Atlantean Affairs
Arthur sat quietly and listened to the council debating...something. He honestly hadn't been paying attention to what was being said. It was a meeting of the Royal Council and he always had problems paying attention to the prattling on of the council members, but now it was worse. His heart and his head wasn't in anything right now.

He brought his focus back long enough to hear General Nakesh finish the report about the state of Atlantean military forces and their readiness. Something was building on the surface and Arthur didn't think it would stay confined to the surface.

Arthur nodded his thanks to Nakesh and looked to Ozell. Ozell was the current chairman of the council and ran the meetings. Hopefully this meeting was over.

	He nods to General Nakesh. "Thank you for your report, General. We will all take that under advice. I do ope that whatever is brewing can be resolved safely." He looks around the council chambers not knowing if there is anything he would personally bring up. Perhaps one of the others. "Now. Is there anything else we need to speak of?" 	Arthur scowled. He had hoped this issue would not come up for awhile. Mera, Cait and Koryak had only been dead for two months. It was way too early to think about remarrying. "I stand with the king in this. It is far to soon to discuss such things. Have we no respect for the dead any longer?" Garth asks, his tone likely more harsh than he intends.

After all, he knows where Arthur is coming from.

"I think this discussion should be tabled until we've been able to discern Atlatnis' position after the recent encounters with the Titans of Myth." Garth suggests.

"A compromise, perhaps then my lord. The other nobles will be raising questions as well. I do not wish you to move on before you are ready, my King." Ozell thinks this out carefully before he speaks.

"There is Princess Asherah. While it would be much to ask of her while she lives in hope of returning to her home; she is a daughter of your House my lord. I would think it prudent to begin to have her become more responsible. She will be of age in a few short years, if memory serves me. And she is brave for one so young. I believe she would make an excellent candidate as a possible heir."

This whole nobility thing was new to him, and he wasn't comfortable with it, but he'd be damned if he let these people push Arthur right now or discount Asherah simply on the unknown.

"Not only that, but regardless of /when/ she goes home, if the worst where to happen to King Orin tomorrow, Princess Asherah is /all/ that we have left. She should be given the chance to know the people and the people to know her. I move that we, at this time, do as the surface people say and leave well enough alone." Garth suggests.

Arthur nodded his thanks to Ovdenk, Garth and Thalia. "I appreciate the concern shown by all," Arthur started. "Mera, Caitria, Koryak and Cerdian were my family. There's not a minute that goes by where I do not think of them and how much Atlantis and I have lost with their deaths. I know Atlantis needs a stable line of succession, but I cannot be expected to marry so soon after losing my family."

He paused a moment to let his words sink in.

"I will name Asherah my heir for as long as she is here. If by chance she leaves before I remarry and produce an heir, I am naming Lord Garth as my heir in that situation. Is this acceptable?"

"No one is saying that Atlantis will erupt into a civil war today, but the possibility of one is there. Not to mention there is Tritonis, Thierna Na Oge and Tlapallan to consider. If Poseidonis is fighting itself, it leaves the city and kingdom open for an outsider to conquer. Even our cousins."

Nakesh looked at Orin.

"It is acceptable, Your Majesty. The forces of Atlantis are behind you."

Arthur hadn't been on the surface since before Cait's death, but he needed to talk to Asherah and tell her of what had transpired in the council meeting. Arthur swam to the surface and to the place where the Titans East had their headquarters. He was pleased that she was closer to Poseidonis instead of being all the way in San Francisco.

He knocked on the door to the building.

	She was starting to become more sure of herself since the Titans East had officially formed. She still hid behind her hair and still stammered quite a bit but she was getting better! "O-Of course," she opens the door wider and steps back so he can come in. They are much in the same boat.

She's uncomfortable being reminded of the family she lost when she was sent here.

"I do-don't think the rest of th-the team i-is around. I'm th-the only one w-who see-seems to stay here f-full time." Her going out in public on her own when her stammering is still this bad? Not exactly a good idea. She might not even bother talking.

But she is fairly certain they'll have their privacy.

	She didn't know what to say. She just hid behind her hair a bit more. It takes her a few minutes before she can stop doing that. "I'm not an-angry o-or u-upset. This isn't easy f-for either of us." Arthur nodded. "I know and it's going to get even harder. The Royal Council has brought up the subject of me remarrying and producing an heir for the throne," he started. "I cannot entertain the possibility right now. Not so soon after loosing Mera, Cait, Koryak and Cerdian, but Atlantis does need an heir. I have selected you as my heir for as long as your are with us, Asherah."

Ash splutters because clearly when she wasn't looking everyone went insane. She is not about to accuse Arthur of possibly going insane openly though. It's obvious though that she is in shock over this because her hands just don't stop moving.

"My Lord!" She takes a deep deep breaths. "A-Arthur. This is madness. I don't... I don't think I'm suitable. I don't have.."

She takes another deep breath. "I'll always do my duty f-for Atlantis. B-But I don't think I make a good heir f-for anyone."

She looks up and shakes her head. "I don't even know if I can g-get b-back a-t this point. W-with how m-much is g-going on I'm... I'm afraid some kind of... Of Crisis is g-going on. The kind that my Dad said reshaped how thin-things are. I... Can allow things to change. My Father would want me to help you. So would my Mother and bother."

She misses her brother right now. He would know just what to say to Atlantis' shyest princess.
