Founders Day Parade and Celebration
The Founders Day Parade and Celebration was one of the biggest celebrations in Gotham. It was a day where the citizens of Gotham came out and showed their pride in their city. The festivities started in the morning at City Hall with a speech from the mayor and continued throughout the day. The largest parade of the year was held in the afternoon and fireworks lit up the sky in the evening. Merchants and restuarants set up kiosks on the sidewalks and the citizens shopped and ate as they watched the day's activities.

The day would also celebrate the victory of Anthony Sullivan in the mayoral race and it would be his first speech as mayor. The speech he gave was short, but had the citizens cheering by the end. The sun climbed into the sky and the parade started. Floats, marching bands and various other groups marched in the parade as it made its way through the streets of Gotham.

"Robin?" she wheezed and then started coughing up more blood. She had to make sure Thomas was okay. She didn't care much about what happened to her, just that Thomas had made it out okay.

Maria blinked and for a moment she thought it was Tomas near her, but her vision cleared a bit and she saw /him/. Of all people to be rescued by it had to be him. And now he knew her identity. Shit happened and there was nothing she could do about it.

It was easier to breathe without the heavy suit and masks on. Breathing was more important.

"Thanks," she said.

	Maria stayed unconscious and would remain that way until after Skanda had gotten her to the doctor and he operated on her to repair the broken rib and her lung. Some time after being patched up she opened her eyes and groaned. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Tomas checked in on some other things, including his sister and Iota, and the general state of affairs. The Joker returning, even in rumor, was big. Even if he's supposed to not care. The Joker has a way of making an impact, and this impostor had the right sense of scale, anyway.

He's back and sitting in a chair beside the bed when she starts to stir.

"You're going to be out of action for a while."

"Yes I do, and not just because of you. I operate in this town too... and after you go over this with whoever used to wear that suit, if they're still around, they're going to tell you that that might have been the real Joker. And given how familiar they are with each other, I suspect that if it is, he's figured out that wasn't the original guy in the suit. And if that's the case, he's going to tear the town apart til he gets the real thing... which is bad for everyone. That stunt was clever... but it just bought time. We need to think on what comes next."

He frowns. After all of her talk about being inclusive, letting people know what was up and coordinating - and then pulling her, broken ribs and a punctured lung, out of the fire. And now she proves she's a Bat after all.

He stands up, removing the mask for a moment. Only fair.

"Sure. Consider me out of your business. Good luck." he responds, pulling his mask back on and heading out the door to let her be.

Maria blinked. That was Tomas! Oh this was going to hurt but she couldn't just let him walk away.

She bit back the pain as she moved to get out of the bed. Her feet hit the floor and almost went out from under her when she tried to stand, but she managed to stay mostly upright.

She wobbled as she went after him. "You don't get to hit and run," she said as she reached for his arm.

"Too damn bad," she said. She tried to act tough, but it was hard when she was a little unsteady on her feet. "I'm not going back to bed."

"First...thank you. For saving my life. And Robin's. Second...." Maria hated to say the next part. "If you want to help with the Joker, fine. It's not going to be easy and we could use the help." The last thing she wanted was him walking away and she didn't want Bruce thinking he could put the suit back on. "Just...don't walk away."

"Ok, first, go back to bed. I'll come with you, sit down, talk stuff over, whatever. Just get off your feet before you break something. I promise, I'm not leaving." he replies, trying to help steer her back towards the bed.

"My family has a lot of ties to Gotham too... seeing as we're being straight with each other. I know what the Joker can do. And even if I hadn't been inclined to help before, he'd end up screwing up everything we're here for too."

"We're not even to that step yet. You need to talk to your people, and I need to talk to mine. Neither of us are in this alone, and neither is used to giving ground. And that was fine before... but now, that will get people killed.

Then you rest and recover while we put down some eyes and ears. Because you and Robin going in half-broken will get you both killed... and any of us going in blind will also get all of us killed. This isn't about territory or ego anymore. Not with these stakes. Because most of the bad guys want money or power or whatever. The Joker wants one last showdown with Batman... and he'll burn down everything til he gets it. And due to the fact you showed up, I'm guessing that's just not going to happen for whatever reason."
