The Perils of Knowing Stuff (open to Kelly and Melissa)
Not long after her arrival in New York, Beatrice Dayspring was walking down the street to her hotel after handling some business at the local SSI office.

Sometimes she hated 'conveniently' knowing all kinds of things about the people who passed through her Personal Space. That cutie over there had some unfortunate medical conditions, for instance. And the guy who just passed was on heroin, and -- and the two women over there were carrying a total of seven guns, four knives, and not a single permit.

Beatrice couldn't help but slow down to give them a second look.

"Nuh uh, baby. If she's a cop, then she's one of the types who went military, then joined the force when she couldn't hack civvie life. She knows how to handle herself, at least one style of martial arts, some regimentation. That twitch of her hand means she's either carrying..." which is totally hot. "...or she's used to carrying. Good eyes too, or good instincts. Something has her hot under the collar."

Melissa lets the situation play out in her head. She still hasn't turned to look at whoever this is, but she can hear the hitch Kelly's voice that tells her she sees something she likes.

This is either a really good day waiting to happen, or a really bad day that's going to end up with them dumping another body.

"Two choices. We go over and ask her for her number, or we go and ask her what the hell her problem is. I've got my K-Bar ready to go." Mel says.

There's a feeling Bea gets sometime...like her Personal Space's figurative cursor has just turned into an hourglass. Loading data. The Realization that comes is almost never something she wants to know.

Like the Python, Desert Eagles, Hardballers, and disaseembled sniper rifle the skinnier one's carrying are pleasant information to begin with. She's going to look at her paper and see what happens.

Kelly grins. "Either way, the day gets more interesting." She doesn't bother to hide that she's approaching the woman with the newspaper, peeking at it.
"Jets won, Spider-Man is still a menace, Charlie Brown still doesn't kick the ball in this one, the classifieds are overpriced, there's no jobs unless you're a stripper or in construction, and the lottery numbers were... were... damn, I forgot my numbers. Can I have yours?"

"So do you make a habit of staring at other women's girlfriends or did mine do something special to get your attention?" Melissa asks, as she appears on the other side of the woman, looking at the paper, too.

"Don't do anything crazy, cutie pie. This is still a good neighborhood...at least for another few seconds." Melissa says.

"3, 7, 9, 18, 33, and 42. Those'll have to do for you. And my stock's up, too," Beatrice calmly tells the scrawny one as she carefully sets aside the paper in a way the shorter one can see her hands -- open to neither the lottery nor the financials pages, but newspapers are a purely aesthetic thing to her anyway.

She's ready to go for her ASP as soon as she sense's they're going for their weapons.
"To be frank? You girls triggered my mutation. I realize if I had a Python and a K-Bar, I'd want every chance to use them, too, but staring's not much of grounds to do it in public, isn't it?"

"And here I was thinking 32-26-34." Kelly replies without missing a beat. She has a thumb hooked in her waistband, but isn't going for her gun.

"And you totally stole my thunder with the python line, damn you. But, hey, wait... so you're like, a recessive-gene metal detector? That's pretty cool. Do you see through clothes and sniff people's pockets for drugs too?"

"She's cute, babe, but I wouldn't give her 32. Maybe 30.5, max." Melissa says, studying the woman.

"Now if you're going to be Frank, I should be Jill. That sounds fair. The issue, Frankie, is that staring is rude in just about every culture in the world. You wanna be a good Samaritan and inform on people who carry guns, head on down to Hell's Kitchen and I'll give you some addresses.

Otherwise, maybe you shouldn't stare at people you don't know unless you're A)buying them drinks, or B) Want to find out if that's really a K-Bar they've got on them." she tells her.

"So...why don't we start over, Frankie? Would you like to have some coffee or do we play Nightmare on 4th Street?"

"As I'm pretty sure by now you aren't loose ends from a job," and are, in fact, perfectly coincidental heavily-armed sociopaths, and she's laying out a strategy of where what's concealed, where to hit, and when to draw, in case. "We've got no problem."
There's still something, though. Something that can't be processed at this point. If it's not them, then what?

"My name is Beatrice. And yes, I had to have the hard-to-explain ability instead of just telekinesis or something. Coffee's good."

"There's that twitch, again, baby, she's definitely packing." Which makes her better in Kelly's opinion, of course. Someone used to going about armed, but going without is worse than being out naked as far as she's concerned.

"I think she's ok though. So, thigh holster? Jacket concealed? Paired holsters? Or do I get to frisk you?" she replies cheerily.

"And while you're thinking about that, there's a great shop two blocks down."

Yes, she knows all the best places to load up on caffeine and sugar.

Melissa is already reciting the spell for the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak in her head. If honey-pants here decides to draw down on them, she'll only get a chance to shoot one of them down.

"Okay, Bea. The girlfriend thinks you're okay, so I'm inclined to give you a chance. No, we're not loose ends from your last job. We don't leave loose ends and I'd have reservations about getting paid to shoot you. You're pretty cute." Melissa says. Of course, she'd still shoot the woman if the paycheck was large enough. She'd just be sad about it later.

"I'm Mel, let's have some coffee and talk about better ways to say hello to each other." Melissa says.

Of course, she's not walking in front of Bea anytime soon.

She can't believe she let herself get into this situation. This is what she hates about her powers throwing new information at her. Sometimes, she reacts so smoothly it's like a particularly dangerous ballet. Sometimes...she doesn't.

And now they're going to take her ASP. Damn it. "Shoulder. Boring old shoulder holster. Will you take my word, all things considered, that you don't need to check my teeth for firing pins? You're already going to have your hands all over my baby."

She calls her gun her baby. This girl just got five times hotter.

"Why the fuck would I take your gun? That's be like taking your hand off. We didn't leave any loose ends, and we aren't part of your last job, so we might as well just go have coffee and start over, right? Besides, that's a nifty power... and who knows, play your cards right, who knows what my hands might end up all over?"

"Well, what she said, basically. I just want to /see/ it. In fact...we might be able to use a girl like you from time to time, Bea. If you're up for it and not really a cop, that is." Melissa says. Sometimes, an extra gun hand is useful, even if you have to split the pay a little thinner.

She can see that Kelly finds Bea interesting, so that's a plus.

"So, where were you going before you stopped to check us out?" Melissa asks.

Bea smiles a little. "I think I have a CNC in my contract, but I appreciate the offer."

And the girls will get a careful look at a lefthanded ASP 9mm, old, obviously, but exceedingly well-cared-for.

"I was on my way to my hotel."

Kelly lifts the back of her jacket to show off her very well used, but always babied Colt Python, then draws open her jacket to show off the twin eagles, once she's done checking out the woman's ASP.

"Who do you work for?" She asks casually. After all, they just finished a job, wouldn't hurt to line another one up. "Because if someone is paying a woman who moves like you enough to include an exclusivity clause, color me intrigued. Or just color me. You like edible body paints?"

Melissa opens her purse to show the K-Bar, and beneath it, her own twin Glocks.

"Yeah, a CNC is a pretty big deal." she says. "I like your gun. You take care of your possessions, which is a good trait."

"Does your employer treat you well?"

Beatrice looks appropriately impressed at everything.
"SSI. Normally, we tend to be worth each other's while." When Silver's not being curtly inexplicable and Bea's not being sloppy. "And thank you very much. My mother always says you've got to make your stuff last well, 'cause not much else will."

Kelly whistles. "Symkarian, no wonder. Wild Pack or military?" she asks without missing a beat as she, yes, skips along.

She eyes her girl, since she hasn't been in the merc works business long. "Symkaria is a small nation surrounded by potential hostiles. Particularly Serbia-Montenegro and Latveria. Their only consistent political and trade ally is Wakanda, and the Wakandans have a xenophobic foreign policy and limit their exports, so help can't be counted on. They have U.N. recognition, but their willingness to trade with Latveria and the fact they're still ruled by a hereditary monarchy has strained the reach of their representatives. They deal with the difficulties mostly by using excellent technology... for the region. The monarchy's personal unit is the Wild Pack... which got its big push post World War II as Nazi hunters. The current head is Sable, who has a past of hiring superhuman mercs to make up for lack of numbers. She pays top dollar and supplies gear and ammo, but you need a recommendation from someone high up to get in."

Yes, she continues to skip along as she gives the book report without a hitch.

Melissa eyebrows rose at Kelly's encyclopedic information. The gesture was a mixture of heightened respect at who Bea was working with and a bit of shock at Kelly's knowledge of the subject. She knows her girlfriend isn't stupid by any stretch, but it brings back to mind certain questions that Melissa still hasn't asked.

"Well, we're not hurting for work but it sure wouldn't hurt to have some other contacts to call on for future reference." Melissa says.

"Bea? How is SSI's info-net? If I wanted to know how to find a particular criminal, do you think they could?" she asks.

"I work more with the Wildpack."

Beatrice notes as Kelly skips over every sidewalk crack, every loose rock, every bit of uneven ground.

"Depends on the type of criminal. All our information is good, but anything related to war criminals or the remotely Nazi-esque is better than the rest.... you've got a luck trick." Beatrice's voice goes a little soft at the realization.

Kelly does a hand-stand, then shifts to walking on her hands, backwards so she can face the slowpokes. C'mon, seriously, there's sugar and coffee waiting.

"I get lucky all the time, yep. I just don't usually talk about it... I'm naturally a shy and delicate flower, you see. Execute any Nazis lately?"

"Well, I'm not really interested in Nazis, but I'll keep it in mind for future reference." Melissa says.

"Ok, so maybe a little. But, its really good coffee. And you know, baby, we could probably use some time out of town. If Sable is hiring, its good money, useful contacts. That, and the Wild Pack, by rep, anyway, has a certain amount of 'I scratch their back, they'll help track down problem gangsters' mentality."

"Not a very good supply left these days, so yeah, SSI gets better and better at tracking down non-Nazis, though war crimes are still the speciality... I ... need to know your last name. Mine's Dayspring." She's looking a bit disconcerted.
