When Cait gets home from work, Ty is all dressed to go out, not in his lab as usual.

"Comparing what we know about a few alien technologies with current science right now to work on eliminating the rigors of large-scale warp travel. Obviously a number of alien cultures have ftl travel, but a lot of them have unique resources to work with like Nth metal, or physiologies that adapt to warp travel better, like the Tamaranians. STAR would like to potentially open a lot more of the galaxy to humans without needing superhuman assistance or a precious few recovered alien artifacts."

"That's their goal, long term. First, they want to be able to have an exploratory force, and be able to send diplomats to potentially friendly races, not wait for them to visit or have to go through superhumans. The government would also like to hear they're close enough to start building protective measures, since so many aliens have invaded, and always needed to be turned away by the League, the Society and so on."

	He returns the kiss with a small smile. "Not so much the grant writing, but the overall project is just my kind of thing. Lots of time, lots of math, end result being something helpful, but no time limits, no real expectations of a huge breakthrough any time soon, since so much of this is firmly in the realm of theory.... so no pressure." 	"I'm pretty sure I can. The whole space warp thing is fascinating. And if the grant goes well, and they like the initial equations, its possible a paid research position may open up next year some time. 	"They aren't that tight," Cait assured him. "We can pay the rent, eat and we have a little spending money. We're nowhere where we used to be."
