When it rains, it pours. (Morgaine & Jane)
Merlyn falls from two stories up, slamming through the glass skylight and landing in the pool of the youth center below and has the presence of mind to thank whatever deity rules over this part of the world that it wasn't concrete he slammed into. Granted, with the number of crazy people chasing him right now, he didn't have a lot to be thankful for, but being alive was one blessing he would count over and over again.

He climbs out of the water as quickly as he can, ignoring the sting of his cuts and bruises. One week ago, he'd left Coast City, going on the run after confessing to anyone who would listen that he, and not Green Arrow, murdered the psychopath known as the Artist. Robert didn't care if they wanted him to pay for killing a murderer; laws and courts didn't really appeal or apply to him. The only justice he needed came at the end of an arrow.

Unfortunately, he'd run into another psychopath, two days later, that believed in the same things he did. Only, this psychopath wanted /him/ dead at the end of her sword.

It was rather ironic that his adopted brother's sister was the woman trying to kill him, because Robert killed her father. But even more irksome is that, after nine months of alternately fighting and escaping this particular woman....Robert Queen /still/ does not know her name He suggested to her that she was playing hard to get.

She tried to throw her dagger through his heart.

Funny. That line worked on Jane, once...

She looked at him, nearly snarling.

"I can do it myself."

She didn't need help. Not from him. Not from anyone.

"You realize that if you mess this up, you'll probably bleed to death inside of three hours, right? Then someone will show up, think that I killed you, and I'll have to kill them in return." Robert says.

"If you're that eager to die, just let me wrap my hands around your throat and squeeze for a minute or two and save you some trouble." Robert says, coming back with the first-aid kid.

"Now, are you going to let me do this or not?" he asks.

"I've handled my own wounds before," she said, examining the arrow in her side.

"Well, in this case, you don't have to. You don't want to do this wrong, Morgan. You could make it worse." Robert says, pushing her hand aside so that he can look at the wound himself.

There was some more snarling, but she was too weak to complain as he pushed her hand aside.

Robert examines the wound, noting that he arrow is in deep. Luckily, her father wasn't using the same kind of arrows that he used on Robert. Merlyn had very nearly killed him a couple of years ago.

"Okay, it didn't go all the way through, so I can pull it out. Bad news is that it's going to hurt like hell. You're going to want to hold on to something that isn't me." Robert says.

"So, your father hates you like mine hates me." he says, by way of conversation as he readies himself to remove the arrow.

"Just do it," she said. "I've endured worse."

She ignored his last statement.

"Well, I'm sure you have. I don't imagine you get this far in your line of work without taking an ass-kicking or two." Robert says, chattering on.

Somewhere in there, he presses down and then firmly pulls the arrow out, immediately tossing it aside and starting to staunch the flow of blood.

"It's okay if you're the red-headed step-child. I know what that's like, too. But that other guy frightened you, didn't he?

The one that had his hands all over...Jane." Robert says.

"I was never supposed to be born," Morgaine said, letting out a small cry of pain as he pulled the arrow.

"My grandfather never got tired of reminding me of it.

You are familiar with the name Ra's al Ghul, are you are not?"

"Vaguely. I think my mother worked for a man by that name years ago, but I'm not sure. She didn't tell me everything. Slade said the name once as well, and it sounded more like a curse than anything." Robert says.

"Welcome to the 'Never Supposed To Be Born' club, Morgan. I'd give you a t-shirt, but I got jumped on the way to printing press. This assassin wanted to kill me and then we got attacked by zombies." Robert jests, offering the woman a smile.

Something told him that a smile didn't see her face often, unless it was at someone else's expense.

"Hold this cloth down while I get something to tape it with." he says. "And don't try to run. You won't get far."

"He was the Demon's Head. My brother's father was right to say his name as a curse."

She narrowed her eyes at him. "I'll pass on membership," she said.

She nodded, holding down on the cloth. "It would be stupid of me to run right now."

"Tough crowd." Robert mutters, putting away the iodine.

"Yes, it would be stupid of you to run right now, but let's be serious, Morgie...when it comes to me, you don't exactly make the best decisions, now do you?" Robert asks, using a bit of ace bandage to tie the cloth in place.

"You're going to need some stitches, but I didn't see any in the first-aid kit. If you've got some super-glue here, that might work.

Then I need to clean up my cuts so that I don't get an infection. I need to save all my strength for your next attempt to snuff me out." he smiles, getting up to move across the room. He takes the iodine and a couple of cotton balls, and starts cleaning up his cuts.

"I don't suppose you have any beer?" he asks.

"That is not my name," she snapped at him.

"I don't have any glue...though would loose thread from my clothing maybe work for stitches? At least until I can get proper ones?" She's had to do makeshit first aid before.

She raised an eyebrow at him.

"Why the hell would I have beer? The bottles would have shattered, anyway."

Someone doesn't have much of a sense of humor.

"This is going to be one of those nights that requires a lot of beer to get through." Robert says under his breath.

"Sorry, Morgan. Yes, we could use loose thread from your clothes, but it's going to take quite a bit and it's going to hurt like hell. I know the League has you on some kind of super-secret pain avoidance technique, but it's only going to get you so far." Robert says.

"I saw a store down at the corner. You're going to want something for the pain sooner rather than later." Robert says, continuing to clean his cuts. he can feel a slash on his back as well, but he can't reach it, despite his various attempts, and his shoulder /still/ hurts from that damned stab wound she'd given him.

"You know, all three of the most painful wounds I currently have are because of you. Just thought I'd let you know, in case you want to Tweet about it or put it on your Facebook." Robert teases.

Morgan's idea of Facebook probably comprises /actual/ faces in a book that she uses to recount her best kills.

"A store," she said in a monotone, "Yes, because walking into a store with my side bleeding definitely will not attract any attention whatsoever." She rolled her eyes. Idiot.

There might be a small grin when he mentioned at his most painful wounds were because of her. A hint of one, at least/

"Is Twitter a disease? And a Facebook sounds ridiculous. Why would you want a book for your face?"

....She is serious, folks.

"Clearly, the blood loss is affecting your ears, Morgan. I didn't say /you/ would go to the store. I said there is a store. I will go to the store, you will stay here on this couch and rest, and then you will drink the beer that I give you and...most importantly...you will Shut. The Hell. Up.

For at least a few minutes while I figure out what happens next." Robert says.

He just looks at her when she asks about Twitter and Facebook. She /has/ to be joking.

"Does Damien let you watch TV? Or does he make you train in your free time, too?" he asks.

"And your smile could curdle milk. Seriously, do you assassins only get off when you kill someone or does any random spilling of blood get you all worked up?" Robert asks.

Her natural distaste at being given by orders by someone who is not not her brother or her mother is obvious, as she stars daggers at him.

"Fine," she snapped at him.

"Why would I watch TV? Isn't it all a bunch of useless garbage anyway?" She stiffened. "And there is nothing wrong with training in one's free time."

"Don't sound so surprised, Robert Queen," she said. "You are not so different from me, after all. I am sure you've smiled at the idea of causing pain on someone you believe deserved it."

"I don't take satisfaction in causing pain, Morgan. I take satisfaction in saving people from further pain." Robert says, looking her in the eyes.

"Unlike you, I only kill two kinds of people; people who deserve it and people who tried to kill me first. The people in the second group usually end up in the first pretty fast." he says.

"But a lot more people pay you to kill those than inconvenience them in some way. You profit from more misery than you absolve." Robert says, taking off his vest and the shirt beneath it to clean his wound.

His torso is wiry, but corded with muscle. A lattice work of scars and cuts crisscrosses his body like miniature train tracks.

"Do you ever consider that your talents might be more useful elsewhere?" he asks as he tries to bandage himself.

"You could learn." Robert counters. "If nothing else, you could use your talents to bring justice to those who need it, rather than profit from the pain of others."

He struggles with the cleaning of the wound and stops for a moment, taking a deep breath.

"Do you think Damien would care if you died?" he asks. "Before you flip out, Morgan, I'm asking honestly. Do you two even give a damn about each other?"

"You sound like you believe it. Oddly enough, I know how that is. My brother and I are the same way." Robert says.

He gives up on trying to bandage the wound simply relaxes against the wall, trying to ignore the pain.

"Give me a minute and I'll go out and get us food. Then you can rest and we'll figure out what comes next. In fact, you should take the bed I saw in the other room. I'll keep watch." he says.
