Checking on the home team
Commander Fontaine, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., made the rounds when the special ops team came back in. After their last disastrous outing, she wanted to make sure they were still in one cohesive piece. The reports had been favorable.

She hadn't met the newest member yet, though she knew the contents of his file. She'd been the one to have it sent to Sammy for consideration. Her little gun nut, and Walker and Dugan, could always use someone with the ability to build a better gun.

Sammy's report had been terse but informative. The others' a little more informative. Landon was next on her list.

Sammy was speaking to another department entirely. Her first call had been into the head office and then routed around to get what she needed.

Her smiled turned into a scowl. "Fine, but remember what I said. Anybody trying to access those buildings will get hurt. You need my specialist."

She listened for a moment longer and disconnected with a hard tap.

"When S.H.I.E.L.D. picked you and Jake up, what were you doing?"

Fury's question causes a hard knot to form in the pit of Tech's stomach. He remembers that night like it was last night; he remembers the sound bright lights, the sound of the vehicles as S.H.I.E.L.D. came down upon them as though they'd been watching and waiting for the pair of them to show up.

"We headed to Jake's house to get all of our exit gear. Money, passports, plane ticks, the works. We were going to leave town for awhile until a particularly bad situation blew over." Tech says stiffly.

"Why do you ask?" he asks in return.

"Because I was just ordered to back off and sit tight." She grabbed the mug and went to warm it up with more coffee. Suspicions were piling up. S.H.I.E.L.D. picked them up, and Tech was released into her custody. It had to be it, why she was given his file. His file read like a gun nut's wet dream and she'd jumped on it.

Hell, another few beers last night and she might've jumped him.

"Can you tell me exactly what those warehouses contain?"

Tech blinks at her, not comprehending for a moment. He knew that Michael had been having some issues with a cartel out of the Dominican Republic; Jake mentioned that there was trouble during Jason's visit. But if they were telling Fury to back off, that meant things were really bad.

Usually, Michael Savoy knew when to keep his down, but without Jake there to do a lot of the day-to-day operations, Savoy now had to get his hands dirty.

"I can, if you can specify what you're looking for. Are you looking for simple small and heavy-caliber firearms, military grade vehicles, or technological weapons that are more at home in war zones and espionage training than an urban setting?" he asks.

Oh lord...

Sammy sank down into her chair, her jaw dropping open in shock. She hadn't been serious about the terrorism charge, only that it would take time to legally work out and they'd be able to retrieve Tech's... armory?

"Inventory lists. Every. Single. Item. That you are responsible for creating and storing in those locations. AND any other locations that might have slipped your mind."

"Very well. I'm going to have to dig up one of my old laptops in order begin this catalog. Never put anything anywhere anyone could see it, mostly because anything can be hacked at anytime." Tech tells her, starting to work out some of the basics from his list.

This would likely take a very long time, along with some other locations.

"Well, some of my older creations are down in the basement, along with those key devices I talked about earlier." he says, eating a piece of now-cold bacon.

"I just hope no one wants to keep the hovercraft. I hadn't even tried it out yet." Tech laments.

He didn't say there were no other locations. That was the first thing her mind latched onto and tossed into the mix of information she was sorting while drinking more coffee. Breakfast was forgotten.

The head office suspected. Had to suspect. He had literally been put into her custody and she hadn't suspected who...what she was sitting on.

"Does anybody else," she said slowly, thinking ahead, "know that you have some items here in the basement?"

"Well, Gran knows there's stuff down there. It used to be my Papaw's workshop down there. He got me started with machines and such. Jake would know, just because I spent a lot of time down there." Tech says, trying to think of who else might know.

"Oh, and Alcee Hernon, my old buddy from school and Bill Colton, who lives across the cemetery." Tech tells her. "He...had to come in after me once when Gran got a little worried about me.

Yeah, those should be all the people that would know about it." he says.

"Your brother's girl know?" She tapped her phone/PDA and began taking notes. They were going to need more space. She'd get Alice working on that, probably west in one of the desert bases.

"No. Jake didn't like Jess knowing too much about his work, and Jess doesn't come over here much, especially now that she's expectin'." Tech says.

"Although, she does have one of my guns that Jake gave her in case of emergencies." he says.

"Are these other places in Savoy's control, too?" She didn't look up as she made her notes. "I also want to know what 'bad situation' you both were fleeing, but that can wait until we're out of the house and have a little more privacy."

Tech pauses for a moment, noting how interested Fury has suddenly become in his work. She's almost become a different person right before his eyes. Or maybe she's always been this person and he's been fooling himself.

"No, not all of them. One of the warehouses is in Jake's name and Savoy doesn't know about it." Tech says, adjusting the number by one.

"Everything you need to know is in my file, Fury." he says.

"Obviously not everything, or this wouldn't have come up to bite my ass, would it?"

She looked up from what she was doing to fix him with a frank gaze. "Your file must have been censored before I read it. It comes down to the fact that I can't protect this team if I'm running on misinformation. I'm not losing anymore lives because I was unprepared."

Tech dislikes the direction this conversation is taking. She's re-opening scabs and wounds that he's trying to heal and she will see this in the strained, haunted expression on his face. He rubs a hand through his hair and sighs.

"I'll give you as much information as you need, Fury. I will not put.your life or the lives your team in danger." he says.

He's just not sure where they'll stand when she knows.

" S.H.I.E.L.D. managed to get an agent deep inside Savoy's organization a year before Jake was incarcerated. He gathered a lot of information to put us away. Jake and I were going to run because there was a war brewing with a cartel out of Columbia. Someone sold us out and they were waiting for us when we got there." Tech tells her.

Sammy has her own wounds to deal with, head first as usual.

"Jake was put into Leavenworth for safe keeping, and you were attached to a special ops team of enhanced agents. S.H.I.E.L.D. is up to a lot that I should have been told so we could expect this. Since they don't me something, I won't tell them something. Now, I get dressed and we get moving."

She rose from the chair, leaving her phone/PDA by her mug. "I'll be right back. And Tech? If I ever hear you say 'your team' in that tone of voice again, I will not be responsible for my actions. It's your team as well and we will look out for each other. Understand?"

Tech nods at Fury. "Ah understand, Fury."

"How are we going to do this? Ah'll need to get the key devices for the warehouses to our people before they go in." he says.

"That's not a problem. Actually, I'd like to do that before anyone goes in. Michael probably won't let on about the warehouses if they try to take him today." Tech says, getting up from the table. He's still sore, but he has a bit more mobility than before.

"I'll get the remotes and we're ready to go."

Sammy smiled, quick and bright. Tech had gifted her with a mission that held all the promise of kicking somebody's ass before the day was out, and that made her happy. "I'm not going out like this. It'll take me a bit to shower and dress. Then we go if you're ready."

"Oh damn. And Ah was hopin' to see more leg." Tech says nonchalantly.

Then his eyebrows raise in shock at the fact that he'd just spoken his thought aloud. He turns a bit red and looks for shiny new change of topic!

"I'll go get those preparations made now." he says, heading outside to go to the basement.

Sammy wouldn't have thought it was anything but a joke if he hadn't turned red. And disappeared fast.

Well.

She poured more coffee and carried it upstairs with her.
