When Out On the Lawn There Arose Such a Clatter
Christmas. Yule. Saturnalia. Dies Natalis Solis Invicti. Many cultures have celebrated and still celebrate a winter festival. There have been many names for it over the millennia. No matter the name it is a time to come together and celebrate with feasts and gifts with friends and loved ones.

Each culture has a legendary figure who would deliver gifts to children during this time. In Russia and some Slavic cultures he is known as Ded Moroz, Grandfather Frost, and comes not on Christmas but on New Year’s along with his granddaughter Snegurochka, or ‘”Snow Maiden”. In the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe he is known as Father Christmas. In the Netherlands and Belgium he is known as Saint Nicholas or “Sinterklaas” and in France he is known as Père Noël. In the United States we know him as Santa Claus.

No matter the name or who is delivering gifts, it is the season of peace, joy and togetherness. It is the season for thinking about loved ones, friends and those less fortunate. It is a time to witness the goodness and generosity the human race is capable of. It is a time for peace on Earth and goodwill toward man

The Avengers' Mansion was decorated and festive. Inside the Avengers celebrated Christmas Day. Outside there was a flash of light and six time and dimensionally displaced Avengers showed up.

"The idea that I have such a bright, beautiful and courageous daughter in the future is both exciting and scary to me. Exciting in that I feel that I have done something right and come to terms with many things in my life that I did not believe I could...and scary in the fact that I would not have chosen this life for you if it were up to me." Eli says.

"But it is not up to me, which is the hardest thing a parent can accept. The information I have gathered about myself here is...startling to say the least. There are many things that your father has done that I do not believe I would ever do, but I do not know the whole of what has transpired to bring him to where he is.

The one thing that I do know of him, because I know it of me, is that he loves you more than his immortality and that he would gladly exchange it to spare you any pain. But, after meeting his...our father today, I think I know why he allows you so much time without him, and I would be hard-pressed not to choose the same thing." Eli says, stepping forward to look down at Veronica.

"We both pray that you will never feel that you were denied the opportunity to design your life. You have become a heroine in your own right, and you have friends that you adore...and someone you care deeply for. All of these things, I have always wanted for a child of mine.

So please, Little Goddess...never believe for one moment that your fathers do not love you, for nothing is further from the truth. If he does not say it often enough, I will make up for that with the time I have here.

You are my daughter and you, more than my heritage, are my greatest claim to immortality." Eli says, pulling her gently into a hug.

Ronnie listens as Dad speaks. At first, she can barely believe that this her dad might ever have been this open and honest in his life. He was usually so...calculating and distant. Yes, he could be charming, funny and really nice, but it often seemed like one of the many coats he designed. He slipped it on and off to cover up the man he truly was.

Someone who was a lot more like Druig of Nightmares than he cared to admit.

Still, it's beyond nice to hear him say these things to her. The things she'd always wanted and needed to hear from him. She wished her dad was saying this, instead of a younger time/dimension-displaced version of him, but it was worth it to her to let that go.

And then he called her Little Goddess, like he always does and Ronnie puddles. She throws her arms around him in a hug that would crack ribs on anyone else.

"Thank you, Daddy." she says between tears of joy. "I needed to hear that."

	Eli smiles and hugs Ronnie until she's ready to let go. Meanwhile, he looks over at Bobby. "It is not my custom to give speeches or talks about how a woman should be treated, but I must also speak to my cousin Kalypso's boyfriend when I return, so I shall practice on you, Robert." 	Veronica knows that tone. Time to hit the Instant Clarification Button. "Daddy, he means his cars. He's got several. The girls all live in the garage. Bobby's even helped me with my boy.
