Super Bowl Party
Cindy was proud of the festivities she'd set up.

The game was projected onto one wall of the huge atrium the party was taking place in, with plenty of comfy seats facing it. It was only polite, after all.

More important was the food. Tables of chips, veggies, wings (with three different types of dressing), muffelettas (it's a New Orleans occasion this year. Thematic), and chili rolls. Cindy was especially proud of the chili rolls; there was one row marked 'Regular' and one row marked 'Queen' The latter row had a stack of pens and informed-consent waivers in front of it.

There was also a small end table full of party favors for everyone. In celebration of commerce, they were $10 gift cards, each for somewhere she thought fitting for the person the card was marked for.

Cindy likes parties.

Steven notices Jai come in, and leaves his food behind to mark his spot, and heads off to talk with him. "Hey, don't want to get into too much heavy stuff here, even if it is a celebration of capitalism. At some point though, I have a business proposal for you."

"Hey," he smiles when he sees Steven approach. "Nah, it wouldn't be you if you didn't have a plan or idea of some sort. So go for it."

"Nah, its my girlfriend who has most of the big plans. I just have a few big ones here and there. So, I'm looking at starting a film production company: Speedforce Productions. We have initial investors and all the legalese done, and a first program planned. Long term, I'd like to do mostly science fiction and fantasy, but starting more realistic. I'd like to know if you'd like to be involved?"

"No no, this isn't a relative measure of plans. Absolute measuring says you're still a good planner, though your girlfriend really does beat you there I'm afraid," he laughs. As he listens to Steven's proposal there's a look of 'really man?' on his face. "Wait...this is a formality right? Only explanation I can see given it involves Speedforce in name, sci fi, and family. Because either way, you already know my answer."

"Oh, I know my girl is the smart one. She's been a lot of help with this whole process. As for the rest, I figured that would be your answer, but had to ask officially. Mostly a formality though, yes."

"Well now that the formalities are out of the way...what's the first plan of action and when do we start?"

"I should tell you some about our first project. Before I'm legally able to do so, I'll need you to sign a couple things. Likewise, just formalities. NDAs, agreement to pay you for your work, that sort of thing. Cindy would kill me if I made exceptions to the rules. I can get the papers for you in a few seconds though, if you want to discuss business more."

"Sure, I can multitask with the best if needed and after a proposal like that putting off seeing the rest would feel like a tease. I don't want you to get on the wrong side of Cindy anytime soon."

One second Steven is there. the next he's not. The next... ok, it might take another seven or eight seconds, but he's back with the paperwork.

"Once we have anything in the way of profits we can renegotiate, but this is a basic working rate... what we can afford as a start up, anyway, and the other is an NDA. Can't talk to anyone about the projects that haven't signed one of these. We can get you that list too easy enough."

Growing up in a speedster house, and later on being one yourself, meant that disappearances like that were the norm. Even more than for any bat person.

With a smile, Jai takes the paperwork from Steven and looks it over. First with a superspeed flip through to get the general gist, then he goes back for a normal speed read on the important parts. "As expected, you guys are thorough. So far it all looks reasonable, though I could care less about the profit really, it sounds like it'll be a fun venture." He glances up from his reading of the paperwork to shoot Steven an amused smile. "Guess I'm not getting even a hint of what's in store until these are all signed right?"

"Bingo, not with Cindy and Tess, my business partners, probably listening. As for the pay, legally, we have to pay you. It'll be minimum for a while, but you'll get something for the work."

"As expected," he chuckled. "Well let's keep this all business formal and above board so neither of us are in hot water for it. Got a pen? Finished going through the NDA so let's limit the time you keep me in suspense and bring your business partners' blood pressure down." Another read through, not super speed, to take note of the important points stressed in the NDA again now. "Pocket money never hurt anyone, so minimum is fine by me though I have a feeling it's the prospect of doing some of the projects that'll really get me."

Steven nods - he's a Garrick, not a West or an Allen, so of course he has a pen, which he hands over. "Absolutely. Don't worry, no fine print. Pretty basic, since we know everyone we're working with."

"Thanks." Jai takes the pen and gets to work signing on dotted lines for the NDA. "Nah, not worried about fine print. Want to be sure I'm following the rules of the NDA properly. Those ladies you're working with aren't ones anyone wants to get on the wrong side of. Plus, I know you and they wouldn't pull out fine print on anyone. Otherwise I'd have done more read throughs, maybe some notes, and brought this back to you in a few days."

NDA signed, Jai hands it and the pen back to Steven. "I'll give you a chance to run over and show Cindy and Tess the proof before I ask for the project details. Gotta do this by the book."

"He doesn't have to show us!" declaims someone who may be really superfamiliar with the acoustics of her building and standing accordingly. "As long as protocol's followed. And I'm only not offended that I 'wouldn't pull fine print on' because you're actually saying I'm too smart to try to sneak it past Tess."

Jai laughs and calls out. "Sorry Cindy! Trying to dot i's and cross t's here! Thorough is better than not. And of course you're too smart to sneak fine print past Tess, that's a given. Otherwise we'd be checking you for being an imposter."

"Now that that's been said and everything signed, meet the primary investment. Cindy is doing the primary backing and production costs for our first two projects, and then she can decide if she wants to continue investing or back out.

Anyway, profits may struggle some for a while because a portion of proceeds are going to charity. Some to Tess' neighborhood watch program, some to charities decided by our employees, but anyway...

Project number one is a 'good girl' art calendar. All superheroines in skimpier versions of their normal costumes and colors, and selling both the calendar and a 'making of' video, with interviews with the girls in the calendar costumes, talking about their home cities and charities, as well as giving people a little bit of a look into the people... and, of course, superheroines in bikinis. No nudity or the like, but... yeah... easy, low cost, travel would be worse, except, well, speedsters. Something to drum up some interest, prove our business model and connection to charities, and indicate we can handle this, so we can maybe get real interest and more investment for science fiction."

Jai nods along as he listens. It all seemed well planned out, to be expected really given the people involved so far.

"Sounds great Steven. And really, charities is the best reason for profit struggling anyway. But yeah, travel costs, set up times, shipping of equipment and the like are all going to be almost a non-issue, should leave more for the charities and profits that way. Great start up idea, well actually, great idea in general, but specifically a great one for a first project. Shouldn't be hard to do, and it's certainly attention grabbing and girls in bikinis is never a bad thing. So, you got your first set up crew and whatever odds and ends you need on board right now," he says as he hands back the base working rate paperwork, signed of course, to Steven.

"Well, that's sort of it. We have a principal photographer end film editor, we have a lead producer, we have legal, and a little help. We also have several models, hoping at least 10 will stay committed. We have some locations. But we don't have any crew. I was kind of hoping you'd be up for a lot of set up, carrying stuff, moving, lighting... as well as maybe helping with some of the interviews. I'm going to ask Jo Kent to be our primary interviewer, give her some media face time, since she wants to go into journalism, but there's plenty of room there. Where we're critically short at the moment though is stage crew."

"Don't worry, I'm good for all that. Fast is good and once we get a system down and figure out what works it'll be even more efficient. Great to hear Jo's involved, no trouble helping her at all. I think you've got your stage crew here. Don't think you're going to be critically short anymore, and if Iris is on board too, even less so."

"Iris is one of the models." Steven replies, a little curious how he's going to take that. "She came to the first meeting - signed on right away. Don't worry, I'll let Jo interview her."

"Really?!" Jai can't help but laugh in disbelief. "I was going to say I'm surprised that I haven't heard that before but...I just signed part of the reason why and Irey knows I'd tease her. Though I think if anyone other than you asked it'd be harder to get her to agree to that."

"Jo's going to be doing the interviewing anyway, and if you want Irey to keep a straight face and give a decent interview you might not want me too close around. Gotta pack that girl extra sunscreen."

"Yeah, exactly. Tess has the list of who has requested different months so far. We'll get some more commitments and start shooting once I've talked to Jo. Then July is going to be a group shot, with one more in December if we only have 10."

"Sort of. I need to hire us a hair and makeup person, and have someone in mind. Then I need to talk to Jo. As soon as either they're on board, or we find someone else if they're not, we'll start location scouting. Petra has offered Warriors, but we need a number of different locations. So you and I are going to do a tour of America to find the perfect spots... that will not charge licensing fees."
