He had to put this stupid book back.

Nobody had scene him take it, which was a good thing, and if he was careful enough then nobody would see him put it on the shelf where it belonged either. The only problem with that idea was that the library was, especially around end of term exams, rather busy. Someone was bound to see him pulling it out of his bag...unless, of course, he waited for the last day of term.

Or rather, until he forgot about it until the last day of term. Still, who was going to be in then? Everyone would be packing up, partying or saying their goodbyes.

What sort of supernerd would be mixing it up in the school library?!

It took Ciaran a while to remember where he'd taken it from, but he eventually found the right section. He shoved a few other copies aside to make room, then took the one he'd borrowed from his bag.

See? Nobody would even notice it had been missing...

She only had 3 books left to put back on the shelves. Turning the corner to the last section she needed, Rowan spied Ciaran shoving aside some other books on the shelf and...

What was he doing?

"I... hope that book was properly checked out of here to begin with. Usually you would just leave that at the front desk..." Rowan eyed the book in Ciaran's hand suspiciously.

"I can't check it out, it's reference only. I was putting it back where it goes."

Which was completely truthful. It just happened to be that he'd taken it out prior to that and was now trying to sneak it back in, but she didn't need to know that, did she?

Upon closer inspection of the section that he was putting the book back in, Rowan saw that it was in fact a reference book.

"Oh, well... sorry then. Didn't mean to get snappy at you." She sounded a little bashful. I mean, she didn't always like to be the Nerd Queen, but sometimes she sure sounded that way.

That had been surprisingly easy to cover up. Yay for Ciaran? Shrugging, he put the book back on the shelf where it belonged, all of the lending volumes having been returned now.

"So, you work here then?"

At his question, Rowan had to laugh. "Do I... No. I don't work here. I go to school here. I'm a junior in Sonnier. Rowan." She smiled at him, a little unsure and shy, but at the same time... he thought she worked here?

"I do spend a lot of time here though. Do you... need help with anything?"

"Oh, right. It's the end of term so...I figured anybody who was in here had to work here or something."

Well, at least that made lying about his reason for being there easier.

"I'm Ciaran. I'm in tenth, Rienzi," he added. "And...no. I'm good. I was just returning a book, and then I had to put this one back."
