When Out On the Lawn There Arose Such a Clatter
Christmas. Yule. Saturnalia. Dies Natalis Solis Invicti. Many cultures have celebrated and still celebrate a winter festival. There have been many names for it over the millennia. No matter the name it is a time to come together and celebrate with feasts and gifts with friends and loved ones.

Each culture has a legendary figure who would deliver gifts to children during this time. In Russia and some Slavic cultures he is known as Ded Moroz, Grandfather Frost, and comes not on Christmas but on New Year’s along with his granddaughter Snegurochka, or ‘”Snow Maiden”. In the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe he is known as Father Christmas. In the Netherlands and Belgium he is known as Saint Nicholas or “Sinterklaas” and in France he is known as Père Noël. In the United States we know him as Santa Claus.

No matter the name or who is delivering gifts, it is the season of peace, joy and togetherness. It is the season for thinking about loved ones, friends and those less fortunate. It is a time to witness the goodness and generosity the human race is capable of. It is a time for peace on Earth and goodwill toward man

The Avengers' Mansion was decorated and festive. Inside the Avengers celebrated Christmas Day. Outside there was a flash of light and six time and dimensionally displaced Avengers showed up.

"Its alright, Liz. These are time and dimension travelers - Avengers from 20 years in the past. They haven't had a lot of chance to tell their story, but we've guessed, so far, they have something to do with Kang."

Hearing Kang's name got Svalin's mind back to where it should be at the moment.

"Aye. We hath been tasked to find Kang and stop him. We hath tracked him through seven different settings. We hath yet to face him directly."

"Sorry I'm late everyone," Suzie said as she ran into the room. "I was working on something in the lab when I..."

Her voice trailed off. Was that her Uncle Charlie? And Solver's Moms?

She raised an eyebrow. "Is there...something going on that I should know about here?"

"Displaced Avengers from a couple decades ago," Miranda reiterates again. "They've got Kang issues, too, so unless you've figured out the allergy thing -- I swear, we're getting closer to sorting it out -- let's get down to business." She looked to the visitors. "My cousin, Suzie Rogers."

Liz put her bag down, took her finger off the trigger and settled in to listen. She looked from one to the other and then back to the guy who looked like her dad.

Eli had a kid. Ryan had a kid. Anya and Steve had a kid. Apparently, Svalin and Vernique had a kid.

"Let me guess," he said to AJ and Suzie, "You're...James' kids?"

The only thing that would make this more bizarre was if he had a kid with Sammy, or something equally as weird.

“OK,” Ryan said, “So what exactly is going on here”. He was totally right major brain breakage here. It was so weird in a glance he could that kid was definitely his. The eyes gave that away right away the same shade of real grey as his. He kind of wanted to ask who his mother was but at the same time he really didn’t. Somehow it seemed like a bad idea to know too much.

"The simple 'what's going on', is this - a few weeks ago, Kang showed up. We've fought him before, and it wasn't a problem. Except this time was different. He showed up with a mind controlled Robert Reynolds - who, in this world, died a long time ago. Kang brought out the Void as his personal lapdog, and started building himself a fortress centered around the Sentry's Watchtower.

Now, even that wouldn't normally be a problem. I beat the Void the first couple times Kang sent him out - but he always runs back to that fortress, which is where the problem comes in. Every time I get near the place, I lose my powers, and start to get sick... a unique experience for me. I can't get near the place. Kang has weapons using the same stuff, he's won hands down - and he's been collecting and reprogramming all of the robots - Ultron, Awesome Andy, the Kree Sentry, the Sentinels, you name it. Even with Momone, some of the Eternals, and all of the resources of this team - the other Avengers haven't been able to beat the combination of Kang, his robotic army, and the Void. He's taking his time, waiting for something - it might be you guys, but he's been slowly expanding, and we're stuck just trying to counter him when we can."

Vernique listened with concern, and yes, still plenty of shock. Eventually, she nudged Svalin's arm to make sure she was processing. "Remember Kang's Laws of Time: the future you experience through time travel is never exactly what you get," She whispers. "Just treat it like any other alternate reality, hon, and stop gaping."

Eli is troubled by Kang's presence here, as well as the idea of having a daughter. He tries to stay on track with the current discussion.

He looks to Solver.

"Perhaps it is time for a bit of divide and conquer, then? You say that you have stood against this Void successfully in the past. If we remove the tower that weakens you from the equation, you can defeat him again?" Eli asks.

"On even standing, yes, I can defeat the Void. The problem is not the Sentry's Watchtower - its Kang. He has some sort of power source or material - we think its tied to the green rock he's decorated his fortress with and that he powers several of his weapons with. Miranda has been studying it, but we haven't yet determined what it is, where its from, or why it has the effect on me it does. Whatever it is though, Kang has a lot of it. We do also know that its faintly radioactive - but it doesn't have any short term detrimental effects on anyone else. Just me - but those effects are immediate and severe."

Cian looked over at the younger versions of his dad and the others most of whom seemed to be in a state of shock. “I think it might be smart to give them the night to get used to everything before we do the attack,” he said, “Besides I don’t think Kang would know you guys are here yet.”

"As far as I can tell so far, the green stuff is impossible. Some of the data I've managed to gather all this time match the crystalline structures within certain meteorites, some seem more indicative of an aromatic polyamide, and you just can't have something that's both at once. I've never heard of anything, terrestrial or extra-terrestrial, that's managed that. And it's not magic. Not even remotely magic. I've checked and checked again. That would have made some kind of sense, since Solver's got a bit of a magic sensitivity, though normally nothing as bad as this."

Svalin's brow furled in thought. She could put her issue about not being worthy to lift Mjolnir and the fact that she had a son on the back burner. Kang was too big of a /thing/ to think about other things.

"Most unusual. Though it doth take something verily unusual to affect Asgardians. Ne'er the less, we art here to help. We must make a plan."

Yes, thinking about business was better than thinking about other things.

"Yeah, I think Aunt Vernique would have kittens if we did a less-than-tailored lead suit for Solver." Veronica says.

Then she looks to Younger Aunt Vernique.

"No offense or anything." she smiles sheepishly.

"I have a suggestion," AJ said. "How about we let our guests rest and get cleaned up a bit? They look a little beat up and look like they could use some rest. While they are resting they can go over the intel we have."

AJ smiled.

"And then they can share Christmas dinner with us."

"I apologize to our guests - Momtwo chides me about focusing too much on business, still. They're right. Please, make yourselves at home. There's plenty of food, Maeve is an excellent cook. We'll have the staff prepare you rooms. Get some rest, join us for the holidays. I'll let you know if there's any undue movement from the direction of Kang's fortress, if Miranda's spybots don't beat me to it."

"There ist sure to be a blow drier in thy quarters," Svalin said. Her brain was mostly back to working properly. She had a million questions, but they could wait. Kang had to be dealt with first. Well after they found Vernique a blow drier.

"Under the circumstances, I doubt your local alternate will mind you raiding your supplies. Your counterpart's quarters are upstairs, turn right, then third door on the left. You should find a blow drier there. Momone - if you're at all like yourself here, then you're going to want to know more about our tactical situation before you can settle down for Midwinter's dinner. I'll have mead brought to the situation room and we can talk before we rejoin the others, if you'd prefer that to waiting around. I can try and answer some of your questions meanwhile."
