(Not Quite) Hell on Wheels (open)
Huntress opened the throttle on her bike and increased her speed. The men on bikes ahead of her had been pulling away, but she wasn't going to let them get away. They were part of a gang who were pushing drugs to middle-school kids and Maria wasn't about to let them go anywhere but to the land of pain and jail. Preferably in that order.

She had been following them for a few days to learn their supply and distribution routes so she could bring down the whole gang and not just two little fishes. Tonight they were heading toward Metropolis to meet up with a fellow member who dealt in Metropolis. She gunned the throttle and closed the gap between them.

Huntress pulled up along side of one and grabbed her crossbow. She aimed and fire, the small arrow going into the front tire of the bike. The front tire deflated and the bike flipped, the back going up over the front. The man on it went flying off and hit the ground hard. He wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Huntress kept after the guy on the other bike and pulled up along side of him. She took aim, but he swerved toward her and she had to swerve to avoid him hitting her. She straightened out and half stood up, putting her weight on her hands. She put her right knee on the seat and kicked out with her left foot at the man on the other bike.

He wobbled a bit before losing control. His bike started to skid and the rear wheel hit hers. Not good. So not good. Her bike started to skid and there was only one thing left to do. Huntress jumped from the skidding bike and went flying through the air. She tried to adjust her position to make a somewhat reasonable landing, but she had been driving too fast for that. She hit the ground hard and with some bone breakage.

"Ow. Double ow." There wasn't a part of her body that didn't hurt and she was going to lie here and enjoy the nice hard ground for a bit.

"Perfect is boring," she said. "And you are not boring."

"You're not either, I'll give you that. Persistent too."

"I will take those as a compliment," she grinned. "Uncle Bruce gave great lessons on being stubborn. Not to mention I think I'm just like I am because I spent a lot of my trying to make him smile."

"You should. And those lessons were obviously a tremendous success."

"Well you have to be stubborn and persistent in this line of work. Otherwise the bad guys will get away."

"There is that. I'm sure you get some practice in just getting a word in edgewise operating in Gotham."

"True," she said. "We are a stubborn bunch. I'm still adjusting to this crew. They're not exactly the same as mine. I'm even getting used to you. You're a girl in my world."

"Well for starters Johanna Kent is a good friend of mine. She lives in Metropolis and went into the family business."

She grabbed a fry.

"My Bruce isn't as old or as infirm as this one, but he's not Bats anymore. Bat's is Bruce's son Thomas and my adopted brother. Batgirl is Barbara Gordon's daughter and a good friend. My parents died when I was five which is why Bruce adopted me. We don't have the exact same criminals, but close enough. And as I've mentioned, Gotham is about the same. Metropolis seems similar from what little I've seen of it. There's pretty much the same teams, just different faces."

"Hmm, interesting. The last visitors I met were from a very different world, but most... well, seem to have a fair number of similarities anyway. Johanna, or Jo, Kent is my little sister here. She's usually not shown much interest in going into the family business."

"My Johanna doesn't have any siblings," she said. Maria wanted to ask more about the other visitors and how they went home, but she knew it was a delicate subject. She wouldn't bring it up. "I think she may be a year or two older than you."

"That's possible, my parents didn't exactly hurry to have kids, so if they are about the same in your world, they could have older kids. So you and Johanna worked together a lot?"

"Here and there," Maria answered. "We did spend a bit of time together outside of uniform. Her, Batgirl and me. We were thick as thieves."

"And no Batman, no Superman, no JLA... they have their own heroes and villains. The Avengers, the X-Men... their big bad is someone named Dr. Doom... very different. I had trouble with it too, but I spent a lot of time talking to them. They were heroes on their world, but none of them had any equivalents here."

"Yeah, like I said, I couldn't either... but we talked quite a bit. Their gods are allowed to get involved in things still. One of them was the daughter of Thor, apparently one of the major heroes in that world. As for Dr. Doom... apparently the guy's actual name is Doctor Victor von Doom... hence, Dr. Doom."

"Okay that makes a little more sense," she said. "Are things that bad there that the gods are still allowed to interfere?" She smiled a little. "Was this daughter of Thor the one you were enamored of?" she asked since he didn't mention any of the other visitors.

"Yeah." He admits, a little less cheerful than in the back and forth, but no cause to deny it. "On both counts. They have it rough. Normal people don't like their heroes very much. And she and I got pretty close while she was here. We helped them follow one of their enemies, who had taken control of Doomsday while he was here... then they went home."

She reached out and gave his hand a squeeze and the released it. It was a small simple gesture. "Sounds like they have it rough."

"Wait a minute. Someone had enough hutzpah and was powerful enough to put Doomsday on a leash? What kind of mad lunatic was this?"
