Good Food, Good Times
Justin Rhdoes is tired of lying in a hospital bed. His sister (he's still getting used to that) has had a tougher time of it than he has, so he doesn't think it's right for him to stay cooped up in a bed. After showering, getting dressed and "asking" to be allowed some time to himself, Justin takes Tony, his A.I., and decides to go see New York for himself.

He's still awed at how new everything looks here. This isn't a world ravaged by battle and bombs, and the people walk around here without a care in the world for their safety. Justin's awed by all of it, never having seen this many people in a single place that weren't hiding for their lives. After several blocks of walking, though, Justin feels fatigue set in. He curses his weak heart for the millionth time, and decides that food and drink are in order, since all he's eaten is infirmary food over the last week. He's got a bit of money as well, a gift from Rhodey.

He still doesn't know if the man likes the idea of having a son, and he still hasn't meet Miss Potts, his mother.

"Tony, locate nearest restaurant. I want a burrito." he says. He hasn't had a burrito in months.

Minutes later, he's in line at a place called Chipotle, trying to decide if he wants steak or pork.

He's tempted to order both.

"Sunday. Unfortunately Monday comes right after it. Favorite food is ice cream, though. Favorite...car."

" '67 Gran Torino. I need to find out if they have any in this di---district." he says, trying to cover that he almost slipped and said dimension.

"Ice cream isn't really a food." he says.

"I'm sure they do. There's a guy in the Bronx who is sort of a classic car headhunter. He usually finds the kind that need a little love, but he can find ANYTHING." Doesn't mention her Mustang yet. "What do you mean ice cream isn't a food?"

"Um...just what I said? It's a desert, but not an actual food." he says.

"Hey, do I need an introduction to talk to this guy? If he can find a Gran Torino, I'd be willing to work something out with him." Justin says.

"Desert is food! It's delicious food." She grins.

"You can just tell him Chris gave you his number. He's a friend of mine. He'll treat you well. Good guy. Just...don't stare at his, um...extra arm."

"No problem. I don't have an issue with people who have differences or disabilities." he says. Since I have one myself.

A strong guy with a weak heart. Balance, they call it.

"I'd like it. How do I get his number?" he asks, testing out the watch. Yes, he spent most of the time they were apart learning about it. Even Tony was impressed.

My friend, I advise that you marry this woman, and let her work on me for the rest of your lives.

He was glad she wasn't around to hear that.

"Let me touch your watch."

She smirked at him but was very serious. That's all it would take, a touch and she would tell the watch what the number was and even set a reminder for Justin to call him. Her long fingers reached towards him.

Justin allows her to do, wondering if that was 'code' as Tony called it.

"There you go. It's in there under Car Guy." She pulls her hand back, but not before gently brushing her fingers over his hand. It wasn't code (and yes, she heard him wonder) but it could have been. She pushed THAT thought out of her head though as she pulled up to the front of a very elegant looking building. A valet came to the car and opened the door for her and for Justin.

"Scratch the car and I will gut you." She smiled sweetly and then went up to Justin.

"I'm glad you like cars."

Justin blinked at her non-veiled threat to the valet, but he smiles at Christina anyway.

"I like cars and the beautiful women who drive them." he said, offering her his arm.

He walks her to the door of the restaurant.

"Is that code, Justin?" She smirks at him and takes his offered arm, walking with him into the restaurant.

The establishment screams oppulence: all of the fabrics are lush and luxe, the wood is dark and highly polished, and there are marble and brass accents everywhere. Even the staff is clad in designer clothing. Christina doesn't bat an eye as she walks up to the hostess, who smiles at her, acknowledges her by name and whisks them away to a private table.

"I hope you're okay with this, but there is dancing at the club."

Justin stammers a moment, unable to think of a witty reply for her question about code...so he simply smiles.

The smile vanishes as they walk inside. He's never been in place that's so...much before. They didn't have places like this back home. He's even more surprised when Christina has them taken to a private table.

"There's dancing? Like...on purpose?" he says, a little nervous. He's so not a dancer.

"Do you dance?" he asks.

"Yes. On purpose. It's a club where music is the focus. Dancing is a natural part of that. And I do dance. I can teach you."

"I'm a terrible dancer, you know. Two left feet." he says. He's not certain he brought enough money for this place.

"But this club sounds great, even still."

"I'm an excellent teacher. I'm sure we'll manage to have you dancing in no time."

She smiles at him and a waiter comes up, leaning down to say something to Chris. She gives him her attention for a moment, nodding and smiling before reaching into her purse to pull out a black card, handing it to the waiter.

"Sorry about that. It's been awhile since I was here and I needed to give them my new charge. It's a little embarrassing." She shakes her head. "We're good now though. Do you...drink? The wine here is amazing."

And starts at $500 a bottle.

Whoa, whoa whoa.

"Did you just pay for dinner?" Justin asks, slightly put off. "You didn't need to do that."

"And no, I don't drink. Not good with my medication." he says.

"I did." She smiles warmly. "I...asked you on a date. I ask, I pay."

She's glowing, very proud of that. Of her independence. Being able to do for herself makes her happy and happy is a beautiful expression on her.

Of course, she frowns a little, worry creasing her face.

"Medication? I didn't know. Well! They have wonderful iced tea here!" She puts the wine list away. If he can't drink, neither can she.

He's a bit irked about her paying, but he says nothing further. He was taught by the old-guard that the man pays when he's with a woman. That mode of thinking is probably outdated, but it's how he is.

Not that he's actually had a date before this or anything, but she doesn't know that.

"Oh, yeah. I...I have a heart condition. HCM. A lot of strenuous activity is bad for me." he says. "But I love iced tea."

Good job, Christina. You invited him to go dancing and he can't Awesome. He probably is going to think you're thoughtless and won't call you after tonight.

"I didn't know. Then I suppose dancing is out. The club is amazing just for listening to music, too, though." She offers him a smile. "So you love iced tea? What else do you like, Justin?"

Help me with information so I don't screw up again.

Can't even go dancing like a normal person, Justin. You'll be lucky if she answers the phone anymore after this.

"Well, we can still go. I just...you didn't know. We just met, so don't feel bad. It's not one of those things you can tell by just looking at someone. And...I'm actually glad you didn't already know." he says.

"Iced tea is great. I love cooking, flying, and working in the lab. I like to build things. I also like to sketch, but I'm better with machines than people." he offers.

"I'm a terrible cook. I burn water and yeah, I'm much better with machines. Machines...seem to understand me. But you saw me fix your watch." She smiles. "What things do you build?"

"Oh, lots of things. Things that help people do their jobs." he says.

Bombs, mines, suits of powered armor capable of fighting large-scale wars...you know, stuff that helps people do their jobs. he thinks to himself.

"I'd like to build a pacemaker that doesn't require upkeep, some day. Help people with issues like mine to live normal, active lives." he says.

Justin beams, quite without meaning to.

"Thank you. Not many people find my work interesting, but it's good to know that someone can." he grins.

"So, what's good here? I love steak, but there are just so many kinds. Care to suggest anything?" he asks.
