Summary: Michi and Isamu are enjoying a lazy Sunday afternoon picnic

Sundays were probably Michiko's favorite day of the week. No one ever expected anything from you on a Sunday, it was the best of lazy days, most of the time Michi didn't even get out of her pajamas. This Sunday was a little different though, she had a date with a special little man who was waiting downtown for her. She was quick to skip downtown and bring him back to campus for a little afternoon picnic.

Michi laid out the blanket while Isamu crawled around in the grass. "Come here silly man," she said scooping him up and setting him on the blanket. He sat up for a few a little while before topping into Michi's lap and giggling. He babbled a little nonsense before being promptly squished into a hug from Michi. "Want some cookies and naners?" she asked getting a plate out of the picnic basket. She poured a few cookies and some strawberry and banana bits onto the plate and set it in front of him.

Thank goodness for bibs, she thought as she watched the baby go for the cookies with a certain vigor, spilling crumbs all down his front. "Is it yummy?" she asked.

"Om om om om!" Isamu babbled.

"Om nom nom!" Michiko giggled.

Jools happened to be passing by when she noticed Michi out on the lawn with her baby. She wasn't very much a baby sort of person, but she didn't want to be rude either and thought to stop over and say hello, maybe meet the little guy officially.

"Hi," she said with a little wave, stopping just at the edge of the blanket.

"Hey Jools," Michi beamed at the older girl. Isamu looked up from his snack and shyly giggled at the new comer.

"Have you met little man yet?" she asked scooting over, there was plenty of room for two on the blanket. "Want to join us? It's the softest blanket you'll ever get at a picnic ever," she grinned.

"Oh. Uh. Not officially." She wasn't ordinarily shy, but she had no idea how to be around small children. "Well..." She debated saying hello and then running off, but then that would be terribly rude. "Sure," she said and lowered herself to the blanket as gracefully as possible."

She waved to the baby. "Hi little man."

Isamu pushed his plate away and crawled over to investigate Jools. He sat in front of her and giggled.

"This is Isamu," Michiko introduced the baby. "And he's insanely curious," she giggled as Isamu babbled at Jools.

Michi reached over and scooped him up, giving him little kisses on his chubby cheeks. "So what are you up to today?"
jools From: [info]jools Date: March 23rd, 2011 03:31 am (UTC) (Link)
"Well hello, Isamu," she said as if he were a fully grown adult. "It's a pleasure to meet you." She might have reached out to shake his hands, but they seemed to be covered in bits of whatever he'd been nomming.

"Nothing really," she said awkwardly as Michi took the baby away. Jools didn't know if it was a bad thing to feel so relieved by that simple gesture. "You?"

She giggled at Jools and Isamu's interaction as Izzy flirted with the other girl, giving her little smiles and giggles. "He's such a flirt," she teased.

"I've been crazy busy! Juggling the boys in my life and school work and quodpot," she said a little exasperated. "I could not be more ready for spring vacation," she laughed. "And it's still like a month away!"
jools From: [info]jools Date: March 23rd, 2011 03:52 am (UTC) (Link)
"Is that what that is?" Jools asked with a peculiar smile. "I couldn't tell if a mac truck was flirting with me just before it slammed into me."

Which had her thinking about Bobby and that little kiss they'd shared. "Boys. Honestly. Why do they exist?" Then she frowned again because this wasn't the sort of thing Jools ever talked about with anyone. "I've been throwing myself into school work," she said to shift away the topic before they were enveloped in it. "I think I've decided not to stay for the transitional year, so this is my last push."

Michiko laughed brightly. "Oh yeah. The big eyes, the little smile," she beamed. "I have got to teach you the art of flirting Jools."

"I like nice boys, right Izzy baby?" she asked bouncing him in her lap. "Granted there are the jerks out there and trust me I have had my share of jerks but there's a nice boy out there with Jools Le Gallo written all over his heart," she giggled.

"Aww, you're not staying for transitional year? What are you thinking about doing?"
jools From: [info]jools Date: March 23rd, 2011 04:35 am (UTC) (Link)
"I could use a few lessons," she admitted.

Then she was looking away, pursing her lips and trying not to think of the one boy she hoped already had her name written on his heart. "Yeah. Maybe," she said doubtfully. Not once he knows everything there is to know about me.

"No. As much as I love school I need to get out of this place. I've always wanted to go to Japan. I know it's not looking too good right now, what with the recent tragedy, but I still want to go. I think I could probably get a passport to help with relief work. It's horrible to think, but I imagine they'll still need the help picking up by the time I've graduated."

A slight frown tugged at her lips at Jools expression. "Is there... is there a boy?" she asked curiously.

She nodded, quietly listening. "Yeah, it's really terrible. Clean up is going to take years," she took one of Isamu's hands and gave it a little squeeze. "I have some family in Toyko, everyone is okay but it still hit close to home. Everyone is worried about the radiation though."

She shook the negative feelings off pretty quick though, her demeanor brightening right up. "Aside from volunteer work what were you thinking about?" she asked enthusiastically.
jools From: [info]jools Date: March 23rd, 2011 05:35 am (UTC) (Link)
"Oh. No," she lied and looked away before Michi could detect it.

"I saw this really phenomenal chart about safe radiation limits that was kind of eye opening. I think the Japanese government has it well in hand. They're ridiculously prepared." Though some things, no matter how well prepared for could not be prevented.

"I'd like to study Geisha culture," Jools said cheerfully. She didn't often talk about herself, but this was one little thing she didn't mind sharing. "It's hard for Westerners to get in, but it's not unheard of. I'd like to spend a few years working there, maybe become a cultural diplomat. I could always teach English as a second language."

Michi nodded, this time feeling far more better about the situation. "That's actually the best news I've heard about it since I got the call from my cousin that everyone was okay," she said smiling warmly. "I feel like if there is one government in the world that can deal with an earthquake, a tsunami, and a radiation leak all happening within days of each other it's Japan," she said a little proud of her heritage.

"Ooo!" Michi said her eyes getting big. "What a cool idea!" she bounced Izzy again when he repeated her "Oooo!" he cooed.

"You definitely have to keep in touch, that's probably the coolest post graduation plan I've ever heard. Everyone else I know what's to play quodpot or go to college," she laughed. "What sort stuff would a cultural diplomat do?"
jools From: [info]jools Date: March 23rd, 2011 06:18 am (UTC) (Link)
"America couldn't survive it," she said plainly. Then she shrugged because she didn't have any ideas on how to fix that situation, besides moving away. "I'm glad your family is okay."

"I've promised to send some people postcards," she replied. "I'll have to get your address before I go." Then she smiled shyly. "I think they go to fancy dinners under the guise of sharing cultural information. In the last century they were usually spies." Then she laughed. "I can't picture myself doing spy work."

She made a little sound of disgust. "There is more to life than quodpot." She played for Sonnier, but it wasn't her main interest. "I'd go to college if I thought it would help me along with my immediate goals, but I honestly don't think it will. I'll go eventually to further my education, but it won't be for awhile. Do you have plans yet? I imagine it's not easy with the little guy."
gimmeskittles From: [info]gimmeskittles Date: March 23rd, 2011 06:48 am (UTC) (Link)
"Agreed," she nodded with a little hint of a smile. "Thank you. I was so relieved to get that phone call."

"I will definitely get it to you!" she said brightly. "Ooo!" she laughed. "I don't know Jools, you would make a pretty kick ass spy," she grinned playfully. "You've got the shy thing going for you, no one would suspect."

Michi nodded with a big laugh. "There is," she agreed. "It's always been one of my favorite things to do though. I always thought I would play professionally but then little man came along. It's better for him I think if I just keep it recreational, less chance of injury," she explained. "The guy I'm seeing is probably going to get scouted though," she said proudly.

"I want to go to college in New York City and major in business. I'm going to own a magical cosmetics line, I've already started making some things and I've even sold some foundation to the girls on campus. I've been saving all that money so I can afford an apartment for me and little man. I hate not being able to live with him."
