Goodwill Ambassador
Angelo had done some preparation for this. He knew that he and his sister had divergent views on the group occupying his thoughts, but he was confident they could approach the situation like rational adults. Of course, he wasn't above cheating, just a little bit. The jug of homemade cider he'd buried in the neighborhood garden had finally been dug up after fermenting long enough, and some was currently on the stove with butter and cooking brandy milling in it. He'd also just finished dusting some krapfen with powdered sugar as he approached his sister, who was going over his latest home-school exam.

"Gio?" He set down a plate of Italian pastry and cider in front of her. "There was something I wanted to confer with you about."

"--although our country's capacity to offer asylum is still limited by political realities at this time," Gio finishes, shooting Angelo a 'you do not have the power to offer asylum' glance. "We are making continuing efforts to fix those difficulties, though."

Alex's eyes narrowed at the mention of a misunderstanding. Mel hadn't said anything except that they would not want to talk to her, which they did. So Alex was confused. He would definitely talk to her after this.

"Your offer is generous," he said, "and we appreciate it." Even though the kid had no real authority to make it. Alex could play nice.

Angelo shoots her a look back, stating that he 'wasn't talking about anything so formal, but just that they should feel welcome after resolving the situation again'.

It was a very distinctive glance.

Unless anyone brings up more significant topics, he'll occupy himself with polite small-talk and handing out items from the basket, an assortment of baked goods he made himself, and farmer's market dairy and produce he picked up.

Everyone had been gone into that room for a little while. Mel was starting to get nervous, even though she knew that was silly.

Finally, she wheeled herself into the room. "Just... making sure everything's okay. Mel Hall. Nice to meet you. Sorry, I'm not that great at getting around right now."

Alex jumped out of his chair and was by Mel's side in a second. He didn't try to push the wheelchair, but he was there if she needed anything.

Mason looked around nervously. Was it just him, or had the tension level in the room just spiked?

Angelo stands up straight, putting on his best expression of concern for politeness, then smiling and walking over with the covered plate.

"Of course, Miss Hall. I'm sorry if it was any trouble for you to join us."

Which is about as close as he'll come right now to apologizing profusely for causing the damsel in physical distress to have to exert herself. He's learning.

Mel smiled at Alex, then looked at the strangely enthusiastic boy and his silent sister -- now that was what she expected from a daughter of Exodus and Unuscione. Just standing there quietly making decisions about her without even consulting her. "What is it?" she asks before touching the tray.

Angelo, with perhaps a little bit of flourish, removes the cloth, revealing a freshly made plate of madeleines.

"I made them myself." He smiles.

Mel looks at them. "Nice. You used a metal pan and not silicone. Good call."
She doesn't have any.

Angelo waits, long enough to blink twice, before putting the tray aside.

He clears his throat. "I was just telling your comrades that we wanted to express that there is no ill-will over the unfortunate misunderstanding with our parents in the past. Also that I think it's wonderful the work your group has done with portraying a positive example for mutants."

Alex put a hand on her shoulder, but didn't say anything. He didn't know what was going on, but he trusted his girlfriend.

Angelo wavers slightly, but maintains his composure.

"Yes well... I thought it was important to be able to apologize and move on."

He's totally willing to accept one.

"Well...Angelo. You're clearly a pretty good baker, so thank you for bringing things. And it's very nice to know that if I fail to explain myself properly, you won't scream for your sister to kill me. But then, that's not as applicable a situation, because your mother and my dad were friends once, and you and I never have been."

Angelo outright sneers as he nods his agreement. "And an imbecile besides."

Good-will visit or not, he can't help but mutter under his breath to the side. "Figlio di puttana.."

"Okay," Mel says, still drawing herself up in her wheelchair without a trace of shyness. "We can agree on that, then. And I hope that while we probably can't agree that going to the X-men for help was the best way to handle Cortez, we can still agree that it was a good sight better than just bringing him his coffee while he kept killing and torturing and conspiring?" Don't get this one wrong, Angelo. Her little eyes are intense.

"What's going on?"

"Before any of us were born," Giovanna explains calmly. "Our mother found Simon Hall hiding in a church in Switzerland, spent a week talking to him from the other side of the door, and recruited him into the Acolytes. He was very powerful, but to be frank, he was essentially there to get the tea, not participating in any action. Apparently, Hall somehow managed to figure out before anyone else what scum Cortez was, but all mother saw was him bringing the X-Men right inside their headquarters with his powers. Years later, when Father had killed Cortez and was leading the Acolytes, that was all he knew, too. They ran into Hall; Mother identified him and... got a little carried away urging Father to action. He gave Hall time to explain himself, but Hall said nothing. He was then prepared to deal with him as a traitor before someone pointed out that Magneto would probably not approve."
