Let This Be Your Last Battlefield
The small planetoid was uninhabited and nothing more than a rock in space rolling around double stars. It was the most unassuming place, but it would be the site of a battle that would determine the fate of the universe.

	Sarah has been trying to practice with the gems, finding it a lot more difficult than it would seem. With Adam Warlock gone, its hard to trust anyone else's guidance either. Still, she does what she can to prepare herself for the battle to come while she waits for Thanos' return. (Reply to this)(Thread)

	He knows how to use the gems, she doesn't, and he starts with a big advantage in raw power. This is going to be worse than fighting the Hulk, she's sure of it. Still, it falls to her. 	She brings the shield up. Sure, he cracked it before, but that was with all the gems in his possession. This time it holds, absorbing the blow as she brings the hammer about, the head crackling with energy, both from her build-up and channeling the power gem - the one she's had the easiest time working with. 	She blocks the first, then a swing connects. Sarah goes flying, skidding along the ground. The power gem flashes green, and she's quickly back to her senses. She lifts off the ground, then charges, flying at Thanos, leading with the shield. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Thanos doesn't laugh. There is no hint of a smile from him either. He is taking this battle very seriously. He does not even feel a ping of satisfaction from what he has done so far to Sarah. Instead he dodges to the left. If she were not flying he would try to trip her. Instead he grabs at her intending to whirl her around to throw her like a foot ball. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	She's glad she takes her lessons seriously, and had them from one of the best for much of her life. She gets whirled abount, but then does a judo shift, planting a foot and trying to use his spin and momentum to fling Thanos instead. Normally he'd be far too strong, even for her, but she can at least get a little extra oomph from the power gem. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	He is surprised actually by what she does. He is thrown because he didn't expect her to be able to do that. He goes up and over her landing on his back. If he was a lesser being the air would have rushed out of him. But he is Thanos so he quickly gets up on his feet. "You..... Are unexpected." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"That's the idea." she replies, starting to get into the swing of this fight. He's stronger, more experienced, but he's also not used to fighting hand to hand when he doesn't have to.

And it hits her, with the whole 'unexpected' bit, she has more gems. She doesn't know how to make them do wildly odd things, but maybe she can work them into her regular routine a little. Really do the unexpected.

She taps into the mind gem, reinforcing her will, wiping out any doubt this will work. It has to work.

She taps the reality gem - for now, she knows how Mjolnir works, can use all the tricks. Its usually beyond her, but she's gotten better. And for the moment, the gem makes it real.

With the space gem, she makes sure her accuracy is perfect. No more mishaps or needing to guess. Likewise, she makes sure no one else is affected by her effort.

And with the power gem and the hammer, she slams it down, calling up a localized cosmic storm, a true tempest in a teapot, bringing the full fury of the cosmos down on Thanos, including a lightning bolt, empowered by the power gem, from out of the clear, starry field above.

There was no way to avoid it. Thanos was caught in the middle of the maelstrom. Cosmic energy and fury surrounded him, assaulting him. Then the lightning struck. There was an inhuman scream from the Mad Titan as the electricity and cosmic energy assaulted him.

The few moments felt like an eternity as pain coursed through him. Thanos wasn't used to this kind of pain or assault.

The lightning dissipated and Thanos staggered a moment before he fell to one knee. The blows made him pause for a few moments.

Without the mind gem, she'd have been shocked. No way that should have worked. But it did. As it is, there's no doubt, no question. Slowly working out working with the gems more and more, strategies and plans race through her mind, while reality subtly shifts to give her an edge. She doesn't dare trying anything on a larger scale, but its getting easier.

Mjlonir crackles not only with lightning and mystical power as usual, but a faint green glow as she feeds the energy of the power gem into it as it whirls. With Thanos on a knee, she flings the empowered hammer.

"You've overstepped yourself for once. It all ends today."

Anger and rage burned inside the Titan. "You will die, girl!" He started climbing to his feet when the empowered hammer struck.

It pushed him back a bit and he went back down on one knee. Thanos roared in part from rage and in part from pain. He didn't bother to waste time climbing to his feet, instead her brought his hands up and unleashed a torrent of cosmic energy at the girl.

	She barely gets the shield up in time. He shattered her dad's shield before, but that was with the full gauntlet. Even so, she can feel the heat and force through it, and is forced steadily back. Her confidence, and with it, her hold on the mind gem's power falters a little as she fights to hold her ground. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	She's caught off guard by his sudden rush of speed. Before, in sheer speed, they were close. She thought she'd have the shield up in time. Instead she gets slammed backwards hard by the right, going staggering, barely keeping her feet, too stunned for the moment to even try and counter offense. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Thanos let time resume to normal speed and laughed. Not an honorable fighter, he pressed the attack. He rushed in, energy shooting from his eyes and when he got close enough he tried to hit her again. There was no need for the time gem at the moment. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

She blocks the energy, but the punch connects, doubling her over. She can barely feel the energy of the mind gem now, and with it, her control over the reality and space gems slip as well.

The power gem, at least, comes pretty naturally, and helps keep her upright, if barely. She swings back a couple times without connecting, leaving herself briefly open for counterattacks.

And he finally makes a mistake. And a big one.

That particular maneuver is a favorite of the Hulk's. Her least favorite sparring partner. She's still quite sure she's unhappy about having had to fight the Hulk enough times to have started learning his moves, but there it is.

She doesn't need to think about it, luckily. The counter is automatic. Duck inside easy reach, drop to one knee for solid base, shield up to block the axe-handle chop, hammer in an upward swing, first shot to Thanos' gut, then a follow up under the chin.

	Thanos was caught completely off guard. The blows connect and he got hit once, then again and went flying backwards. He hit the ground and skidded to a stop. It was a few seconds before he started to climb to his feet. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

A few seconds gives her the time she badly needed to recover. Much as she'd liked to have been right back at him while he was stunned, she's not in a lot better shape herself. Luckily, with the power gem, she recovers quickly.

As he's clambering to his feet she flings the hammer, but its just the lead in. She's less than half a second behind it, flying after her hammer throw, leading with the shield.

	Thanos was in the process of getting to his feet when the hammer came flying in. It struck him square in the face. Then came the strike from the shield. That connected against the side of his head. Thanos was the strongest Eternal, but even he had to obey the laws of physics. The force of the blows knocked him back down to his feet. He struck out blindly. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Using the shield as a weapon means it isn't in ideal position for defense. His combat instincts are also solid. He connects, sending her flying, skidding along the ground to land in a heap, struggling back to her feet. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
