Maelstrom pauses, focusing his efforts. Something is trying to block his control of the weather, and something is draining off some of the power.

Not sure what, he angrily pours more and more 'juice' into it, trying to aggressively expand the storm and drive New York into a panic.

This is not his specialty, and even Lucas is well aware he doesn't have the raw power to stop this entirely on his own. Still, he can slow it down, limit some of the chaos.

And he has to try.

Lucas continues to chant and pray to the air spirits, asking for their help, limiting some of the greater extremes of the mutant power.

The use of magic was something that easily caught Akilah's attention. Naturally, she was drawn to it. She stopped short of Lucas, wary of his praying and the markings strewn about. She didn't identify with his prayers, but she could sense the direction - the flow - of his magical efforts. Her mouth moves as she unleashes spells.

Luckily, Akilah knows a thing or two about the weather.

Even if the two sets of magic aren't precisely in unison, they're still effective enough together to stalemate the storm. Its not receding, but its not spreading any more either, and here and there, the intensity is weakening.

Daniel comes in as well. He isn't the same kind of mystic as Lucas or as the lovely Akilah. His own brand of magic is much more aggressive but in no way truly black.

He lands then weaves together a very basic spell that mimics a magic missile throwing five bolts of magical force at Maelstorm himself intent on knocking him out.

Maelstrom thought he was out of sight of the entire field - certainly not visible to the mages from their relatively safe position. So when a third shows up and actually locates him, much closer to the main field of battle from where Lucas inscribed his circle - and then has the audacity to actually wound him with one of those bolts, he quickly shields himself with every defensive effect he knows, wind and radiating lightning and fog - and flees into the safety of the statue.

It doesn't stop the storm - he can cause it to happen whether he can see it or not, but it will make it easier to fight, now that Maelstrom is limited to just trying to increase its power in general, and less capable of precise, directed effects.

Sensing something changed, even though he can't see Maelstrom from the relatively safe place he put up, and didn't even know who, specifically, was creating the storm, Lucas redoubles his efforts, pouring his considerable will into one storm front, pushing it back slowly, bit by bit.

Akilah, too, sensed the change. However, her efforts were focused still on the storm and trying to push it back.

"Arg!" He guards himself then snarls in anger as he has to dodge a bolt of lightning.

But he thinks this helped. He takes a jar of pennies out and draws a circle around himself and begins to focus. He is going to pull the power off of the storm as much as he can. Now that the other magic user can't do too much more directly the tides might just turn.

It did help. It also becomes obvious, however, why Lucas set up to do most of the magicking so far away from the field - an undefended spellcaster is a vulnerable one. Seeing the circle made and the casting begun, Winterkill lunges around from cover, trying to grab hold of one of Daniel's hands to begin sucking his body heat from him, betting a spellcaster with a frostbitten hand won't be as effective as usual.

During the chaos of the battle between Rampage and Andrew, Aaron was able to evade and get away from Flux and Twitch and his powers now felt like they were back to normal. Aaron had made his way into the Statue of Liberty and was currently making his way up to top. Aaron could feel the electrical energy emanating from there and if he had to guess the source of it was the same person who had messed with his ball lightning earlier.

He's right, there's a person here, utterly focused on trying to overpower the mages messing with his storm. Because of that focus, right now, he doesn't notice Aaron.

Once Aaron sees Maelstrom, too tired to try something fancy and wanting to avoid accidently electrifying the Statue of Liberty Aaron decides to sneak up behind Maelstrom to grab him and give him a massive shock.

Distracted and hurt by the earlier attack, Maelstrom doesn't notice until its too late. He takes the full shock, all the juice Aaron can manage - his own powers apparently make him a little more resistant to such things. Likewise, as he gets shocked, he radiates a powerful surge of energy, electricity coursing back through his attacker.

But at last, it goes quiet, and Maelstrom falls. The storm doesn't fade with him, but at least he's not manipulating it anymore.

Maelstrom’s surge of electricity does nothing to Aaron but charge up a drained Aaron with electricity, but he’s exhausted from running and his earlier battle and is about ready to collapse himself. The only real damage the surge does do is more damage to his uniform leaving it with more burnt holes in it adding to the ones from earlier.

After Maelstrom goes down Aaron falls down against a wall next to him, he needed to rest before he could do anything else to help out the others, a lot of rest.
