakob, the bodies futilely crawling over each other to escape their torment; he had to look at it on a surface level only and try not to go too deep. “Powerful…”, he commented as he turned back to the girl.

“I’m working on a piece about Icarus”, he told her, in case she wondered…but he had his doubts.

"Thanks," She replied gruffly. It didn't exactly sound sincere. She didn't like it when Quodpot players were nice to her. It usually meant they were up to something.

"Let me guess, you've watched the Constantine movie or something?" She kept sorting the items in her kit, peeling open the last package of brushes.

"Icarus?" She echoed, not looking up from her things. "Seems a little..." Emilie glanced up at him finally, "true to life, doesn't it?"
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 26th, 2011 02:39 pm (UTC) (Link)
“You’re welcome”, Jake replied, refusing to be ruffled by the contrary girl, “Gotta give the devil his due, eh?”, he added, with a grin.

“Yeah, I’ve seen Constantine, but I was thinking more of Michelangelo’s Last Judgment or the paintings by Hieronymus Bosch”, Jakob responded to Emilie’s comments about her painting.

Now, Jake had to laugh, “You think I fly too close to the sun?”, he crossed his arms and shook his head, “The grass is always greener…etcetera.”

Emilie rolled her eyes. So the Quodpot player had cracked open an art history book? Big deal. Anyone could just throw names around too feel like a big-shot if they wanted.

"The only similarity between my work and Bosch's would be the subject matter. Nice try, jockstrap." She picked up her kit, all her brushes and paints safely squared away in its compartments and made her way over to her painting.

"The meaning goes a little bit deeper than that," she offered, tone matter-of-fact, turning her back to him and staring at her painting.
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 26th, 2011 03:34 pm (UTC) (Link)
“Oh my God! The eye-rolling now!, Jake shook his head incredulously, How smug she is, thinks she just knows it all

“What similarity were you looking for, Devilchild?”, he retorted, moving over to his own class’s work, sorting through the canvases for his own. “…and what’s with this ‘jockstrap’ shit, anyway? I’m not on any of the school teams.”

“Ahhh, deeper! Sorry, I should have realized you were so very deep”, Jake chuckled, pulling out his canvas and placing it on an easel, “Why don’t you explain it to me then?”

babalon From: [info]babalon Date: January 26th, 2011 03:45 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Oh, I'm sorry." Sarcasm was coming off of her voice in waves. "I had just assumed. I mean," she turned to look at him, smiling sweetly. "Looks like an idiot, talks like an idiot. You understand, don't you? Or was my assumption correct?"

jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 26th, 2011 04:28 pm (UTC) (Link)
Annnnnnnnd the sarcasm!, Jake wanted to laugh, but it would have been extremely counter-productive.

Unpacking his brushes, Jake was totally unmoved by Emilie’s attempted insult; he’d been harassed and insulted by his older brothers his entire life. Anything she could say to him couldn’t hold a candle to the hurt they had put him through.

“Are you trying to apologize?”, Jake asked, pretending to not understand what she was actually saying, “Please, Emilie, I don’t think you’re an idiot at all. Just be careful when you assume. You know what they say?”, he gave her a cheesy smile, “When you ‘assume’, you make an ass out of u and me.” He tried to keep a straight face after he’d said it, but was having a hard time, so he turned back to his painting, opening the gold, brown and orange.
babalon From: [info]babalon Date: January 26th, 2011 05:38 pm (UTC) (Link)
"It's a little too late for you, don't you think?" Emilie yawned, going back to her work. Who the hell did this kid think he was? She did her best to look bored.

Maybe he wouldn't want to talk to her anymore.
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 26th, 2011 05:51 pm (UTC) (Link)
Jake had to laugh at that; she wanted to get rid of him. Well, good luck, sister!

“Nope, not late at all!”, he replied, in an overly perky voice. “Don’t go worrying about me, babe, I’m a big boy!” He reached down and adjusted himself with his free hand as he detailed the flames on Icarus’ wings.

babalon From: [info]babalon Date: January 26th, 2011 06:08 pm (UTC) (Link)
"I'm not worried," Emilie said blandly, pulling a fine detail brush from her kit and wetting the tip with some water. "I'm calling you an ass."

She just couldn't help arguing, could she? Maybe it would help if she found her headphones and started listening to some music. She pondered this briefly, digging through her bag to see if she could find them.
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 26th, 2011 06:30 pm (UTC) (Link)
Oh, please! She had no sense of humor and behaved like a sore-assed bear, Jake mused, No wonder she got on so well with the serial killer.

“You should worry”, Jake replied calmly, as he painted, “You don’t even know me and you’re acting like a total bitch…”, he switched to a finer brush, “…I think you need to go to the infirmary and get that pole removed from your ass.”

babalon From: [info]babalon Date: January 26th, 2011 07:04 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Excuse me?" Emilie snapped, turning sharply to face him. She was shaking a little as she spoke, her fist clenched around her paintbrush.

"I should worry? Me? I think you had best be shutting the fuck up and backing the fuck off, or I will cut off that tiny little dick you're so proud of and feed it to you."
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 26th, 2011 07:49 pm (UTC) (Link)
Now the violence, he sighed, inwardly.

“Did I stutter?”, Jake replied, “Seriously, you really don’t play well with others, do you?”

Knitting his brows, Jake shook his head and shrugged, “You know what? Threats are boring. If I bothered you by trying to be friendly, I’m sorry. You just work over there and I’ll work over here and we can each pretend we’re alone, okay?”

He turned his back to her and continued to paint, then, as an afterthought, half turned his head and warned, “I’m obligated to warn you, that I’m a 2nd degree black belt”, he shrugged, “I don’t hit girls, but I will defend myself.”

babalon From: [info]babalon Date: January 27th, 2011 04:02 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Uhhhuh," Emilie snerked, his threat quickly dissolving at the introduction of his knowledge in the Martial Arts. Threats were boring? Hypocritical much, eh?

"And I'm obligated to warn you-- You're a fucking retard." Threatening physical prowess against a witch? What a fucking amateur.

She returned to sifting through her things, looking for her headphones. Maybe she really could drown him out. Either way, he was talking in circles and she did not like it in the slightest.
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 27th, 2011 05:40 pm (UTC) (Link)
Jake laughed at Emilie’s retort, not even turning to face her. He continued to work on his painting and sighed aloud to himself, “It’s like talking to a fucking 3rd grader.”

Why had he even bothered to follow her in here? All that he’d learned was that she was rude, belligerent and antisocial; he had already heard that from several sources. It did tell him that this Ciaran must be a true deviant to be able to connect with her enough to have sex. Jake’s mind didn’t even want to go there.
babalon From: [info]babalon Date: January 27th, 2011 07:06 pm (UTC) (Link)
Emilie had done a fairly well controlling her temper, she thought. On a worse day, she would have thrown a pot of paint at his head, hexed him, or already thrown a punch.

Today? She was practically a saint.

Well, until now.

Warnings had been issued but he kept pressing and kept fucking snarking. He'd started this conversation, if he took offense it was his problem.

She didn't even remember drawing her wand, but it was there in her hand and before she could stop herself before the spell tumbled from her lips like a reflex.

"Expulso!"
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 27th, 2011 08:17 pm (UTC) (Link)
Jake was working on the details of Icarus’ sandal, trying to forget Emilie and her pitbull-like behavior; he had just moved to dab at the paint on his palette when he heard her cry out the spell…

”Expulso!”

Before he could react, Jake was blown backwards by a concussive blast of energy; his painting had exploded into, what seemed like, millions of pieces and was raining down on his head like confetti, where he sat, stunned, on the floor.

Jake sat for a moment, holding his paintbrush and palette, covered in the remains of his painting. Then, finally coming to his senses, he turned and looked at Emilie, “Are you out of your fucking mind?”, he growled, throwing down his palette and brush and brushing himself off, “You could be expelled for doing that shit!”

babalon From: [info]babalon Date: January 27th, 2011 09:12 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Let's get one thing clear, asshole," Emilie hissed, her eyes narrow. "You are never to fucking speak to me, address me, or even fucking look at me. Got it?"

She gathered her things in a rush and threw her bag over her shoulder. She already started walking toward the exit, giving him a wide berth.

"Or next time, it will be your fucking head."
jake_frost From: [info]jake_frost Date: January 27th, 2011 09:38 pm (UTC) (Link)
Jake hated fighting and it seemed this girl made a life out of it; he would have no problem following her directions. He wasn’t even mad at her, at this point; he was just tired of her. “Fine, whatever...not like I’m that desperate”, he sighed, waving her off.

When Emilie stomped towards the door, Jake was relieved to see her go. He wondered what had happened in her life to make her such a hateful person.

When Emilie threw back the threat at him, as she left, he just let it go. If she wanted to believe he’d let her blow up his head, more power to her. Blowing air out of his mouth in a frustrated sigh, Jake pulled out his wand and looked around the room, “What a mess!”, he grumbled. Flourishing his wand slightly, he intoned, “Tergeo art room.” He moved against the wall and watched as all of the minute pieces of canvas whirled off of the floor and any other surface they had blown onto and emptied themselves into a waste basket, the easel righted itself and the spots of paint he’d gotten on the floor wiped clean. “Excellent!”, he beamed.
