Back home again
Ok, so the trip to Somalia was weird. But she did the job, and found her long lost father. Family reunion done, time for things to get a little more back to what passes for normal in the surreal place Kelly lives.

She calls the only other person outside of 'work' she has all that much contact with.

Melissa can't help the smile that pulls at her lips at hearing Kelly's voice. Being with her is still new to Melissa, but she wouldn't trade it for anything. Of course, this isn't going to be her little secret forever, but for now, she wants to enjoy it while it lasts.

"It's no problem. You wanna come over? I can make food or something. No classes today, so I'm free if you want me." she smiles.

"You know I want you." she teases back. She tucks dad's head in her bowling ball bag, letting him sleep off the night of tequila and nachos. She packs a decent selection of guns, knives and her handcuffs, working on getting packed while she talks.

"Food would be great. Nothing much to eat on shipboard, and nothing but nachos and tequila since I got back last night... don't ask. I'll be over in twenty?"

"See you in twenty. Call me when you're at the front door and I'll buzz you in. I've got to turn off the...alarm system." Melissa says. It wouldn't do to have Kelly show up and get cut to ribbons by all the wards she has for her apartment.

Once they hang up, Melissa gets up, showers, then throws on sweats and a t-shirt, then goes looking through her fridge. Ramen, day-old Chinese, and milk greet her.

"Delivery it is." she mutters to herself, waiting for Kelly to arrive.

Kelly packs up her dad's head well to muffle any sound. He needs to meet the girlfriend, but meanwhile, he needs his sleep. And its one of those details she can work up to. She fishes through her clothes til she finds something with no blood or bullet holes, and heads for Melissa's, arriving about twenty minutes after her call.

Normally she'd just break in - but this is girlfriend place, here, she'll just call up like requested.

"Okay, just a second." she says, when she answers. Melissa kneels to the floor, concentrates, and disarms the wards so that Kelly can enter without issue. She reminds herself to finish that damned charm bracelet soon so that she doesn't need to go through this, and to make a spare for May, too.

"Come on up." she calls back down. Kelly knows that Melissa's place is on the third story. When she arrives, Melissa opens the door.

"Hey beautiful." she grins. "How was your trip?"

Kelly sets the bowling bag aside and puts her arms around Mel, trying to dip her low and kiss her, classic movie style.
"Oh, you know, crappy airline food, crappy boat food, shoot some pirates, get back on the boat, then the plane for more of the same."

Melissa is dipped, kissed and thoroughly surprised at that greeting, taking it for all it's worth. She likes it, and it shows in the blush that develops on her cheeks.

"Bring any souvenirs? Any bullets or knives? How many pirates did you kill?" Melissa asks. While she doesn't want to pry in her girlfriend's business, things like killing pirates are worthy of story.

"Well, I'm going to order something from the pizza place down the street. Is that better than tequila and nachos?" she asks.

"Oooohhh, pizza... yeah, that wins. As much meat, and as many peppers as can be packed on there? Or whatever you like... it just sounds good. And... geez... I don't know. I had a little help on this one, weirdly. At least a couple dozen, working for an ally of the Kingpin. Red wanted their ship blown up."

"Pizza it is, and some wings." Melissa says, going to make the call. She puts in the order, then hangs up the phone and goes to hug Kelly.

"Well, you did what the Boss Lady wanted, so it's all good. But why send back-up with you? She knows you're tough enough as it is.

Or did you find someone else with a mad-on for killing Kingpin's people?" she asks. After all, that was how they met.

Hugging her is easy - she was right there, almost pressed against Mel while she's making the call.

"Red didn't, the pirates were trying to throw my dad overboard. They were pretty piss-poor pirates though. None of them even had a peg leg, so he must have lost a step since the old days or he wouldn't have gotten tied up there. Still, it made the work quicker. No idea why he was there."

"They were trying to kill your Dad? I hope you buried the fuckers, then." Melissa says, a bit of a snarl in her tone as she thinks about it. If anyone were trying to hurt her dad, she'd likely kill them all and let God sort it out.

"Is your Dad okay? Are you okay?" she asks.

"I'm fine. Just glad to be home. My dad is... a long story. He wants to meet you, but I think he's sleeping off the tequila. I'll get there. The pirates... a couple of them might have had a chance to swim for it. The rest of them are in a lot of pieces." she replies casually. Its business.

"Good to finally meet my dad, anyway. Wasn't expecting it, but hey, small world. How've you been?"

Melissa leads her over to the couch and pulls Kelly into her lap.

"I've been better. I found a few more of John King's people, and got them to rat out where he is to me. Lo and behold, I go to kill the bastards and some do-gooder in a mask and tights finds it amusing to get in my way. He or she got a couple of good licks in on me, but they went home with a few slugs in their back and legs.

I call this balance." Melissa says. "Otherwise, I was just wondering when you'd be back and figured you'd get in touch when you were.

And I'd be up to meet your dad whenever you like. He's not going to have a problem with...us, is he?" she asks.

Kelly drapes herself over Melissa, leaning in to nuzzle and kiss her neck and jawline while she talks. The question about her dad gets a giggle.

"Uhm... no. No, definitely not. But I'll warn you, even for your standards, meeting him might be a bit of a shock. I'll call him when he's had some time to sleep off the tequila... shame about the do-gooder. I'll get back on helping you track the bastard down. Everyone needs a hobby."

Melissa makes sounds of approval as Kelly kisses her neck and jaw.

"Okay, good. Because you never know who's parents are going to have issues with people being people these days. Luckily, you won't have to deal with my parents on this at all." Melissa says, playing with Kelly's hair.

"Hobbies are fine, but getting between me and the guy I'm trying to kill is an infringement on my personal liberties. I mean, it's got to be in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights somewhere that you can't get in the way of a person's right to die, especially if they earned it." Melissa gripes.

"I'm glad you and your dad get along at least. Sounds like he doesn't handle his liquor very well, though. Tequila is the distilled blood of Satan from what I hear." she grins.

"Oh, he does. He has my healing factor - he just took in more than his current body weight of tequila." she explains casually, continuing to drape herself comfortably over Mel.

"And I understand, I'm happy to help you kill the guy, or keep people out of the way when we find him again. You know that."

She pauses, considering. "Ok, so no meeting the parents... not that I'm worried about what anyone thinks. But surely there's someone I should be meeting, if we're going to keep up this illicit little affair and make a bigger thing of it, hmm? I know you were the first person I called on getting home, anyway."

Melissa looks away at Kelly's mentioning of who she should meet. There's a lot they don't know about each other, and she's never told anyone about her family and what things have been like for her. She thinks most people wouldn't believe her, and the ones that do would get away from her as fast as possible.

She can lie and tell Kelly there's someone, or she can be honest. Today, for some reason, she choose the latter.

"Both of my parents are dead, Kelly, or as close to dead as one can get without being dead. The only other person you could really meet is my sister...who currently resides in a mental ward, which is tied to how my parents died.

After that...you and May are the only people I'm friends with. Most other people don't get that far with me." Melissa says. "Do you want this to be a bigger thing than it is?

I don't know about you, but you're the first girl I've been with so this is new to me. I'm not sure how it works."

Kelly ponders. There's not many times she's serious. This is one of them. She turns to straddle Melissa, face to face with her, for once not just draping herself all over her, but still close. Close enough to start by kissing her forehead.

"And you're the first girl... first person, I've let get close enough that I bothered to call you when I got back in town. You can share the whole... murder, racketeering, and general chaos with... and who didn't get freaked out by me when I started playing with the fancy toys. Or when I got up after being shot full of holes... that's usually a big turn off for people. That means a lot more to me than girl, boy, whatever."

She kisses her forehead again.

"So, basically... where do you want this to go? You comfortable enough with things to, say, introduce me to May? If the answer is no, we probably ought to keep it to fast dates and sneaking into each others apartment for a bit."

Melissa relaxes as Kelly straddles her, holding her close for several moments as she speaks. She didn't want to come across as needy or clingy, so she was fine with keeping it casual between them, but she couldn't deny that she always hoped it would be Kelly on the other end of the line when her phone rang.

"I like being with you and around you. You understand that people don't live in a perfect world and sometimes have to do ugly things to survive. Almost no one I know gets that, including May. She's my friend and I respect her...but she doesn't get me the way you do." Melissa says.

"I have no problem introducing you to May, Kelly. But we have to tone down the gun talk, because May comes from a family with a Mom, Dad and little brother. They're happy people with no problems, and May is, like, the perfect daughter. We don't want her to freak out or anything." Melissa says.

"But May is fun to be around and she's pretty funny. I think you'd like her."

She nods soberly. "I normally don't take things seriously. Benefits of being pretty damn near unkillable I guess. But for you, I'll tone it down. You might need to step on my toes or squeeze my hand a time or three... but I'll trust you to be my edit button." she agrees, after a little thought.

"And, yeah... I get that. I was pretty much literally born to shoot stuff. Its my work, I enjoy it. But now that I'm out on my own and working for Red, I'm finding out I kind of like having someone to call. So... you want to make this... whatever it is, a bit more serious? Cause if so... I've never done serious. You might have to help me along some... but I'm up for trying it out."

"Well, I've never done serious, either, so we're both playing it by ear...but you've got me if you ever need someone to call or just hang out with." Melissa says, leaning in to kiss her.

"And if nothing else, we can always go blow something up and talk afterward. But we can hang out with May on Friday after I get out of class. She tutors me in Chemistry, because I suck at it." Melissa laughs.

"So, anything else fun happen on your trip? Oh, I'll have a little gift for you on Friday, too. Figure you'll like it if you just want to stop by anytime." she says.

She returns the kiss happily.
"I figure we can blow stuff up anyway... those are dates, right?" she teases. "I'll definitely be all for that on Friday. I can help with some of the chemistry too... even if my focus is on homemade explosives, smoke bombs, hallucinogenics... that sorta thing. It counts, right? And... other than shooting pirates and meeting my dad for the first time... no, that was pretty much it. Though when I do introduce you, you're going to need to promise not to freak out."

"Blowing up warehouses building are certainly dates. So are cheeseburgers and gun-shopping." Melissa adds, enjoying the feeling of Kelly in her hands.

"And I'll gladly take your help with chemistry, too. I've always wanted to learn how to make a bomb...or acid." she says.

"As long as your dad isn't Charlton Heston or some other famous superstar, I'm pretty sure I won't freak out. And if he is, I'll try to keep a lid on it for you." Mel grins.

She snorts. "No, that's not why you'd freak out... well, you'll see." she replies with a grin.

"Gun shopping, huh? I need some new toys, and have some money to blow... I love it. Oh, and yeah, acid, bombs, no problem. We'll have you acing chem in no time. Just don't ask for my help with English lit."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]lady_hood

She kisses Kelly's shoulder. "I've got English Lit in the bag, lucky for both of us. But if that pizza doesn't get here soon, I'm going to fail self-control 101."

Melissa was intrigued about Kelly's dad, now that she mentioned he wasn't some big star; if that wasn't it, why would she freak out? She trusts Kelly to know her well enough that she can accept just about anything.

"But yes, gun-shopping. I know a guy who can get a sawed-off shotgun for me, but I wanted us to get a couple of nice things. And I wanted to get you a knife." she says.
