A family affair
(Takes place before this thread)

Ever since she had taken up the mantle of Kid Flash, Iris had been busier than normal. Especially when it came to patrols.

Things weren't the same without Jai. And while there were some days when she just wanted to just go to her room and cry, she knew she couldn't. She had to be strong.

For her team. For her family. Cerdian, Cait, and Jai wouldn't have allowed themselves to crack under pressure, so neither would she.

Iris came home from patrol that night to an empty house.

"Mom? Dad? Anybody home?"

"Poor Irey. You really believe that whole 'we love you both the same' crap they told you? I die and come back to life, and what do I find?

I find my so-called friend hooking up with my girlfriend in the JLA Monitor Room, then I come home to find my twin sister stepping into /my/ life! Do you know how /insulting/ it is to see you wear that?" Jai asks, pointing at her costume.

"You must have been beside yourself with joy when I vanished. Now you could be Kid Flash to Dad's Flash and someday, you'd end up being the Fastest Girl Alive and being in Justice League.

Good thing the League doesn't have an IQ requirement. That might be the /only/ thing that keeps you off it."

"You don't even /know/ me, Iris. You never did. None of you ever did. Do you know that I didn't even /want/ to be Kid Flash at first? I just picked up the costume to make sure you didn't stop and guzzle a paint factory or run to lick the walls at school or something." Jai says.

"After awhile, though, it got fun. But damn if Dad didn't always tell me 'Watch out for, Irey, Jai. Make sure your retard sister doesn't do something dumb, Jai. Make sure Henry Jordan/Jon Kent/Keith Queen doesn't sleep with your sister, Jai'. If she comes home pregnant, it's your fault, Jai!" he says, mimicking Wally.

"I swear, I've meet /babies/ that need less supervision than you, Iris!" Jai taunts.

"But you wanna be Kid Flash? You wanna wear the big girl pants? All right, all you gotta do is be fast." Jai grins, folds of ruined flesh stretching across his tattered face.

"I'm gonna turn Keystone City into an abbatoir. Sorry, Irey. I'll use small words for you. That means a slaughterhouse. A place where people die a lot." Jai says.

"I'm gonna run through the city and kill anyone I come across...unless you can stop me. Kids, babies, old people, bus drivers, Mickey Mouse, the Little Mermaid...they're all dead if I see 'em.

The only way you can stop me is to kill me, slowpoke. We all know I'm faster, so you might have to try to outthink...no, you just better be faster." Jai grins.

"On your mark...get set..."

There is a blur of black energy and Jai is gone.

Tears streamed down Iris's face. "Stop it Jai! Please stop it!

This isn't you! I want my brother back! NOW!"

She sounded like a five-year-old. But she didn't care. All she had wanted since he had gone missing was for Jai to come home.

But not like this.

When he left her in the dust, Iris just wanted to break down in cry. She wanted to find her father and run into his arms and sob, and have him tell her that it wasn't real. That it was going to be alright.

But she couldn't.

There was a streak of gold, as Iris took off after her brother.

	Jai races from the West household and into the city proper, looking for someone, anyone, to kill. He comes across a homeless man warming himself by a fire. The man's heart is torn out and he crumples to the ground before his brain has time to register that he's even dead. "Oh, come on, Kid Flash! You're not even /trying/ to keep up right now." Jai vibrates his arm through the glass, reaches into the woman's chest and tears out her heart. "Sorry, couldn't hear you over the sound of /this/." he grins. People start screaming. Iris grapples Jai, who struggles in her grip.

"No one's innocent, Irey! Heroes /die/! I did and no one else had to! And everyone just moved on with their lives. That's what /heroes/ do right? They move on.

Well, why not just /stop/ and let the death take us. I'm at peace with who I am now, Sis. Why don't you join me? All the pain can go away? Don't you want to feel peace? Don't you want it for Mom and Dad?" he asks.

Cerdian shakes his head sadly.

"I wish that was true, Iris, but it's not. We can't fix this. We never could. Not even all of the heroes with our combined powers could stop people from dying. We could change the date or the time they died, but never that the would." Cerdian says.

He pauses for a moment.

"I should have told that I loved you, Iris. That day at the beach. I should have told you that I always thought we'd get married, simply because you wanted to." he says.

Jai saw Iris coming, but wasn't able to dodge fast enough to avoid being grappled.

He's hurled into Cerdian at top speed, smashing the two of them through another wall and dropping debris about them.

Soon enough, however, Jai begins to stand.

"Don't you /get/ it? You can't kill us, Kid Flash! No matter what you do, we will get up again. Eventually, you'll get tired. You'll get hungry and weak, and then...you'll die, just like us." he smirks.

Jai begins hurling bricks at Iris at bullet-like speed, but if she watches for a moment, he's not aiming /her/.

He's throwing for the museum.
