Sparring Session
Svalin had seen to Tryggvi and Snowflake as she always did in the mornings around sunrise. She put the two horses out to graze after feeding them. Once she was done she grabbed her Bat'let and went outside on the lawn to practice before the sun got too hot.

The blade felt as comfortable in her hands as Vigfrior did. Svalin could use it with as much proficiency and ease as she did the weapons she grew up with. The air whooshed as the blade moved through the air.

"Svalin...I doth not believe this ist wise. If I were not careful, thee or thine child couldst be injured. If that occurred, I wouldst be remiss in mine duty to protect thee." Sigurdur says, discomfort evident in his tone.

If she were not with child, Sigurdur would jump at the chance. However, he doesn't want to anger Lady Vernique or any of her siblings by committing even the slightest mishap.

"Midgard has its beauties, though...I think many of them art borrowed from Asgard." he says to her.

"I trust thee, Sigurdur. Thou hath always been careful when needed. It ist only light sparring. I canst show thee how to wield the Bat'leth."

Her cheeks reddened more and felt like they were on fire. In the past she would have missed the flattery, but since Jon she had become more aware of things. The thought of Jon caused her heart to ache a bit, but it was a dull ache and not the sharp ache it had been. He would always have a place in her heart, but she promised she would move on with her life.

"I wouldst not have thought thee to have such a honeyed tongue."

"It ist not nearly as honeyed as I wouldst like; after all, I art the son of Hogun the Grim." he chuckles. "Were it so, I wouldst convince thee to relax and not spar. In this instance, I shalt settle for coaxing a smile from you, Svalin.

I remember that it wast easier when we wert younger." Sigurdur says.

"I wilt spar with thee on one condition; if, for any reason, thou grows tired or feels /any/ pain, tell me immediately and we /stop/, then and there.

Dost we hath an accord?" Sigurdur asks.

Svalin did smile for him.

"It mayhap be not as honeyed as some, it ist honest. I doth prefer an honest tongue to a honeyed one."

His words brought back memories of childhood. She would never say she had an unpleasant childhood. She had grown up surrounded by her siblings and good friends like Sigurdur.

"Aye, it wast easier to smile back then. We knew less of the world and carried less on our shoulders."

She nodded once.

"Aye. It ist agreed."

"That ist good," she said. Was that a bit of disappointment she felt. For a second she thought it could be because of her, but it died just as quickly. It was a foolish idea. Sigurdur was a lifelong friend and had he been interested in her he would have said something before now.

"Vernique wouldst be able to tell thee more about it, but we art not required to stay where we art. We canst do some traveling if thou wouldst like."

Sigurdur considers seeing Svalin again one of the best reasons to be on Midgard, but he cannot tell her that. His job is to guard her and her unborn son, not to let personal feelings distract him. He'd sworn an oath to the All-Father; he could not fail.

"I wouldst like it if we could walk along the beach. Thou seemed happy there, and I would see thy smile again." Sigurdur says.

	"Thou canst only be distracted if thou allows for it." he grins. Sigurdur allows himself to be positioned and taught how to hold the weapon, noting the feel of Svalin's hands upon his. The closeness didn't go unnoticed on Svalin's part nor did the feel of her hand on his. Asgardian senses were far superior to a humans, but the pregnancy made her sense of smell even sharper. She could smell /him/ quite clearly and the smell of worn leather and sweat.

"Aye. It ist so unlike any Asgardian weapon. A few months of much practice to get proficient. I art no master yet."

Keeping her hand on top of his she moved it slowly. "Move slowly to start. Once thou gets used to the feel, it wilt become as if a part of thine arm."

She stepped back. A bit reluctantly though.

Sigurdur does as instructed, testing the weight of the weapon and then growing used to it as he moved. He would be the envy of the rest of the Guard when he returned to Asgard wielding one of these.

Father might even smile to see it. He would tell Arnfrior, Douglas, Hjordis and Skari of the Bat'leth, if they did not already know.

Oddly, the idea of returning to Asgard did not sit right with him just then, though he did not know why.

Sigurdur continues the movements, but speaks to Svalin.

"Wilt thou show me how one would defend against an oncoming blade? Gently, of course." he clarifies.

"Aye," she said and moved to stand behind him. She put a hand on each of his, though to do so she had to get really close since her expanding middle got in the way.

"To block an o'erhand blow and a slash," she said and brought the bat'leth horizontal and put his other hand on it and then raised it up. Then she brought it down diagonally where it would stop a strike coming in from the right. "A thrust," she said as she turned the bat'leth and his hands in a sweeping motion.

	Sigurdur follows the moves that Svalin shows him slowly, then repeats them again and once more after that. "This weapon ist more and more comfortable with every movement." he says, turning for a moment to face her, keeping the blade pointing at the ground. He looks at her and smiles. 	Svalin drew her sword and went back into a fighting stance. She could feel that she was a bit off balance and she didn't like it. Thankfully this was only light sparring. "I art ready." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Sigurdur watches Svalin's form carefully, noting that she is not wholly on-balance, but also considering that a warrior of her caliber has learned to account for this. 	Svalin easily brought her sword around to block the thrust. Normally she would have put some strength behind her sword to force the bat'leth down and put an elbow into his face, but now she just took a step back and waited for his next move. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Sigurdur nods as she blocks him, noting that she is still quick, despite her pregnancy. He would need to be careful of that. He tries another attack, a high slash that she would also be able to deflect with ease. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Svalin did deflect it, but not with her sword. She now held a staff. The strike was blocked and she used the lower end of the staff to swipe at his legs. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
