Birds of a Fire
Galactus was gone, Chandrillar had been saved. The Throneworld of the Shi'ar Empire and its royals were safe. Saved by the efforts of the X-Men and the former guardian of the M'krann Crystal, the Phoenix.

The Phoenix, bonded to Rachel Summers of Earth, daughter of Scott Summers and Jean Grey, the former host of the Phoenix, counterpart of another Rachel Summers who had also hosted a measure of the Phoenix's power.

The same Phoenix the Shi'ar had tried to kill or enslave numerous times. The same Phoenix a rogue faction of the Shi'ar had so feared, they'd tried to kill the entire Grey family and would have, if not for the timely intervention of the X-Men.

As Rachel rejoined the others, still surrounded by a corona of cosmic flame, she could feel the unease from... well, virtually the entire world.

Starbridge is staring in shock and horror.

Not at the Phoenix, at his mother's armsmen.

"I swear by all that is holy, I did not, see this happening," he tells the X-Men, trying to continue to stand near enough to them to indicate he's still with them while keeping his eyes on the approaching Guard.

To Gladiator. "This is insane. One should never make it a bad idea for people to save one's life."

Starbridge aside, the Shi'ar had never, ever, been Rachel's favorite people. Not after all the hell they'd put her family through. Not after all the sheer idiocy involved in an Empire whose members blindly followed whoever was on the throne.

And she would be damned if she ever let them lay a hand on her. In this, the Phoenix and she were in complete agreement.

Let the come. Let them try. I'll show them. I'll show them all!

The flaming corona of power around her focused as she blasted Gladiator with an energy burst, sending the mighty Stonian flying.

Starbridge assessed the situation for a moment before throwing himself toward oracle. Because, to be frank, his combat skills other than dodging were not tested enough to be very formidable. Oracle was one of the few whose hand-to-hand skills might indeed be less formidable. Since his psychic defenses were excellent, this left her with few choices short of pulling out a weapon and shooting him. And she wouldn't be quick to do that to His Imperial Highness.

Starbridge, that is. She might shoot Misha easily.

Oracle could not read Starbridge's mind, his psychic defenses were too strong for that. She was forced back into a defensive pose, trying to do her best to protect herself, stop him, but not do anything to harm the heir to the Empire.

Starbolt, flew towards Izzy, unleashing blasts of flame at her.

Warstar lurched towards Misha, gunports opening in C'cil's arms.

Manta glided through the air toward Aaron and Cait, winged cape spread-wide.

Hussar cracked her energy whip as she headed for Lucas.

Gladiator was already flying back, now enraged and ready to fight.

Zak totally had Lucas' back, or front. He charged Hussar from the side with a full-on tackle. "Hyaaaa!!
